The Thing About Mormonism

Before you start reading, This hub is about truth not about predilection. I am not anti Mormon, I'm against Mormonism calling themselves Christian.

Ephesians 5:11 "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them."

In preparing to write this I did my research. I looked into both sides and viewed a debate between a Mormon and a Christian and I've come to this conclusion: Mormonism is not Christianity. This hub is not meant to hurt Mormons I’m not anti Mormon as you like to label me, but I’ve pro Christ and Pro Bible. Please remember I do this to bring you out of the lies and show you Gods Truth. Before I go any further let me start with bible. Mormons do not believe the bible. They believe where the bible contradicts with Mormon teachings the bible is wrong. Does that sound Christian? That is a directly opposition to God's Word and Christians "Every scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness. 17 That the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16–17 The Bible is the first and last authority and we must use it to testing any and every "new gospel"

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

Joseph Smith

Joseph Smith the founder of the LDS church. According to his first vision records Smith was is a grove contemplating what church to join then all of sudden he was visited by God the Father and Jesus Christ both in glorified bodies. What a minute God in a body. Is that biblical?

“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24

“See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” Luke 24:39

Then according to the LDS records that the two beings told Smith that "All Christians and their churches were an abomination and corrupt " and not to join any of them. For the very start The Mormons come off being very anti Christian. You will notice every new/false religion attacks the bible and it's believers.

Interestingly enough there was another account of Joseph first which indeed was the first recorded account Smith said he was visited by angel of light(2 Corinthians 11:14) which accepted worship from Smith.

Do angels accept worship? What does the bible say Revelation 22:8-9 Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. 9 Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. ForI am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”

To sum up this section I'll end with a quote from Smith himself

"I have more to boast of than any man had. I am the only man that has been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from him, but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet." ( History of the Church", Vol. 6, pp. 408-409. 1884).

Mormon doctrine
GALATIANS 1:6-9: “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel.…but though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 2 CORINTHIANS 11:3-4: “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.”
“My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join.…I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt.…”—Joseph Smith—History 1:18-19, Jesus earned His godhood and salvation - Mormon Doctrine, McConkie, p. 129; Mortal Messiah, vol. 4, p. 434, Jesus contended with Lucifer His "spirit brother" for the appointment as Savior - Gospel Principles, pp. 17-18
TRINITY: One God who is revealed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit  MATTHEW 28:19: “...baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” 1.THE FATHER IS GOD: Philippians 2:11· THE SON IS GOD: John 20:28; Titus 2:13; 2 Peter 1:1; Hebrews 1:8; Matthew 1:23; Isaiah 9:6; Colossians 2:9, John 1, 3.THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD: Acts 5:3-4, Yet there are not three “Gods” but only ONE GOD: Isaiah 43:10-11; 44:6, 8; 45:21-22; 46:9
“I will preach on the plurality of Gods.…I have always declared God to be a distinct personage, Jesus Christ a separate and distinct personage from God the Father, and that the Holy Ghost was a distinct personage and a Spirit: and these three constitute three distinct personages and three Gods.” —Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Joseph Fielding Smith, 1976, p. 370
In the Beginning God Created the heavens and the earth Genesis, Hebrews 11:3, Romans 4:17, When Adam and Eve sinned, they damaged mankind's relationship with God. Genesis 3:8, When Adam and Eve sinned, they brought physical suffering on mankind. Genesis 3:16-19, The effects of this single sin were felt not only by the sinners, but also all of mankind who followed. Genesis 3:15-19.
"God never had the power to create the spirit of man at all. God himself could not create himself." (Joseph Smith, Jr. – JofD, Vol. 6 p. 7). " And now, behold, if Adam had not transgressed he would not have fallen, but he would have remained in the garden of Eden. And all things which were created must have remained in the same state in which they were after they were created; and they must have remained forever, and had no end. 23 And they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin. 24 But behold, all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things. Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy. 26 And the Messiah cometh in the fulness of time, that he may redeem the children of men from the fall. And because that they are redeemed from the fall they have become free forever, knowing good from evil; to act for themselves and not to be acted upon, save it be by the punishment of the law at the great and last day, according to the commandments which God hath given (2 Nephi 2:22–26 in the Book of Mormon).
ISAIAH 44:6, 8: “I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.…Is there a God beside me? Yea, there is no God; I know not any.”
How many Gods there are, I do not know. But there never was a time when there were not Gods and worlds.…”—2nd Prophet Brigham Young, 1859, Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 333, “In the beginning, the head of the Gods called a council of the Gods; and they came together and concocted [prepared] a plan to create the world and people it.”—Joseph Smith, 1844, History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 308

Questions Mormons can't answer.

If the Book of Mormon is true, then why has the Mormon church changed it? Examples are: 1 Nephi 11:21; 19:20; 20:1 and Alma 29:4. Compare these with the original Book of Mormon. (Gerald and Sandra Tanner have counted 3913 changes in the book of Mormon, excluding punctuation changes.)

If Moroni devoutly practiced the Mormon Gospel, why is he an angel now rather than a God? (Doc. & Cov. 132:17,37)

If the Book of Mormon contains the fullness of the Gospel, why doesn’t it teach that God was once a man or the doctrine of man’s pre-existence or eternal progression? (D&C 20:8, 9) If the Book of Mormon is truly the everlasting gospel then why is it necessary for additional scripture/revelation such as The Doctrine & Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price?

How can it be that The Book of Mormon includes numerous citations from the Old Testament? Reference: Isaiah chapters 2-14 with 2 Nephi chapters 12-24; Isaiah 48 and 49 with 1 Nephi 20 and 21; and Isaiah 50 and 51 with 2 Nephi 7 and 8. How is it that these scriptures from the Old Testament were found in the Book of Mormon when they were not given by God for several hundred years afterward?

Why would God hide a sacred text such as the Book of Abraham in a common burial papyrus when He made His previous revelation (the Old and New Testaments) known fully without resorting to an unknown language?

Since Jesus promised at Matthew 24:35 that His “Word” would “not pass away,” isn’t the Book of Mormon calling Jesus a liar by claiming that Jesus didn’t keep His promise to preserve His precious Gospel truths from being lost? Which should we believe? Jesus or the Book of Mormon?

If the Book of Mormon is God’s means of clarifying Gospel truth as prophesied in 1 Nephi 13:34, why are there over 100 Mormon splinter groups that all affirm the Book of Mormon as their foundational Scripture? If the Book of Mormon’s Gospel is really so “plain,” why do all these churches disagree about what this “Gospel” really is?

If Biblical Scripture was distorted by the so-called “abominable church” of 1 Nephi 13, why is there no evidence of this corruption found in the thousands of manuscripts we possess of the Bible today, many dating prior to the formation of the Catholic church? How could these manuscripts all agree with 99.5% accuracy if “plain and precious” truths were removed?
