Who or What Is Abraham-Hicks?
"Infinite Intelligence". Abraham is Source energy that is channeled through Esther Hicks. Esther Hicks is a woman who relaxes her mind and body, as she allows the consciousness that is Abraham to flow through her. She proceeds to receive blocks of understanding from Source, translating it through her vocabulary, which is understood by us- humans. Now, this doesn't mean Abraham is an alien. In fact, giving any title to Abraham would be misleading. It is not an "entity" as we understand the meaning of the word.
If you're more confused than ever, let's start from scratch. The woman you see as Abraham is Esther Hicks. She and her late husband, Jerry, began an experiment over twenty years ago in which they decided they would contact infinite intelligence. Jerry was a great asker of questions, and Esther was the ideal channeler of information because she was a relatively neutral person. She was not strongly decided on many topics in life, and was open to receiving. As the story goes, the first time that they succeeded in contacting infinite intelligence, Esther said to Jerry, "Swear that you will never tell anyone". Of course, they understood that the vast majority of people would be incredibly skeptical to accept such an eerie story.
Abraham responds to this reaction of channeling with this: Every person channels, and it is not such a spooky thing. People channel in all sorts of ways. We are channeling when we meditate, pray, when we are in "a zone". Athletes and artists are channeling when they are doing what they do. In this arena, with a woman standing on stage and "speaking the words" of non-physical energy that is not her specific self- people get thrown by it. It seems cult-ish or strange at the least. You might wonder, "What are they trying to achieve by possibly brainwashing people?"
For me, I researched Abraham-Hicks hesitantly at first. I didn't want to be gullible or naïve. I learned about it with caution, but with an open mind. After watching a couple videos on YouTube, I thought, "I can't believe I am thinking this, but I agree with it!" I quickly could see that there is no scheme here. Do you see bright shiny signs on the backdrop or endorsement of services by Abraham? No. Not at all. Esther Hicks is at ease when she speaks, so is the audience. They are having fun. The few times there is mention of a book or product created by Esther and Jerry Hicks, Abraham specifically says that they help with the processes of training our minds, but they are not necessary. We can do the same thing without the books. And it's true. The books are there because people like to read them and have the information at hand.
At the workshops, what you will see is "Abraham" on stage. There is always an introductory statement with information, and then they start to take questions from the audience. The audience member is selected based on how close they are to the frequency of what they are wanting, and may benefit from the interaction the most. People can ask whatever they like, and do not have to have the question prepared beforehand.
The point of this setup is so that everyone may benefit from the question-answer experience. One person's question may benefit many people in the audience who have similar questions in their minds. This is much more effective to get guidance from the session, rather than for people to have one-on-one meetings with Abraham. The question-asker sits in the "hot seat" in the front, and asks or expresses their thoughts. Abraham responds and everybody learns.
There is something that is really important here. Abraham-Hicks does not look to be treated as God, or as an idol. In fact, the message is that we are all the same that is God, and we are very, very powerful. Many of us sit sulking or fretting and do not realize that we have the power to live the life we desire. In fact, that is why Abraham brings this intelligence- to empower us, or rather, to bring us closer to our awareness of our own power.
Anyone who is not on the frequency of this knowledge will not accept Abraham-Hicks. For that reason, this cannot be pushed on somebody. This is why they don't advertise. Jerry and Esther Hicks knew that whoever wants the information will attract it to themselves. This is a concept that can be seen in our lives in many ways. For example, sometimes we know something very well, it's been told to us over and over again, we seem to understand the fact, then one day we finally think "NOW I UNDERSTAND!" It's because all the other times, we were not on the same frequency as the information, so we were not aware of it in that same way. This is why we shouldn't push any ideas on to other people, even if you are trying to help them. This system does not work whatever the idea is.
The community that follows the teachings of Abraham-Hicks is a strong one. There are some articles around the internet posing the question of why the Hicks have been so vague about their own personal histories. It is suggested that for this reason, they cannot be reliable and trustworthy people. Still, consider that the personal lives of the Hicks are irrelevant to the teachings of Abraham. If you can accept that Abraham is not Esther Hicks, then what does it matter what life experiences they have had before or during the Abraham years? She is the channeler, who allows us to tap into tremendous intelligence.
Watch Abraham through Esther Hicks and there is one thing you can know for sure. Regardless of how you feel about the idea of channeling, the psychology and teachings of the Abraham-Hicks organization is incredibly simple and ground-breaking at the same time. As Jerry Hicks himself said of Abraham's identity, "I don't know what they are and I don't care what they are. I'm just using them for the good it will do for myself and others." So much of it makes sense and many of us already believed these concepts but have been trained otherwise by society. If it seems interesting to you, then that's great. If it doesn't do anything for you, then let it be.
