Walking by Faith, Not by Sight

2 Corinthians 5:7 - (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

Why is it so important for us to walk by faith and not by sight? I personally think because things are hardly ever as they seem. You know when you have one of those weeks when everything seems to be going wrong? Things break, maybe the car didn’t start, bank card doesn’t work, and I could go on and on. Well, at that time it is very easy to let all those things get you down or wear you down and to buy into the stress that goes along with it. Instead maybe we just have to think about, “well maybe I would’ve been in an accident if I left with the car at that time”, or “maybe I am supposed to witness to the guy who fixes our car”, or “maybe something else was avoided like that we don’t know. It could be little or it could be large, we just don’t know.

Walking by faith seems much harder at first but in the long run with plenty of practice it is so so much easier. I’m not saying that there is always reason for annoying things to happen, maybe sometimes it just tests or faith. When really tough things happen how do we really hold up? I sometimes imagine how I would be in a certain situation and think I would be strong in my faith, but it turns out that this one particular time when I had a health problem for a week (that turned out to be very minor) I was full of anxiety, stress and doubt. At that time I didn’t have hardly any sleep and my husband couldn’t help because he had to work so much that week. So with lack of sleep and added stress I didn’t do very well. I didn’t hold up that well. Although, I prayed constantly and God did alleviate the anxiety, it kept coming back so I just kept on praying until it was gone. It was my medication, Praise God! It was a very strange time. When we walk by faith rather than sight we need to just take one step at a time.
