Jet Age Pastors

An appalling and horrible thing is committed in the land: There is a new world order coming out of the church, a group of gospel preachers are creating a class of their own. Membership is not by the number of souls you win, and the identity is not by anointing. I thought Age should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom. I could no longer hold my silence, especially when I found out that great men are not always wise and that the voice of the majority is no proof of justice.

Whenever we place material necessity over and above human necessity, the outcome is always foul and chaotic. Whenever the physical reigns over the spiritual, then there is a cloud without water. Men love to rule, though God called us to serve. The servant – leadership style of Jesus Christ is being relegated by the same set of people entrusted with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Some of our today’s messengers of the gospel live as if they are bigger than the whole message. It is a pity; the Church of our Lord Jesus Christ is being trapped in the hands of this new world order - the Pastors with jets!

It is hard to free fools from the chains they adore. When it comes to religion, people are the same regardless of their country or nation. If you believe God, you are free; if you do not trust Him, you are a slave of anyone cleverer than you. Those that will not take time to read their Bible will have to believe the interpretation of these smart guys. Let it be known to us all that no Bible School can replace or play the role of your Quiet Time with God. The more people are far from God, the more opportunity they give to these pastors who adore the lifestyle of a Hollywood star.

There is another evil under the sun which Solomon did not see in his days; it is the false abundance of some pastors in the midst of scarcity of their members. Pastors with jets are presently intimidating the people of God; forgetting that the life of a man is not in his possessions. Like a wild fire the vogue of buying jets is fast spreading among the leadership of the Church. Their supposed reason is for the ease of evangelism. However, from facts and figures, we have seen that the remote places of the world are being evangelized quietly by unknown Christians that see the need to evangelize such places. On the other hand, these luxuries - filled pastors and Bishops only fly their jets to cities where their kingdoms are being set up; for show and entertainment sakes.

In my country Nigeria, where about 56 millions adults have no bank account not to talk of savings, with the statistics of about 80% of the167 million people living on the average of one dollar ($1:00) per day, the president of C.A.N (Christian Association of Nigeria), Pastor Ayo Oritshejafor says he is not ashamed to own a jet, after much controversies surrounding and about his new jet. Men of genius are admired, men of wealth are envied, men of power are feared; but only men of character are trusted. Fathers of faith are losing their respect because of their romance with mammon: The weaker their argument, the stronger their words. The sheep do no more trust the shepherds, and the Generals are losing their characters. There is a crack in the wall, things are falling apart, Zion is being invaded!

While economy is biting every nation hard, some messengers of the gospel are living a riotous lifestyle. The situation is not better in America, where it was reported that Kenneth Copeland, Creflo Dollar, and other of millionaires’ preachers do not only have jets, but are engaging the use of bodyguards in preaching the message of peace, contrary to Jesus who once asked Peter to put off his sword as a means of defense for Jesus. While the American Pastors are going for the latest jets, the Obama’s government is banning the use of bibles in American public schools. It is rather unfortunate that those Jesus trusted with His gospel are betraying Him like Judas, selling Him again for mere 30 pieces of silver!

The dragon in the flesh called the lust for jets among some pastors in the United States is rapidly spreading among Nigeria foremost preachers. The question we are asking is that before this craze for jets, were these people not preaching the gospel? Why a Pastor should bursts with excess in the midst of poverty of his/her members? Is it Jesus that identified with the poor and the needy that commanded these pastors to go get jets? Do they allow every member of their congregations whose money they used to acquire these jets to fly with them? Considering the cost price of a jet, are these shepherds mindful of heaven anymore not to talk of keeping their treasures in heaven as they taught us to do in most of their preaching?

Pastor Tunde Bakare of Latter Rain Assembly who called for a religious revolution was quite embittered about this negative development in the church of Nigeria. Surprisingly, the Secretary General of the Christian Association of Nigeria (C.A.N) was defending these Pastors with jets; saying that they have a lot of mileage to cover while traveling all over the world. In a nation where the youths are massively unemployed and religion has caged the elders, what other selfish and senseless statement can Nigerians get from their religious leaders than this? Corruption has finally canned C.A.N and like Samson of old, with her eyes gorged out, she may die with the country’s Philistines Dominated Party!

Greed is a monster that has no respect or regard for its victims; the more they feed it, the larger its appetite. These Pastors with jets were once using the best cars in town, cruising around with sleek of cars and nobody raised any objection. These days, jeep of any kind can no longer satisfy their appetite for vanity coming from their lust of the eyes. Plenty makes them poor. Plenty has robbed them of basic biblical truth. Hear what Paul says:

‘Perverse wrangling of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw yourself.’

– I Timothy 6:5

This verse of the bible that no Bishop or Pastor can remove can be better understood in the Message Bible. It reads thus:

‘Eventually there’s an epidemic of backstabbing, and truth is but a distant memory. They think religion is a way to make a fast buck.’ - I Timothy 6:5

According to Paul the Apostle, these pastors are destitute of the truth; they are no more in touch with the truth! He therefore advised us to withdraw from such leadership, whatever their title. The pastors with jets would be so difficult to convince simply because they are now destitute of the truth. The truth is no more with them, just like a madman that has lost his sanity. When a man is wrong and won’t admit it, he always gets angry. This is the very reason why some journalists/reporters have suffered some mishandling in the hands of bodyguards/protocols of these pastors.

Depending on our perspective, there is always another side to life; what the caterpillar calls the end, the butterfly calls life. What the Laodicea Pastors with jets call wealth, Jesus calls poor. Hear Him:

‘Because you say, I am rich, and increase with goods, and have need of nothing: and know not that you are wretched, and miserable, and poor and blind, and naked.’ – Revelation 3:17

When success turns a man’s head, he faces failure. Quite a number of these pastors had a very good and humble beginning, suffering and enduring many tings for Christ sake. No doubt, some of these men and women were truly called by God, but they could not handle success and comfort. These ones could no more bring their bodies to subjection like Apostle Paul did. To get what you want is riches, but to live without it is power. These pastors with jets are rich, but they are losing their power. They might end up like King Solomon who used God – giving wealth to acquired strange women that tuned his heart against God.

‘But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world and we can take nothing out of it.’ – I Timothy 6:6 - 7

When a man grows wiser, he talks less and he says more. A word is enough for the wise.

Preparing the Bride,

Someone must sound the warning. Hope those who hear take heed. Meanwhile, make your personal relationship with Christ your priority. Keep the faith!

A powerful and important statement plus warning put forth here. Easy to follow and awesome in content. I know of a few pastors who have jets and the media have taken a sour note of them. The pastors I follow don't have a jet and probably wouldn't buy one either. We must keep watch in these End Days and not be fooled. Thanks for this useful Hub, I found very interesting all the way through.

To say the least-it is unsurprising. Most pastors start as people centred, then metamorphose into pulpit-centred, property motivated and ultimately politically possessed. As you rightly pointed out, most of them had a call of God in their lives with humble beginnings ; however, the sensual and seductive nature of the world which appeals to the eyes, but presents with a clear and present danger is too good to be left to the world. They indulge at a very incremental progression-a little leaven leavens the whole lump. Before you could say Jack Robinson, the damage is almost done. David's poetic account of what happened to Saul at the battle in 2 Samuel is very instructive-Saul's shield came falling as if it was never anointed. That shield was anointed of God previously, but there was a need for that to be continued to be freshly anointed of God by the daily act of devotion and consecration of ones life to Him alone. Saul missed out on this and was a shadow of his previous self at the battle.

I believe that as Christians, once we loose sight of the old rugged cross, self-which should be under subjection of the Spirit-takes over and the consequences to say the least are dire.

Another nice one, Segun, keep it up.
