There Is A Way That Seemeth Right
There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. Proverbs 16:25
I know of a young man who had a heart attack and almost died. He was only 22 years old at the time
and was snorting coke (Hollywood lines) and drinking copious amounts of liquor. After this ordeal he became obsessed with death and at the same time extremely fearful of it. He quit the cocaine and the drinking. This young man is not a Christian but some how the fear gave him the power to quit. Why wait for something serious to happen?
This young man
now works for a fairly good company and is on the road to stability. He smokes pot and takes sedatives. But he is able to hold down a job and care for his child on the weekends. I don't condone drugs, but if this helps him for now then I think it is fine. I think some other alternatives would be better he should try those eventually.
After you quit something you should fill the void.
Ideally, with God and He will lead you. Pray about it and let God fill your void.
The Widow of Zarephath
Then the word of the Lord came to him, "Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you." So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, "Bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink." And as she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, "Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand." And she said, "As the Lord your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. And now I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die." And Elijah said to her, "Do not fear; go and do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth.’" And she went and did as Elijah said. And she and he and her household ate for many days. The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah. I Kings 17:8-16
This woman only had a little oil. It was a very valuable commodity, but unfortunately is wasn't enough to get her out of debt. What do Christians have to help them when they sense that they are empty? They do not have worth. They do not have strength within themselves or they do not have ability. But they do have oil! Oil is symbolic for the Holy Spirit. We can have the Holy Spirit. Praise The Lord!
Just like the woman in the story we to need to be resourceful. We can have success through the Holy Spirit.
Read these scripture aloud today:
For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free and all were made to drink of one Spirit. I Corinthians 12:13
You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. Romans 8:9
Then he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. Zechariah 4:6
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.Acts 1:8,
Dear Lord, I pray that we can stop trying to do things on our own but to depend fully on You. Please fill us with the Holy Spirit today and help us be witnesses and living testimonies for You and the Word. Help us depend on Your might, Your Power and Your Spirit. In Your Holy Name we ask these things. Amen.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him. Hosea 14:4
Stop
pretending, stop judging yourself and stop the enormous amounts of guilt that you put on yourself. Stop saying, "I used to be a good Christian", and start forgiving yourself today. Pray and start the journey of getting close to God, while you are still smoking, drinking, overeating, gambling, watching porn or smoking pot, .......or whatever your addiction is. I am not telling you to stop the addiction. I am not going to set you up for failure. Only God can help you. "Do you believe this"? Because, really only when you believe this can you start the healing, recovery and deliverance process. Today is the day where you confess your sins and ask for forgiveness.
Read these verses out loud: (numerous times)
Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. Isaiah 1:18
Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little. And he said to her, Your sins are forgiven. Luke 7:47-48
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. Ephesians 1:7-10
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him. Hosea 14:4
Repeat this prayer.
Dear God, I come before you and ask you for forgiveness. I ask that you could lift this heavy burden of guilt and shame. Please take these feelings away and fill me with a peace and a confidence in you. Give me faith I pray, so that I may believe that everything is going to be OK. Please make me whole through your salvation. In Jesus Name, Amen.
