What Does Believing In God Do For You?

Updated on September 3, 2012

My mom was taught to pray at the age of three.

She's had a difficult life so far. She was married for 52 years with a man, her husband, who daily yelled and screamed at her and the children. He was a drinker and often angry. She was a good listener. What did she do to deserve it? (Now she's single- a widow- and enjoying it...)

Sometimes things just happen in our lives and we may not know why. I choose to believe that God is behind everything. The main reasons there is suffering in the world is:

  • Free will. God gave us free will and by humans choosing to do good or evil, there is therefore (by our choice) evil in the world. God did not create evil, Man is the one who commits evil, isn't he? God allows us to commit evil only because of Free will and because he wants us to choose Him.
  • Suffering is the opposite of happiness, one cannot exist without the other. Heaven-Hell. Light-Dark. Good-Evil. God-Devil. Suffering makes us appreciate the good.
  • Faith-Would we come to God in prayer, or seek His help if our lives were perfect?

The reality is that we are all born with a place in our hearts seeking LOVE. Where do we get that love? Does it come from family, ourselves, people? What if everyone fails us, then what?

I'm blessed that I was brought up with the Catholic Faith. Why? Because my prayer life is so important. My belief in God is so strong, that no one can take it away from me. Believe me, many have tried and it only got stronger. By being agnostic for a time, and feeling at times like a non believer and then traveling through the world of Christianity into being a bible believer, well, I've come back to Catholicism. Why? Maybe I needed the journey to understand it all. Maybe in order to be humble to others I needed to see where they were coming from. Maybe in order to teach others about God, Jesus Christ, our saviour who died on the cross to save us from our original sin, and everything else that the church teaches....hope.

If you're gay or transgender or lesbian or whatever, that doesn't mean God doesn't love you. You can love God no matter who you are and God loves you no matter who you are.

He's ready to show you a way, a better way, to love Him. He wants you to see Him and let him show you. Many like to sit in silent meditation or silent prayer and just "listen" for wisdom from the Holy Spirit.

Today the world is more than ever trying to take Spirituality away by accusing people of believing in God that they're crazy. That's crazy! Because we are all born with the desire of a saviour.

We all need to be saved, saved from our difficulites, our lives, our pain, comforted in our affliction, we need to know what to do, how to do it, how to find peace.

Where does inner peace come from?Is it really from believing in yourself? So you're all alone? We are not alone. We were created by a Creator. God loves us. You will see. If you are sad, just say a prayer and you will find comfort.

You are fooled if people tell you you don't need a God. You are fooled. It's proven scientifically that prayer eases the mind and heals the soul. Yes. Look it up. That's why Psychology is teaching it. That's why the mental health system is allowing Spirituality Groups

I lead a Spirituality Group. I've seen so many people that want God. They cry with tears in their eyes or inside.

  • Some speak about God and just want to be loved.
  • You've got the ones who don't know God yet and feel a need for him in their lives.
  • The alcoholics who learn about a higher power which is the basis of thier healiing.
  • The faithful who pray regularly and attend Church- which is gathering together. "Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am present"

It's important to pray for others and for ourselves. It's important to call someone and pray with them and for them.

A Version of the Sinner's Prayer

We are all sinners. We all fall short of the glory of God.

"By faith are ye saved, not by works lest any man should boast".

Once we are saved, or accept Jesus as our saviour, we will go to heaven.

Pray the sinner's pray, I dare you! Take a chance for once, put aside your pride, get down on your knees, and just pray.

For example:

Dear Lord, Father in heaven, my creator, I'm asking today that you help me to see and to show me that you love me. I am confused and uncertain that you exist. I want to try just once to see if a prayer works.

or

Please forgive me Lord of all my sins. I wish to live a better life, knowing that you love me. Show me your love, Lord.

or

Jesus, Lord, I come before you full of confusion and pain. Please wash away my sins with your precious blood. I believe you died on the cross for me to save me. Cleanse me of all my sins and be my shepard. I ask you to save me.

You can make up your own prayer. See what happens. You have to really mean it though. That's the part you haven't tried yet, have you? If so, try again, maybe you really didn't mean it the first time.

Does believing in God help you?

Destroying People's Faith Destroys Hope!

It is said there are more martyrs in the world today than ever! Because of communism in many countries like China, people are being killed for their want to believe in God and read the bible. What is a martyr? A martyr is a person who dies rather than deny God. I'm not talking about the Muslims who are promised 23 virgins for killing. First of all, Jesus Christ does not teach to kill people, He does not teach that. The bible teaches us the ten commandments to go by. It teaches us to "turn the other cheek" It teaches us to be humble, to "bear with one another". There is no greater example than Jesus Christ in all of history than he who gave up his life to save us. "Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his friends." And it wasn't just any death- it was a grievious one documented. Whether you believe it or not how painful it was, is up to you.

How did the twelve apostles "conquer" the world spiritually and thereby help create the greatest Church on earth? Because they had quite a story of love to share to express, to tell and that which they witnessed that it the faithful grew and grew.

Something meaningless does not grow like that.

Accept Christ today. You'll be glad you did. Your life will not be perfect- far from it. But you will know your true purpose in life- to love and to serve and you will be happy to do so.

I'm happy if after all the pain I've been through in life, in offering it up to God, with my prayers, that if one or more souls are saved and go to heaven because of my humble efforts, then it was worth it. Life is temporary and our true home is in heaven with God when our time comes. Until then, be blessed! Be a vessel for God and do what you can.

"I will be with you until the end of the world"

"Upon this rock (peter) you will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" This means that no matter how evil the world gets, Christ will always be with us. Amen!
