Westboro Baptist Church. Are they following God?

The Westboro Baptist Church is extremely different then most churches in the entire world today. It is very small and most of it's teaching is about hate. The teaching of the Westboro Baptist Church is not only teaching about hate of homosexuality, but also Jewish people, our military, and the United States of America.

In 1996 Fred Phelps, the leader of the Westboro Baptist Church, held a protest of the against the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. stating that " Jews deserved this because the Jews and homosexuals dominated Germany." They even stated that " Jews are the real Nazis" Don't they realize that Jesus Christ was born Jewish?

The Wesboro Baptist Church has done many more things, that are very strange. On May 14, 2008 two days after the Sichuan Earthquake in China, they thanked God for killing so many Chinese, and then prayed for God to kill more Chinese people because they believed all of the Chinese people were ungrateful.

The Wesboro Baptist Church is very focused of homosexuality, however it is against racism. Recently the KKK was interviewed about them. The KKK spoke out against them. After that interview, the Westboro Baptist Church called every member of the KKK " fags" Interesting, the KKK are fags, the Jewish people who were in concentration camps were gay, so many people in the world today are gay. How can we even populate this earth if all of us are gay? Would the world population grow as large as it is growing? Probably not.

Basically, if you do not agree with them, you are gay No matter who you are, where you live, what your religion is, if you are not one of them, then you are gay. Kind of interesting isn't it? Lauren Drain, a former member of the Wesboro Baptist Church, while being interviewed told us had a very interesting comment. It is true that Fred Phelps hates the Military, but at one time in his life he actually went to West Point. He did not spend much time there, but Lauren believes there is a reason for that. She thinks he may have fallen in love with another man. However, since his homosexual feelings were given back to him, but the man he fell in love with, his heart was broken. That may have been the reason he left West Point.

After leaving West Point Fred Phelps changed. That was when his hatred of homosexual people and the military became so strong. He feels so enraged against the military and homosexuals is it possible that he is a homosexual himself? This might be the reason he hates gays and the military, not the bible.

They also have very interesting views on Barak Obama. They believe he is the Anti-Christ and that he is connected to Pope Benedict XVI, who they believe is the False Prophet. But didn't Pope Benedict XVI retire? Don't they realize that the bible tells us, that the beast will blind all of us, so that no one will truly know who the beast is until it is too late? They only use part of the bible, and if people point out the parts of the bible that state God loves the world, they call that person "Gay"

Another interesting, but very sad thing is that the Westboro Baptist Church celebrated the fact that Boston Marathon was bombed. They believe that God sent the Boston Marathon bombs. And picketed the funerals of the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombs.

They picket funerals of soldiers, and even children who have died in school shootings. They give praise for horrible things. They follow the leader of the church even though they are unable to answer questions about why they are doing these things. Oh, by the way, if they can't answer your question, you are gay.

They believe God hates the world and all of those who live in it. This is very confusing, if God created the world, why would He hate it? Why would God have sent His only begotten Son, to be crucified so that we could be forgiven of our sins?

I am not sure who the Wesboro Baptist Church is following, but it is probably not God.

Please listen to the song they love to sing, in the video below.

What is your point of view?

The Westboro Baptist Church

  • They know what they are doing
  • They have been brainwashed

I've written about this group before. In my humble opinion, they are hurting the name of Christianity with their ravings, and it is good to see some true Christians, like yourself, speak out against them. They are a small but boisterous group that needs to crawl back into the hole from which they came.

Good job Michele.

There isn't anything Christian about them. If they really knew God, they wouldn't do the things that they do. Perhaps they should read the story of Jonah. He wanted the people of Nineveh to pay the price for their sin, but God chose to give them mercy instead. If God be for you who can be against you?

mcampell, no there is nothing Christian about them. And you are right, they know nothing about God.

Indeed, Michele, agree with your two commentators above. Nothing makes me more furious than those who use the Christian faith to further their own misguided personal agendas. It comes from both the left and the right. Only those who truly know their God through Christ are able to maintain godly joy and stability in the face of these extremes. Thanks for being one of them, the godly I mean. :-)

Thank you very much liftandsoar. It is horrible how they treat the true Christian Faith. They are probably driving people away from God. Those who truly need God.

This is the type of group that the far left love to spotlight and make it seem that all Christians are like these church members. Voted "up".

Thank you my girl sara that is horrible isn't it. It turns people away from God. The good thing is that a lot of people know they are not like true Christians. There is even a group on Facebook that is against them.

Oh, my goodnes, how disturbing! How can they even believe such? They must not even read His Word. Our Lord and Savior was a jew. The jewish people are God's chosen people. This is anti-God and anti-christian at its worse!

Wonder why they don't read His Word about Israel!!!

On another note, I am so thrilled, Michele, that you are back writing here on HP! I have missed you dearly.

Hugs and love, Faith Reaper

Hello Michele.

Informative. God bless and protect and strengthen you Michele after writing this repugnant story of perversion calling themselves " church".While reading I could sense a demonic oppression, obviously a spiritual force of evil ( god ) the group is dominated by. Even provided song due to subjugable content I had to discontinue listening.

Knowing the truthfulness of the Word, and teaching/living opposite to it, may fall under one of the most difficult warning spoken by Our Lord and Saviour, - Matt. 12:31. " I tell you, men will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy, but blasphemy agains the Spirit will not be forgiven."

Well done, sister; good to have you back.

Voted up and useful.

This is so ignorant and I don't know how they are allowed to call themselves Baptist. With all the real concerns Christians have and better things to be doing. Well, these are definitely not Christians. So sad and could cause hate and hardship for real Christians. I guess all we can do is pray for them, as hard as that would be to do. Thanks for making us aware.

Good to hear from you again.

As hateful and as anti-Christian as Westboro Baptist is, they've picked up on a truth too often ignored. Namely, that God is a god of justice and there is a real hell awaiting those who reject his mercy and live as though He were non-existant. The problem is that the Westboro folks have taken upon themselves the role of God which is just as offensive to God as though one rejected God altogether.

Hello Michele,

I confess that I do not know much about the Westboro Baptist church but they do seem to be a bit twisted in the things they believe. I can't understand why they would picket funerals.

On another note, it is nice to see you around again. I hadn't seen you for awhile and was a bit worried. Hope everything is OK and that you feel 100%.

Take care and God bless,

North Wind

There is a great problem with the WBC. From what I have seen, there is nothing Christ like in this church. I personally do not support the state of Israel, but I would never let them starv either.

Thank you for your comment Sword, it does make sense. Maybe I am wrong, but I think that is what the 1,000 years in the beast and the false profit are sent into the hellfire. The chosen ones then will have time to teach people about Jesus, and people will have the choice to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. That in the book of Revelation is so wonderful!

SwordofManticorE profile image

I believe you are wrong sister. I am a preterist when it comes to the book of revelations, yet I am still stuck on the symbolic use of a thousands years. It could mean one whole day. Who knows? But you are welcome anyways.

That also could be true in terms of the creation of the world. That is the reason people should follow God in truth. One of the things I pray for it to follow the path God wants me to follow.

Hi MsDora! Thank you so much for comment, and I am happy to see you. Yes this is for real. It is really very sad they teach this to their children. They never give explanations. Hi Michele,

I didn't read all the comments, but it seemed like a lot were concerned with the use of the word "Christian" or "Church. I'm a Christian and I attend church. I am also a Baptist, and let me tell you this perverted group has no right to use the word "Christian", "Church", or "Baptist". They clearly have no idea what Christ is about.

On the other hand, as much as this group angers me, I must remember that Jesus died for them as much as anyone else and they desperately need to find him. Thanks for a great post.

Chris 3 years ago

It seems the majority of the commenters believe you can choose to discount the unpleasant parts of the bible. The Westboro Baptist Church preforms their "hate" ONLY because they are explicitly instructed to do so by the book that the majority claims to believe is the word of "God." Get off your lazy asses and read the book, its all in there.

liftandsoar profile image

liftandsoar 3 years ago from Richmond, VA

Chris, properly interpreted there's nothing in the Bible to support what Westboro is doing. However both misguided "Christians" and cynics like to quote what furthers their agenda.

Michele Travis profile image

Michele Travis 3 years ago from U.S.A. Ohio Author

Hi lifegate, thank you for your comment. You are correct. Jesus died for them also. He was the greatest gift God ever gave to us. My brother also goes to a Baptist Church. He is not even close to the West Boro people.

Michele Travis profile image

Michele Travis 3 years ago from U.S.A. Ohio Author

I am sorry Chris, I cannot agree with you. How can God hate a world, when He gave us his ONLY begotten Son? Jesus was very painfully crucified. Died on the cross. Rose from the dead, and our sins, even though we do not deserve them, have been forgiven. That is amazing.

its clear they are not Christian in any way. They do not understand the bible or the Character and Nature of God.

They actually sound like they are following allah , if not it must be one of his brothers. We need to renounce them every chance we get publicly, there is such a lack of knowledge of God and scripture in the world today that many believe they are following God .

There are those that make excuses for them but we must expose them as fakes as Paul and Peter both advised us to do with such people.

Fred Phelps is a cruel man who worships a cruel God. This guy embraces the worst aspects of the Bible such as hatred violence torture hellfire. He embraces the cruel vindictive spiteful barbaric Old Testament God and He embraces the New Testament teaching of hell. He relishes and enjoys when others suffer and die. He gloats at the idea that others are going to hell. According to this Primitive Calvinist(and the word primitive aptly describes the mentality and morals of this barbarian) the enrire world is going to hell including many Christians with the exception of Fred Phelps and his braindead followers. Yes gays are repulsive but this man's religious beliefs are more repulsive. His God is an evil God who wants people to suffer. Calvinism is a Satanic doctrine. Thats not my God. My God is not a cruel violent sadistic monster like the God of Fred Phelps. The God of Calvinism and the God of Fred Phelps is a moral monstrosity. I saw this guy preaching to his braindead congregation the passage in the Bible where God threatens people with eating the flesh of their sons and daughters(cannibalism). Cruelty violence carnage killing death and torture is entertainment for this sick despicable execuse for a man. The Westboro Baptist Church fighting the Ku Klux Klan? This is like Freddy vs Jason. Thats like Alien vs Predator. Thats like a Centipede taking on a Scorpion. Its evil against evil. They deserve eachother. For my part I hate them both. They're both idiots and they're both evil. The Westboro Baptist Church is a mirror reflection of the Ku Klux Klan. They are identical twins. Fred Phelps gives Christianity a bad name and it frankly embarrasses me that this man is a Christian.

Michele Travis profile image

Michele Travis 3 years ago from U.S.A. Ohio Author

anonymous I agree with you. Racism is evil and was created by the devil. And yes Fred Phelps embraces suffering. Even my daughter told me that. We were watching TV one evening and she read one of the signs that said "eat your babies" She told me that he was evil. And as you probably know, she has Autism. She has a high level of Autism/Asbugers syndrome they call all of it Autism now.

She actually thinks he is worshiping satan, but just doesn't know it yet.

By the way, you have very good comments. You are very honest and I respect that.

The pastor at Westboro forgot that we are supposed to love those outside the church as a way to bring them to saving faith. The judgment here on earth is for those INSIDE the church as a way to keep each other accountable.

Michele Travis profile image

Michele Travis 3 years ago from U.S.A. Ohio Author

my_girl_sara You are right! Isn't one of the commandments " love thy neighbor as thyself"?

Instead they simply hate their neighbors. Well and anyone outside their church.

Thank you so much for your comment.

anonymous 3 years ago

I just watched the video of Fred Phelp's braindead congregation singing God Hates the World which is a parody of the song We Are the World. Im laughing at it. Im not laughing with them. Im laughing AT THEM. The world is evil yes but they act as if they are the only good people in the world. They deceive themselves. They're neither good people and neither are they good Christians. Fred Phelps and his braindead congregation think that being able to quote from the Bible and holding up signs reading God Hates Fags makes them good moral Christians. What a joke. Heres a newsflash for these deluded self righteous dunces. They(Fred Phelps and his sick Church) are also a part of this evil world which they preach against. If Fred Phelps and his cronies want to speak out against evil then they should look at themselves in the mirror. They are cruel sadistic spiteful and they talk and act more like Satanists than Christians. Have these people ever done anything productive? Have they ever given to charity such as feeding the hungry? I bet the answer to that question is no. Fred Phelps is an evil cruel sadist who enjoys watching people suffer. Anyone who doesnt believe like he does and anyone who doesnt live like him is automatically called evil and judged. So Fred Phelps decides who goes to hell. What nerve. Its a distorted perverted view of morality this man has. Being gay is a sin but being cruel isnt? Ahem. Cruelty is the biggest sin Fred and you and your sick Church are guilty of it. They should call themselves the Church of Cruelty. Its embarrassing.

Michele Travis profile image

Michele Travis 3 years ago from U.S.A. Ohio Author

anonymous once again I agree with you. They are a part of this evil world. They are very cruel and they laugh and the pain and praise hate. That is very horrible. And you are right, it is embarrassing.
