Anticipating the Journey...
Anticipating the Journey...

I used to be afraid to read the book of Revelation!

Revelation was one of the books of the Bible, allot of people never read...it was scary! Talking about the world, as we know it ending, and the course of events to happen.

The other day, I was flipping through the Bible, I stumbled upon some verses highlighted. I read it, then looked to see what book of the Bible I was in? To my surprise, it was Revelation! I thought wow! I didn't know that's where this verse is? Probably why I don't recall reading it much? The scripture was Revelation 20:12-15, you might look it up?

I was reminded of a challenge I received many years ago. A friend of mine, called me up, and said do you want to receive a blessing? I was hesitant...yes, I guess so? He said, I heard on the radio that if you want to receive a blessing...to read the whole book of Revelation in one sitting, out loud...and you would receive your blessing. He went on to tell me he did this, and he felt so blessed, he wouldn't tell me how he was blessed? He just challenged me to try it and see what happens.

Did you know that in verse 3 of the first chapter of Revelation, it says..."Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand." At that time in my life, I did not know these words were written in the Bible...at the book of Revelation?

So I took the challenge, I must say, I was a little scared, because like I said before, I always stayed away from reading this book of the Bible. I waited till the end of the night, just before bed. I knelt on my knees beside my bed, opened my Bible and began to read out loud. There were no interruptions, and I read the whole book, in one period of time. It took me 2 hours, but I finished it.

I was amazed at how blessed my soul felt, before I had even finished reading this book. There were times, where I was tempted to stop, but I made a promise to myself and to God, that I would do this, so I stuck to it. I truly felt closer to God, through this experience. Afterward I did feel so blessed, I had tears of joy overflowing:)

There was another time in my life where my husband and I were studying along with some cassette tapes the books of Daniel and Revelation. As many of you know these 2 books are the ones, in conjunction with each other, that help in understanding the last days. Again, I felt closer to God, and closer to my husband:) We were so excited about the spiritual growth we were experiencing.

Then one night, we went to dinner at a friends home...so we thought at the time. We walked in...and the lady said to me, wow, what are you guys doing, your faces are glowing. You look so happy? I shared with her how we are studying the book of Revelation and Daniel. Her comment was..."Oh, we don't read Revelation, we don't need to know what happens in that book." I'm ashamed to say, that my heart just dropped, and my smile became one of sadness. For some reason we allowed her to steal our joy, and for some unknown reason, we seemed to stop our studies at that time.

Just recently I heard a preacher speaking on the Christian Radio...about how legalism, robs a person of their joy in the Lord! I thought of this couple, they were very legalistic at the time, and they did rob us of our joy. We have to be careful, even amongst those who we feel believe the same as us. Because our joy is in the Lord!

So I want to challenge you, to focus on God, and to receive a blessing from above! Set aside some uninterrupted quiet time for yourself to read aloud the book of Revelation, in one sitting:) (It is time again, for my husband and I to do the same:)

This is The Revelation Challenge :) May you walk in peace through His word and Be Blessed! ♥

What a great hub challenge--a spiritual one! I saw your hub title and just had to stop by, as I've been studying Revelation for several months now. It *is* a blessing to see how God will deal the final blow to Satan and the wicked and we will see God's face and dwell in visual presence with him forever. WOW! :)

The Word of God is always life giving. I was never fond of the book of revelation for the most part because I didn't understand it and was weary of listening to all the conflicting interpretations of it. But when I just read it because it was God's Word and His truth it truly was a blessing and found, like you, things that I didn't realize were there.

I stand with you on this one. It is a real challenge, I have an mp3 of this book and study / listen all the time, and shuffle around what I see written, fitting in pieces that continue to be explained elsewhere in the book( Revelations)

Heart, I can't say I've read the book straight through at one sitting, but I recently taught a series on Revelation at our church. To prepare, then present, I got a double blessing. Thanks for sharing.

Heart4theword: I've read the Bible twice cover to cover, BUT, by the time I got to Revelation, I was no longer reading and comprehending, merely reading to finish.

I accept this challenge of yours. I will read Revelation and read it to understand.

Brother Dave.

I would except the challenge, but with so many little ones underfoot, I am excited when I get 15 minutes to read. :-) As we speak, I am nursing a baby and talking to my preschooler. This is actually easy because the toddler is taking a nap.

On the other hand, I love reading...especially the Bible and I have read the last chaper in the book. Guess what? Hate to spoil it for those who haven't read it, but we WIN!!!!!!

heart4theword, Wowzer, What a great hub. It is truth. I was told the same thing a few months ago. I started reading out loud and did not finish. I am so grateful I decided to come for a read today. There is no mistake. I believe as you, we are Blessed by reading Revelation. No worries, we are children of the most High God. He watches for his children. We are covered. He wants all to know so they do not be deceived and other reasons, I am sure. I am back on it tonight. You are a doll. You are filled with the Light and Love. You keep doing what you are doing sister. Christ smiles on you his favor. Your writings are beautiful heartfelt, truth. I am honored to know you. My love, In 'his' name.

Great Challenge! And it isn't only Revelation that would bring us this blessing. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Therefore, any Book or Letter from the Bible would bring this blessing, but there is definitely a promised blessing for reading Revelation. Great Hub...I have never read the Word on my knees...what a humbling experience that must be?!

Blessings to you and thanks
