What is the point and meaning of Life

What is the meaning of life from a Christian perspective? Is there hope?

I am going to answer from my life's view as a follower of Christ-
It starts in the garden- Humans had a personal relationship with God. He designed things for people to enjoy, to enjoy Him, have children, grow things, be creative, talk to him, run around naked, have relationships, to cultivate the garden, take care of the animals...we were like little kids in the beginning- free to just be happy and full of life, with very little restriction other than the whole "don't eat the fruit from the tree thing".

Food for thought-
A three year old will never ask the question, "what is the meaning of life", they will just rip off their clothes and run through the sprinklers laughing and screaming as if it was the best thing on earth. They don't worry because they are cared for by someone bigger than them, they just live life. Yes, they fall down, skin their knee. Yes they may have a myriad of painful experiences, but the joy, playfulness, and creativity seems to always be there. In a three year old is a glimpse of what could have been for our entire earthly life.

Back to the garden-
So then our relationship with God was broken and had to be fixed. He fixed it. There are a lot of deeper issues here and "church" sounding words like sin, justification, redemption, sanctification, forgiveness and the like. Don't get too hung up on that. Lets just leave it at "broken". Humans broke it, life got screwed up. Now we have to "work hard" at making this life work. Kinda sucks really. For most of us life isn't "easy" in any way.

We face loss of job, people, things, comforts. Each day we have to hit the alarm, drag ourselves out of bed, and do it all over again. We lost the kind of life we were originally designed for. We are created in the image of God and are meant to live like we did in the garden. But this life here is also broken. We are broken and life is broken.

God says- "here is the fix- I have made a way for you". We either want it or not. If we don't we just make it as best we can and hope for the best at death (pretty risky though). And we make our own rules along the way...some of them may even give us a sense of being "happy" ( for more on that:.

If we do want it, we get a lot of great things. Peace, love, faith, care, joy- so many things. Creation and the earthly way of life is still difficult and painful, just like the three year old's can be if they fall down. But, we know that there is someone bigger than us looking out for us. At death, we get everything back that we lost in the garden and then some.

John 16:33

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

That is the point of life. To have a freely abundant life of loving and being loved by God!
(abundance -I am not talking about money here- that is slot machine Christianity). To get as close to what we had in the garden (probably shouldn't run around naked in public though- may get arrested) as is possible in a broken world while waiting for the next. Here we have the opportunity to be so well loved and- we get to share that love with others. This kind of living makes God famous in all the world (it glorifies Him).

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full".

So having that "fullness" is the point. Living life, loving God, loving each other. If you want it, its there. And then you will understand this great spiritual mystery. Can I explain it? Not very well. Can I prove it? Only by my own life. I can't prove hope or faith, yet most people will believe in these things without proofs ironically.

I love life and my life has been filled with hardships and tragedy. I wouldn't have missed it for anything! Heaven will wait, i have things to do still.

That is the meaning of the Christian Life- that is what makes life meaningful!

Jesus is the way, truth and life, he who has the Son has life, but he who does not, has only death to look forward to. Jesus is the only thing worth living for in this life and I am glad my eyes were kept open to receive His words of life. But Jesus did not create Himself. He is God and therefore was never created. He was always with the Father. John 1:1-10 states how He has always been. Nothing that was created could ever be created without Him. He is no zombie of the universe. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! God who came in human flesh, and I am glad He came and died for me. Every knee will bow and every tongue shall confess this.

Isn't that funny that somehow it became an apple? My personal thought is we have never seen the fruit- I think it was only in the garden...but that too is just speculation.

I love that old song, you know, the one we'd all sing during vacation Bible school when we were kids: AND THEY'LL KNOW WE ARE CHRISTIANS BY OUR LOVE, BY OUR LOVE, YES THEY'LL KNOW WE ARE CHRISTIANS BY OUR LOVE:

Awesome hub, enjoyed reading it.

God is love. If anyone says he loves God but does not love others, he is a liar.
