To The UNKNOWN GOD

To The UNKNOWN GOD

“Men of Athens I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship , I even found an altar with inscription : TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship is something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.”

>

ACTS 17 : 22-23

>

>

The city of Athens is the heart of the Grecian civilization. Apostle Paul was greatly distressed upon entering the city of Athens. The city was full of idols. The Greeks were indeed very religious people. They worship many Gods. Aside from their supreme God Zeus, they have goddess of beauty, goddess of fertility, god of fire, god of the underworld and many other gods and goddesses,

>

Amidst the gigantic idols in Athens, Paul saw an altar with an inscriptiom “TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.” Inspite of their many gods and goddesses, they still reserved an altar to the ONE GOD they did not know.. Deep inside their hearts, the Greeks with their many gods and goddesses were empty spiritually for they are still longing to meet the ONE TRUE GOD. They were still alienated from the ONE TRUE GOD, despite their tremendous religiosity.

>

Greek’s many gods and goddesses were not able to satisfy them spiritually. According to a certain physicist Blaise Pascal, “in every man’s heart there is a vacuum, which can be satisfied only by the One True Living God. God set an eternity in a man’s heart. No amount of earthly things, no amount of material gains, no amount of wordly success, no amount of wordly happenings and revelries can satisfy such emptiness in a man’s heart apart from God. Not even an abundance of religion can fill man’s emptiness. The Hebrews had a life full of religion but still they are longing for the coming of the Messiah.

>

The Grecian’s religiosity had never brought they any inch closer to the True and Living God. Having a religion does not guarantee a true and living relationship with God. A religion must be founded on the TRUTH, on the person of JESUSCHRIST.

>

JesusChrist says in John 14:6 :

>

“I am the way and the truth and the life, No one comes to the Father except through me.”

>

Only through JesusChrist we will have a true and living relationship with God, We have to receive JesusChrist as the Messiah, the Son of the living God as the Lord of our life. As it is written in John 1:12:

>

“Yet to all who received him, to all who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

>

JesusChrist is the firm foundation of true knowledge of God. Apart from Christ, no one can find true relationship with God. The Jews have tried to seek relationshop with God apart from Christ, but never find true righteousness and peace. If there is any other way, Jesus need not come down from heaven to earth. Then Christianity will lose its true essence and distinction.

Very true, wise words and I agree that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to know God, experience His "abundant" life here & in eternity, and to have a home in Heaven someday. He truly is the ONLY Truth for this hurting & lost world.

I also like your "To the Unknown God" Scripture passage. That passage has always been fascinating to me. So thank you for writing about it!

I just found this blog. I published one titled, "God In Whom We Live and Move", from the same passage. I think our thoughts complement each other, because of God's Spirit who dwells in us.
