What does the "Name" of God Have to do with Our "Foreheads?"

In both the Old and New Testaments, we find Scripture use the word “forehead” quite a few times. In some cases, it literally means the surface of the head just above the eyes. What is interesting is that more often than not, the “forehead” refers to something that goes on inside the head. It is something that refers to the “heart” and “mind,” or our thoughts and actions in a figurative sense.

And you shall fasten it on the turban by a cord of blue. It shall be on the front of the turban. It shall be on Aaron’s FOREHEAD – Exodus 28:27-38

And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone and slung it and struck the Philistine on his FOREHEAD. – 1 Samuel 17:49

These Scripture references above give literal examples of a forehead, but there are also figurative examples as well.

Therefore the showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come; yet you have the FOREHEAD OF A WHORE; you refuse to be ashamed. – Jeremiah 3:3

But the house of Israel will not be willing to listen to you, for they are not willing to listen to me: because all the house of Israel have a HARD FOREHEAD and a stubborn heart. Behold, I have made your face as hard as their faces, and your FOREHEAD as HARD as their FOREHEADS. – Ezekiel 3:7-8

New Testament "Forehead"

Moving on to the New Testament, we also can reference “forehead” in a figurative sense as well.

“Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the servants of our God on their FOREHEADS.” – Revelation 7:3

Then I looked, and behold, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name WRITTEN ON THEIR FOREHEADS. – Revelation 14:1

Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the RIGHT HAND or the FOREHEAD – Revelation 13:16

And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his FOREHEAD or on his HAND – Revelation 14:9

Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its MARK ON THEIR FOREHEADS or THEIR HANDS. – Revelation 20:4

They will see his face, and his NAME WILL BE ON THEIR FOREHEADS. – Revelation 22:4

If we can make the distinction between the literal and figurative, we may find some deeper meaning and clarity on the "name" of God that affects who we are both physically and spiritually.

Walking the narrow road.
Walking the narrow road.

The "Forehead" and the "Name" of God

What is interesting is that the “forehead” in the book of Revelation refers to a physical area of the body, but in a figuratively way speaks of people who walk the action of the “heart,” “mind” and “hands.” Upon their "foreheads," they either have the "name" of God, or the mark of the beast.

There are other references to peruse within Scripture, but what I am try to connect is the importance of a "name" and how the "name" effects our "foreheads," and what type of action and results it brings.

Mark of the Beast

There is "name" that is in opposition to God; it is an opposing name, which is the mark of the beast.

And on her FOREHEAD was written A NAME OF MYSTERY: “Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth’s abominations.” – Revelation 17:5

I believe this name refers to the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. This is the counterfeit of the ONE true God. Further elaboration on this can be found in the "related articles" links at the end of this article for your perusal.

“I HAVE MANIFESTED YOUR NAME to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. – John 17:6

Things get even more interesting; there is also a connection of what is “between the eyes” as stated in Scripture. What is "between the eyes" is located on the "forehead" too.

And it shall be to you as a sign on your HAND and as a memorial BETWEEN YOUR EYES, that the law of the LORD may be in your mouth. – Exodus 13:9

You shall bind them as a sign ON YOUR HAND, and they shall be as FRONTLETS BETWEEN YOUR EYES. – Deuteronomy 6:8

Is there a connection here?

I believe understanding the "name" of God is important.

Is God's "name" about knowing how to physically pronounce it, or is it a spiritual understanding of who God is?

Could it be both?

God knew the antichrist beast religion would come and most would be deceived into worshipping the religion of the Great Whore, the Trinity doctrine. It is a distinction of mind (forehead) and action (hand) that marks who we are.

There is debate on the Father’s name and the proper pronunciations, but I believe there is a greater matter at stake concerning God's "name."

There is great importance of being sealed with the Father’s “name" on our "foreheads," but it is not just about the "forehead." It is also about following the “name” to where it leads and to where it goes.

It is these WHO FOLLOW the Lamb wherever he goes. – Revelation 14:4

We find the “name” of the Father through the "name" of His Son.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send IN MY NAME, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

The "name" of the beast is marked upon the religious people who gather to worship the Trinity. We know this because the mark of truth is not found on their foreheads.

The "name" of God attests to all those who are in the likeness and character of Him through the "name" of His Son, Yahshua. They have the Spirit of God within them because they too are one in spirit with the Father AND His Son.

Those among the ekklesia have the Father’s "name" written on their foreheads. The “name” is found through the Son of the Father who is the ONE true God. It is a transformation of mind through the fruit of repentance that brings us into the likeness and character of God. We too become sons and daughters of the Father, just like Yahshua who first led they way by example. Yahshua Messiah was the beginning of the Gospel.

The BEGINNING of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. - Mark 1:1

Just as those who from the BEGINNING were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word - Luke 1:2

That which was FROM THE BEGINNING, WHICH WE HAVE HEARD, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands - 1 John 1:1

Let what you heard from the BEGINNING abide in you. If what you HEARD FROM THE BEGINNING abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son AND in the Father. - 1 John 2:24

For this is the message that you HAVE HEARD FROM THE BEGINNING, that we should love one another. - 1 John 3:11

And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me FROM THE BEGINNING. - John 15:27

And now I ask you, dear lady—not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had FROM THE BEGINNING—that we love one another. - 2 John 1:5-6

Names are important, as they are identifiers. Many have a sharing in a name as in a last name. Scripture attests to many names that were selected according to their meaning of those who worshipped God. Children were even named according to the pagan gods they worshipped. King Nebuchadnezzar was named after a pagan god, Nabu.

To the ONE WHO CONQUERS I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a NEW NAME written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.’ – Revelation 2:17

The ONE WHO CONQUERS, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him THE NAME OF MY GOD, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and MY OWN NEW NAME. – Revelation 3:12

The overcomer who has given up their lifestyle of sin will be living in the fruit of repentance, a new creation identified as one who comes in the “name” of the Father through His Son, Yahshua. His “name” will be written on their "foreheads." This is a brand of ownership.

The Mind

The frontal lobe of the brain covered by the forehead is the part of the mind that deals with our conscious choices. It is the seed of the conscience. New habits are formed and replaced with others. The mind is remolded after the pattern of our new habits.

There are those who will accept, or deny the divine “name” of God to be written on their minds (foreheads). Their allegiance to the "name" becomes the center of their thoughts. Their "name" becomes their brand-name. Their habits either bear the fruit of repentance, or not.

“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that THEY MAY ALL BE ONE, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, THAT THEY ALSO MAY BE IN US, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I HAVE GIVEN TO THEM, THAT THEY MAY BE ONE EVEN AS WE ARE ONE, I in them and you in me, that they may become PERFECTLY ONE, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. - John 17:20-23

Will you yield to the name of the Trinity, or the name of the One true God and His Son becoming one in spirit with them?

Yahshua is our example. If we follow him, we will become sons and daughters of God also.

When His “name” is written on our foreheads. We are in subjection to God through the "name" of His Son. We are His children.

But to all who did receive him, who believed IN HIS NAME, he gave the right to become CHILDREN OF GOD, WHO WERE BORN, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but OF GOD. – John 1:12-13

And he is the head of the body, the ekklesias. HE IS THE BEGINNING, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. – Colossians 1:18

"This is my name forever" - Exodus 3:15
"This is my name forever" - Exodus 3:15

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ THIS IS MY NAME FOREVER, and thus I AM TO BE REMEMBERED THROUGHOUT ALL GENERATIONS. – Exodus 3:13-15

The “name” of our ONE Father, God is I AM. His "name" is a verb, which is an action; therefore, an action is required upon our minds ("foreheads"). What we do makes a distinction between what “name,” or mark is upon us.

“Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, GLORIFY YOUR NAME. ”Then a voice came from heaven: “I HAVE GLORIFIED IT, AND I WILL GLORIFY IT AGAIN.” – John 12:27

Do you find it interesting that the “name” of God is an action?

Many give lip service to the Father and the Son, but do not act upon the "name." They also worship a “God” who is named of their own making, and the result of their actions reveals the mark that is upon their foreheads.

To what "name" is your allegiance to?

God has a name and it has been hidden by the scribes and translators.

God said moreover to Moses, "You shall tell the children of Israel this, 'YAHWEH, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' THIS IS MY NAME FOREVER, and this is my memorial to all generations. - Exodus 3:15 WEB

Is the the "name of God" one of action, or lip service in a harlot denomination?

PandN- Jesus had always or in most cases spoken of God as the "Father"or "Our Father". If one reads the four gospels they will notice that Jesus did not mention or teach on the subject of Gods name. In each case where Jesus prayers are writen in the gospels He starts with the word"Father" or "Our Father" as noted in Matthew 6:9 and in John 17:1.

This is not to say that God's true name in not important, it is. But what is most importent, is His name sealed on our foreheads when it really counts.

This subject of God's name does need to be further studied. And thank you for bring it up in this great article.

God Bless

Thanks for the write up. I often mention the names on the foreheads and markings and such but I've always thought of it as you have said here. While there may actually be a mark in the future, I believe it is what is going on behind that bone that makes up the forehead.

The heads of many are already marked with the worldly thinking. It should be no surprise that many hands are already marked as well by what they are doing.

When Jesus talks about being doers of the word, again action on our part because of what we are thinking. Today being the 8th I read the 8th proverb. Wisdom is what we are to get, seek out, look for. By being an active disciple of Christ, He will give us the wisdom. By being doers of what He has told us to do it will transform our minds and our hearts.

Wisdom could be see as one of Christ's names as we are to seek Him.

Years ago I heard a Catholic priest say "the thought is the father of the action" when the thoughts are as Christ would think and do, then the actions from the heart will be kingdom princples in action.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your MIND, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. - Romans 12:2

...and to be renewed in the spirit of your MINDS - Ephesians 4:23

“For who has understood the MIND of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the MIND of Christ. - 1 Corinthians 2:16

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your MIND. - Matthew 22:37

And he who searches hearts knows what is the MIND of the Spirit - Romans 8:27

And the dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel to see the beast, because IT WAS and IS NOT and IS TO COME. This calls for a MIND with wisdom... - Revelation 17:8-9

Clearly the state of our minds have an important role in our destiny. The "name" that is written upon our "foreheads" is the determining factor.
