I Know a Secret

When I was young my pastor was an eloquent speaker. His sermons were so vivid that I still remember them although I see them in my head rather hear the words or see him. A favorite sermon that inspired me was about the name of God. He called it, ‘I Know a Secret.’ This was so inspiring because the patriarchs, prophets, and seers longed to know this secret. Kings, priests, and judges all waited for the moment when the secret would be revealed. Today the orthodox Jews are still awaiting the answer to this question. What is the name of God?

God revealed himself to the Hebrew Patriarchs through titles. His name was not revealed, but tantalized the faithful for thousands of years. When I say that he revealed himself I mean that he allowed the Hebrew people to know his character and presence by witnessing his acts and deeds. Abraham called him Lord. The Hebrews honored God and to this day the Jews write G-d because even to use the term God is too holy to use all the letters.

When Moses received his instructions to return to Egypt and gain the freedom for the Israelites he asked God for a name. God told him to say that I Am had sent him.
Exodus 3: 13-14
13 Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”
14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” 15 Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’

Isaiah Called Him Lord

The prophet Isaiah knew the Lord very well, and called him Lord. Isaiah received a prophecy of the coming messiah that revealed names that he would be called.
Isaiah 9:6
6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 40: 25 “ To whom then will you liken Me, Or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One.
Isaiah 43: 10 “ You are My witnesses,” says the LORD, “ And My servant whom I have chosen,That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me. 11 I, even I, am the LORD, And besides Me there is no savior...14 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel:

If you really want to know more about God read the whole chapter of Isaiah 43. In fact, the entire book of Isaiah makes really good reading. You will learn who God is but his name is not revealed. Even in the New Testament when the moment was right he was referred to as Emmanuel meaning God With Us.
An angel appeared to Mary and told her that the Holy Spirit would overshadow her. She would conceive a son. Matthew 3: 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.” 22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

I am sorry to disagree with you, Animosity Reborn, but the Bible directly reflects the fact that Jesus is God Manifested in the flesh. Just because you do not believe it does not make it any less true. I Timothy 3: 16 Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great:

He appeared in a body,

was vindicated by the Spirit,

was seen by angels,

was preached among the nations,

was believed on in the world,

was taken up in glory. Thank you for your comments.

Jesus is not God nor is he a partner of God nor is he equal to God. God is one. The Bible reflects these claims. It is only a matter of time before the world does as well.

You are very welcome Ms Smireles,

I never doubted your resourcefulness, by the fact that you knew about the “Y” made me sure that you are a true searcher of truth, thus having God given spiritual insight, for this is how I learned of this from another.

My greatest desire after sharing what the Holy Spirit has shown me is to promote and encourage all souls and I am always willing to learn.

Your humble servant in Christ,

Interesting thought; some would perhaps spell Christ' name "Yahshua"; noting that I am not aware of a “J” sound in Hebrew as some use (not you of course). But, even more interesting, Christ claimed to have "revealed" the Fathers name to his disciples.

“I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.” (John 17:6, KJV)

“I have revealed your name to those whom you took from the world to give me. They were yours and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.” (John 17:6, New Jerusalem with Apocrypha)

I enjoyed your Hub, thank you.

Yahweh is another name of God which means 'He is' Jesus talks about I am ... the way, truth, light. Jesus answers often using the words I AM - Yahweh says it all - 'He Is!'
