The Prayer of Intercession

Could it Get Any Worse Than This?

It has been difficult for you at work lately. Your employer seems to have an obvious animosity toward you and everything you do finds its way into the open critique category. You try and look at things objectively, but there is just a little nagging feeling that your being unjustly treated. You are beginning to wonder if this is the right job for you.

You get a phone call from the police department and little Joey has been picked up for drug possession. He had been doing better, or so you hoped, but now with this set-back, it looks darker than ever.

Saturday evening you walk in the den and you see porn openly sprawled on the computer screen. Your husband had been sitting there for hours and had just gotten up to go to the bathroom seconds before you walked in.

You had an awful dream last night which was very disturbing. In it you saw your sister in a horrible car accident. She was killed. It seemed so real that you sat straight up and rushed to call her. When she answered, you told her about it. She tried to assure you that it was only a dream... but, you had a strong sense that something just wasn't right.

Praying for Others Gives Permission for Divine Intervention

What Should You Do? What Can You Do?

You know you cannot make someone like you, live your childs life for them, make better decisions for your mate or stop an event that may or may not occur. It just isn't humanily possible.

All of this trauma brings you to a place of decision. What should you do? What can you do? You are at the end of your rope. Lawful retalliation and wishful thinking have left you still feeling empty. What else is there to do?

You can take it to God in prayer. You should intercede.

Intercession is praying for others. It literally means to stand in the gap. What gap you say? The gap that exists between the problems of mankind and the victory of God's Word.

We must always remember that this world is under Satan's rule and we have to pray in order to get God involved. God desperately wants to intervene in our situations, but if He is not asked, He is bound by His Word to stay out.

When negative situations arise in the lives of others, we are to go to God on behalf of those others. We are take hold together with God for their freedom and their victory. We are to fight the devil and remind him that we have authority over his works; we are to command him to stop his activities in the lives of those we are praying for.

We have Authority!

God will not go against a persons will. We have been made free to choose what we will and to act as we desire. Therefore there is no use in us praying for God to stop anybody from anything. But, there is a use in our stopping the influence of evil in our loved ones lives.

We cannot go against the will of another, but we can sure come against the force of influence that is helping Joey make a foolish decision. We can bind the powers in the air, the forces of darkness that mean us only evil.

We can take authority over them long enough for our loved ones to make an intelligent decision and hopefully choose the better or the best decision for their lives.

When Jesus rose from the dead He had all power in His hands and He gave that power to those who receive Him as their personal Lord and Savior.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.Matt 28:18

He also gave us authority over all of the power of the devil, our only true enemy

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all
the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19

Do's & Don'ts

  1. Do Not look for scripture to pray retalliation on people
  2. Do look for scripture that will help them be set free from the hate and fear that is driving them.
  3. Do Not pray "against" the person or people.
  4. Do pray that their eyes be opened to truth.
  5. Do Not mistreat the person or bombard them with your words.
  6. Do pray that their hearts and minds be open to the Holy Spirit and the wisdom of His Words.
  7. Do Not try and get a gang of friends to agree with you and your feelings.
  8. Do get in the Word of God and find out what His will for you is in this situation.
  9. Do Not give up, no matter how it looks. Trust me, Satan will make it look really bad once you start interceding because he knows that intercession is love and, he cannot successfully fight against love.
  10. Do trust God and cast all of your care on Him during this trying time.

Learn Who You Are in Christ

Study the Word of God and find out just who you are. You are somebody to be reckoned with! Jesus gave us authority and power over all the power of the enemy.

"Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you." Luke 10:19

We need not fear, we need just pray. Pray that whatever is going on in your employer's life is fixed. Pray that he or she have peace.

Pray that little Joey would turn away from the foolishness of drug use and come out of rebellion.

Pray that your husband be delivered from the addition to porn. Rebuke the lust and perversion that draws him to porn.

Pray for your sister. Speak God's protection over her life. Pray for all accident victims.

Forget about yourself and pray....this is intercession.

Intercessory Prayer Knows No Bounds

The Greatest Intercessor

Jesus is the greatest intercessor of all. He went to the cross, suffered, died and was buried for us. This was not His just punishment, but ours. Jesus was not guilty, we were, but, He took our place. Rightfully, It should have been us on the cross. God the Father loved us so much that He sent Jesus in our place and Jesus loved the Father so much that He came.

He was our intercessor on earth. Now He serves as our intercessor in Heaven.

"Who [is] he that condemneth? [It is] Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us."Romans 8:34

"For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, [which are] the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:"Hebrews 9:24

Not So Convenient

The Bible says that God looks for those who will stand in the gap. He asks us to pray for others because His love is desperately trying to help mankind. There is always someone who needs prayer and they don't always need it at the same time.

If God can trust you to pray, He may wake you in the middle of the night. He may pull you away from your friends at a party, He may have you pull over on the side of the road... so you can pray.

So, if you wake in the middle of the night don't spend time wondering why, just pray. When you are playing computer games or writing your blog and the feeling comes to you that something is "not right", just pray. When you walk in a situation that is uncomfortable, just pray.

Pray for your enemies, pray for God's wisdom concerning controversial situations, pray for those you don't understand, pray for those who don't understand you and pray for all mankind.

Example of Corporate Intercession
