Genesis - Part 2 - God Creates Mankind in His Image and Likeness
"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light". Genesis 1:3 KJV
God speaks to create His universe. "And God SAID" is used 10 times in chapter one in reference to God creating with His WORDS! In the Gospel of John - Jesus is called the "WORD".
In Genesis - the book of beginnings there are so many basic principles that we can glean for our life. These principles are true and can be applied on a daily basis to whatever we do in life.
"And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so." Genesis 1:24 KJV
In verse 24, we learn that God creates "after his kind". That means - when you plant a corn seed - you will get corn. Today, we see man perverting the seed through genetic manipulation. In the natural and in the spirit - we are also planting seeds everyday. If we plant seeds of love - we will get back love. When we plant seeds of finances, we reap finances! Whether good or bad, reaping is a principle that was laid down in the beginning! The principle works in the natural, as well as in the Spirit. God laid down these principles back in Genesis - and even though man has tried to pervert them, they will continue as long as He said they would.
"God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea,and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air,and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." Genesis 1:26-27 KJV
God said that He would create man "in OUR image, after OUR likeness". God is Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - three in ONE. You are a 3-in-one person! You are a SPIRIT, you have a SOUL, (mind, will and emotions) and you live in a BODY. You were created after His image and likeness. It's important to see that the Trinity is established "In the beginning". There are many other references to the Trinity in Scripture, thus to know it was established in the beginning - shows it's importance.
God creates man (and woman) in His IMAGE and LIKENESS. The Hebrew word for IMAGE is: tselem, which means: image, likeness (of resemblance) from the Strongs Concordance. The word LIKENESS is dĕmuwth, which means: similitude, in the likeness of, like as. If you have children, you know what this means - your children look you! They act like their mother and father. We are created in God's IMAGE and LIKENESS so we are to look and act like Him.
In the New Testament we are told to be "IMITATOR'S of Christ".
This principle from the book of beginnings, like all of God's principles have been challenged and perverted by God's enemy. You are created in God's image and likeness. God doesn't create junk. He is the Master Artist. You're His work of art! As we get into Genesis - chapter 3, we will see what happened to mankind and the position he had with God in the Garden of Eden. Man went from walking and talking with God in the Garden, to hiding from God. What happened? You've got to come back for part 3 in this series.
Until next time.
