The Revelation (Prophecies of the Revelation Part 11)
The Revelation (Prophecies of the Revelation)
Part 11 - The Rider on the White Horse
In Revelation, the last book of the Bible, we can find prophecies concerning the end of the world. John, who had been a disciple of Jesus Christ, wrote the Revelation. He had prophetic visions about the world's final years, and wrote down what he saw and heard. The last seven years of the world are called the Tribulation Period.
In this article, we can read about the conclusion of those final seven years. But first, let's go over a summary of events that precede the end. First, we will soon see the rise of a political leader, called the Antichrist. In Revelation, he is referred to as the Beast; and he will become the worst dictator the world has ever known.
We will see more wars, and world-wide famine, and many more people dying from the effects of war, terrorism, and disease. But as the situation in the world begins to get even worse, the Rapture will occur. This is the event that will happen when Jesus Christ returns to gather all Christians and take them to Heaven. This will include those Christians who have died; they will be resurrected at that time.
After the Rapture, in the first half of the Tribulation Period, God will send two witnesses to prophesy about the end times. They will have supernatural powers, and try to convert people to Christianity. About halfway through the Tribulation Period, the Antichrist will have the two witnesses killed. But after three and a half days, God will resurrect them and they will return to Heaven.
Just before the halfway point of the Tribulation Period, a huge earthquake will occur, affecting the entire earth. Soon after the earthquake, meteors will fall to the earth; many people will try to hide as they realize that this must be the end of the world.
Many will curse God and refuse to repent of their sins. But many Jewish people will then turn to Jesus, and believe that He is our Lord and savior. God will protect them during the remainder of the Tribulation Period.
Another large flaming meteor will fall, and another huge earthquake will follow. This is a warning of the final acts of God's judgment. These acts will be the worst of the plagues upon the earth. At that time most people will have accepted and worship the Antichrist and receive his mark, called the Mark of the Beast.
Many, however, will repent of their sins and become Christians. They will not accept the Mark of the Beast. The Antichrist will have them killed, but at the end of the Tribulation Period these Christians will be resurrected and have eternal life in the new world.
Near the end of the Tribulation Period, the rebuilt city of Babylon will incur the full wrath of God because of its evilness. After a huge earthquake, it will be split into three sections, and then destroyed with fire. The judgment and destruction of Babylon will cause those in Heaven to celebrate; it will mean that the acts of God's judgment have been completed.
We can read about this celebration in the following:
Revelation, Chapter 19, Verses 1 through 10:
After that I heard the roar of many people in Heaven, shouting, "Hallelujah! Salvation, glory, honor, and power, to the Lord our God. His judgments are true and righteous, for He has judged the great whore that corrupted the earth with her fornication. And He has avenged the blood of His servants by her destruction." And again they shouted, "Hallelujah!" And her smoke rose up forever.
The twenty-four elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God, who sat on the throne. They were saying, "Amen, Hallelujah!" Then a voice came from the throne, saying, "Praise our God, all you His servants, and you that fear Him, both small and great."
Then I heard what sounded like the voices of a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters, and like the sound of thunder, shouting, "Hallelujah, for the omnipotent Lord God reigns.
Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to Him; for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready. To her was granted the right to be dressed in fine linen, clean and white; because the fine linen stands for the righteousness of saints."
Then the angel said to me, "Write the following: Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb." And he said, "These are the true words of God." I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "Do not worship me; I am your fellow servant, and with your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."
At the end of the Tribulation Period, Jesus will return with an army of Christians to make war against the Antichrist and his army. This will be the Battle of Armageddon.
We can read about the Battle of Armageddon in the following:
Revelation, Chapter 19, Verses 11 through 21:
I, John, saw Heaven open, and beheld a white horse, and He who sat on him is called Faithful and True. With righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like like blazing fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written on Him that no one knew, but He Himself. He was dressed with clothing dipped in blood, and His name is The Word of God.
The armies that were in Heaven followed Him, riding white horses, and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of His mouth came a sharp sword with which to strike the nations; He will rule them with an iron rod. He treads the wine-press of the fury and wrath of Almighty God. He had on his clothing and on His thigh a name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS
Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, who called with a loud voice, saying to all the birds flying in the middle of heaven, "Come, and gather yourselves for the supper of the great God. Come, so that you may eat the flesh of kings, captains, mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and those who sit on them, and the flesh of all men, free and enslaved, small and great.
Then I saw the Beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies; they were gathered to make war against Him who sat on the horse, and His army.
The Beast was captured, and with him the False Prophet who had performed miracles in sight of the Beast. With these miracles, he had deceived those who had received the Mark of the Beast, and worshipped his image. Both of them were thrown into a lake of fire burning with sulfur.
The rest were killed with the sword of Him who sat on the horse, the sword that came out of His mouth; and all the birds were filled with their flesh.
John saw a rider on a white horse. This was a prophetic vision of Jesus Christ, returning to earth as a conqueror. He will come to make war against the Antichrist, the False Prophet, and their army. His eyes are blazing with anger towards those who perpetrate evil in the world. The crowns on His head represent His authority, and that He has come to fulfill the Word of God.
John saw the army of Jesus on white horses. These are Christians who will be dressed in white linen, representing their righteousness. They will share in the victory of Jesus as a conqueror. The sword coming from the mouth of Jesus represents the Word of God. He will speak the Word of God and His enemies will fall.
Jesus will rule with an iron rod, meaning that after His victory over His enemies, He will establish His kingdom in which evil will not be tolerated. He will tread the wine-press of the wrath of God, meaning that Jesus will carry out God's judgment by killing His enemies.
John saw an angel who was calling loudly to the birds to gather for the supper of God. This supper refers to those of the army of the Antichrist who will be killed at Armageddon.
Then he saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies gathered to make war against Jesus and His army. The beast is the Antichrist, and the kings are leaders who will be under his command, and their armies are those who will worship the Antichrist.
John saw the capture of the Beast and False Prophet. The Antichrist and the False Prophet, who will have performed miracles and deceived those who worshipped the Antichrist, will both be captured. Then they will be thrown into the Lake of Fire burning with sulfur where they will both be destroyed.
They rest will be killed by the sword that came out His mouth. This means that the Word of God spoken by Jesus will kill all those in the army of the Antichrist. And so will end the terrible Tribulation Period.
From the Bible:
Then he gathered them to a place called, in the Hebrew tongue, Armageddon.
(Revelation, Chapter 16, Verse 16)
