They are dead
It can't give back
I have met many who worship their car or their house or their boat. They are literally idols. These people are obsessed with them.
I remember getting into an argument one time when someone told me a car was better than a bicycle. I laughed. They said they could get to our favourite fishing hole quicker. My reply was that I could enjoy the sweet fragrance of the wildflowers along the way and drink in the natural beauty more than they. They said that they could get to the beer store quicker. We had a race. Because they were caught in rush hour traffic and I could zip along beside the cars (safely) to the next light I beat him by ten minutes. I won a case of beer on that bet. That was in my drinking days.
I had an argument with someone who told me I needed to buy a house. I said: You don’t own the house. The government and the bank own the house. You want to build a patio: first you must pay the government to look at your plans to give you permission; then you must pay the government to send someone out to inspect the patio to see if it meets the governments standards, then your taxes goes up. If I want to go on vacation I can any time I want. How secure is your house if you go on a two week vacation. Houses are nothing more than money pits.
Materialism wars against our souls in a twofold manner. First it makes us discontent and envious of others. Second, it leads us to pamper and indulge our bodies so that we become soft and lazyJerry Bridges
The most miserable people I have met are the ones with the most toys.
"Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own." Luke 12:15 New International Version
On the other hand I have met many who are living paycheck to paycheck because they are serving Jesus. They are filled with joy (Happiness is a material experience while joy is a spiritual one. I prefer joy), peace having completely put their trust in Jesus to provide for them (which he always does) and contentment (that comes from knowing you are in the right place doing the right thing Jesus has chosen for you to do).
You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Psalms 16:10 New International Version
If given a choice which one do you choose: one: material things that can not love you back and eventually rust or rot away or two a spiritual relationship with Christ filled with joy, peace and contentment?
I have seen and experienced both. I know which one is the right choice for me, how about You?
Prayer: Thank you Jehovah Shalom (the Lord of our peace) for blessing me with peace, contentment and joy because of Your divine grace. Nothing or no one can even begin to compare. I give thanks in the name of the Prince of Peace Jesus Christ. Amen.
May the sunshine of Jesus’ sweet love bless you today and every day
