The Chinese zodiac comes in revolutions of 12. Each chinese year has its own animal symbol and repeats after a dozen revolutions.

A Chinese year does not follow the same structure as our calender of January to December and starts on different days of the year compared to the solar calendar.

The Chinese calendar is still used to mark off traditional holidays as well.
