The Delight of the Lord
The Delight of the Lord
“His pleasures is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of a man ; The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.”
Psalm 147:10-11
To whom the Lord does take pleasure ?
His pleasure is not in the mighty and strong, not in the great and powerful. But he delights in those who fear Him, whose walk is blameless before Him, whose hope is in His faithfulness. Those who are completely dependent upon the Lord will live in righteousness and holiness. Those who are living a life alienated from God are usually living apart from the center of His will. Great men of God who has greatly pleased God are those who became so dependent upon God like King David, Moses, Abraham, Elijah, Paul and many others.
Dependence and reliance upon God is inseparable from a life marked by great fear of the Lord. A man who is truly dependent upon the Lord fears Him greatly. A life which is independent of the Lord is a a life marked by wickedness, ungodliness and immorality.
Usually a mighty man, who is a proud man is not dependent upon the Lord. His life is marked by lawlessness. Great conquerors, men of history like Alexander the Great, Octavian, Julius Ceasar, were mighty men who do not honor the God of Israel. They live lives alienated from the true God and they lived ungodly lives. Though they may be considered mighty and great men by the world, yet in the eyes of God they have lived in vain, for they have lived lives apart from the will of God.
A life lived in constant fear of the Lord and dependence upon Him is greatly pleasing to God. King David greatly pleased God because he is one man who is completely humble and dependent upon the Lord. Every battle he fought, he depended upon the Lord for victory. In Israel, there is no such king as humble as King David who is completely dependent upon the Lord.
Daniel, the prophet, is truly a great man of God who fear God greatly. He will rather be thrown into the lion’s den than disobey God. Joseph, son of Jacob is one man of God who truly fear God. He never gave in to Potiphar’s wife seduction. He rather choose to be in jail rather than sin against God. Elijah is a true man of God who is also a man of prayer. Whatever he pronounced will come to pass. He lived a life of complete dependence upon the Lord. Moses is indeed is a great man of God who refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as a greater value than the treasures of Egypt.
Fear and dependence upon the Lord has been evident in the life of Mr. Wilde King after he got saved. Mr. Wilde King is a rich businessman, owner of a hotel chain in Metro Manila. He used to own the motel chain “Anito”, favorite lodge of shortime lovers and fornicators. When he got born again and was powerfully convicted, he changed the concept of “Anito Motels” into a new concept. He converted it into a new lodge for overseas Filipino workers and couples who lodge in, must show their marriage certificate before they are accepted to lodge in into the hotel. With this new concept, God bless Mr. Wilde King even more.
Fearing the Lord and depending upon Him completely surely brings great delight to God. There will be no more blessed life than a life of utter dependence upon God. Life of compromises will lead us to our downfall.
