The Peace of Christ
The Peace of Christ
“I have told you these things that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have trouble. But take heart ! I have overcome the world.”
I heard a Pastor mentioned in his message last Sunday , the peace of God is much greater than anything this world could offer. It is much greater than any treasure the world could give.
I tried to meditate on these words he has spoken, it seem they are a revelation to me. Why having the peace of Christ is much greater than anything the world could give ?
You may have all the best things the world could offer such as a prestigious position in a top corporate world, a palatial house in a safe and highend subdivision, a fat bank account, yet without the peace of Christ ruling in your heart, your life will be miserable.
For without the peace of Christ in your heart , your life will be full of distresses. There are many sources of distresses in the world particularly in our time wherein we are living in perilous times.
Just recently, series of bombings happened in Moscow, Pakistan and Manila where scores have died. So many accidents, crimes, violence happening all over the world. There is always reason to ask if we are still safe nowadays even in our home ? Afflictions happen to anybody, old or young, rich or poor, educated or non-educated.
There are just so much afflictions in our time, it is becoming unbearable. These afflictions bring strife and distress to our minds. Only by having the “peace of Christ”
We will find comfort and refuge amidst these distresses.
Having the peace of Christ does not mean absence of affliction, but having an anchor to depend on in times of tribulation. It means gaining victory over afflictions by not being subdued by it. Having the peace of Christ in our hearts, we can maintain our joy in living amidst trials and afflictions. Yes we can still be joyful amidst pains and sufferings by having the peace of Christ in our herats. The presence of the peace of Christ in our hearts is a source of our comforr and strength . It gives us serenity amidst troubled life.
It is the peace of Christ that ruled Horatio Spafford's heart upon learning that his four daughters perished in a shipwreck accident. It is the peace of Christ in his heart that enabled him to bear the unfathomable reality of loosing his four precious daughters. After the great tragedy in his life, he was able to compose one of the most beloved hymns of all time "It is Well With My Soul." Horatio Spafford had emerged victorious out of the trials because the peace of Christ was reigning in his heart.
How can we have the peace of Christ ?
We can have the “peace of Christ” by surrendering completely to the Lordship of Christ in our life. We should forsake all sins and make Christ the Lord of every aspect of our life. He should be the Lord of our family life, relationships, work and career, ministry, leisure time and every area of our life. If Christ is not a hundred percent Lord of our life, He is not Lord of our life at all.
We have to live according to God’s ways and will and rid our lives from all forms of sins. Only by yielding completely to the Lordship of Christ , His peace will completely reside in our hearts. We should rid our lives from any single compromise in order to receive the “peace of Christ.”
Only by having the “peace of Christ” ruling our hearts we can be completely victorious. We can be victorious only if we are completely yielded to the Lordship of Christ. To be an overcomer we must yield our lives to the true overcomer, The Lord JesusChrist, He has overcome the whole world.
