The controversy about life

Updated on March 18, 2016

Life and the Question

Life is a complex thing. When you think you know so much, you meet with someone who knows things you have never even heard about. The other day I visited a friend of mine who told me something that got me off guard. He told me that his nephew had been sleeping in the toilet for the past week. When asked why, the nephew says he feels more comfortable in the toilet. I was like “Huh, toilet?” Obviously I had no advice for such problem. I wouldn’t even know where to begin. Maybe he should try to sleep in the shower the next time.

Different events take you by surprise. When things are running normally, and everybody is happy, that is when trouble seems to sneer. Soon you hear you have been fired simply because your boss finds you too uptight. Then you sit back and look at your life and ask, “What is the meaning of life?” That is when you realize that there is no use for struggling in life. After all whether you own the wealth of this world and have everything you have ever wished for or you are the poorest human being on the entire inhabited earth, we all end up in the same place. The grave. So when one asks what is the meaning of life, that is when their humanity begins. Because one realizes that there is something they don’t know about themselves.

Searching for answers about who you are can be challenging to answer without a helping hand of someone who understands this question better. That is where one begins thinking about religion. And they find themselves walking towards a church building to find answers to their troubling questions. That is when one begins to do research on the origin of human beings, doing studies in science and studying religious texts.

Human behavior is characterized by believe in a deity or deities. There are people who don’t believe in deities though. These are the atheists. It is good to know that before most people become atheists, they must have had a belief in supernatural beings such as God. Someone can become an atheist because of various reasons. Some become atheists because they think God didn’t answer their payers.

Let me talk a little bit about this issue of hating God because He did not answer a prayer. First of all, human beings should understand that God is the almighty. He can do whatever he feels is right. After all He is the creator of everything. When one begins to question that decision of God not to answer their prayers, they are actually questioning the authority and sovereignty of God. The bible clearly states that the mind of God is not the same as that of human beings 1 Corinthians 2:16. Again there maybe reasons that caused God not to answer your prayers. We must know that God is just in all His ways. God does not make errors like we human beings do. He is perfect in all that He does. He himself is the absolute perfection. It is time that we learnt not to give God ultimatums. God Himself doesn’t give us conditions. Who are we to do so? We should avoid seeking God when we only have problems. We need to have a relationship with God. Make God you best friend and father. Make Him your first priority. Learn to love God with your heart and not just your mouth. In fact before you love God with your mouth, make sure you love him with all your heart first.

When you have a close friend, you always run to them when something good in your life happens. And when something bad happens, they are still the first ones to know about it. Whenever you need some company away from the biasness of fellow mankind, you run to your friend for comfort and companionship. This kind of friendship is the same that you should have with God. That feeling that you have towards a close friend is the same that you should have with God. He himself has invited us to have that kind of a relationship with Him. He says, “Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” If you have a relationship with God, you are in a position to understand Him better and to be patient when praying for something. Jesus Christ Himself teaches us to be persistent in prayer in Luke 18:1-8.

Wanting to know about God is the first step to realizing who you are and what your purpose is on earth. Because what happens is that when you seek God, He will make himself available for you. The bible clearly tells us that God loves us regardless of our disobedience. Just like a father loves his stubborn son who will not listen to him. The perfect explanation of God’s love for human kind is given by Jesus Christ the Son of God in Luke 15:11-32. We are the ones to take the first step to draw close to God. God will not take the first step because he loves us. It is us to take a step and begin to know him so that in the process we can see his perfect goodness and love Him because he truly deserves to be loved.

When you know God and have a relationship with Him, you will realize the true meaning of life. I tell you, it’s a wonderful thing. Why don’t you try it out? If you always try yoga for peace, why don’t you try God for peace too and find out what he has to offer. After all you have nothing to lose. Am telling you, you will have much to gain.
