Who do you believe in?

edge of creation
edge of creation

What belief best fits you?

As a child we are tought certain things by our parents, teachers, television influencial iconic figures and the society we live in. Depending on your upbringing or social position, these views and beliefs can be altered and naturally swayed over the course of your life. The world is a big place, filled with various cultures and religions and if you've ever traveled or consider yourself to be socially concious, your brain could have absorbed a wide array of knowlege that can depict your standpoint on certain personal beliefs you may have.

I was born to what the world would call, a "religious woman." However, as I grew and learned the difference from what the 'world' calls something and what may naturally be, I found that at least for myself, the closer we feel we are to the TRUTH, the further infact we actually are. I'm sure you've heard of the demi-goded Greek culture's various gods and goddesses and other stories that strike our imagination. Our infatuation with the after life possibility, depictions of Heaven and Hell and Hollywood's interpretation of the ongoing fight between good and evil (remember Constantine)? All of the stories, books and movies undoubtedly affect our viewpoints in some way or another. After all, the people behind them are human and it takes imagination to strike imagination. However, lest you know the 'real' truth, your mind may wonder in search of it.

Over time and through the years I have adopted various religious and personal beliefs. I was raised Christian, non denominational and till this day believe in the holy trinity of God the Father, the Holy Spirit and Christ the Son. I also believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose to ascend to Heaven to only return for the righteous in the last days. In addition however, I believe very little of what the Bible entails. In my opinion there's too much room for error when a book is written by man, regardless of what angelic influence the writers were under.

Man has been accused of tampering with mankind's free will to live and thrive by his own means and looked to 'control the society' by implementing it's religious beliefs as true doctrine. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure my faith stands in accordance to what is actually real but I believe a man's faith is his key into heaven. I also believe that God is not ignorant and knows man is without 'hard evidence' of his existance so it only seems fitting that God would judge a man's heart and not whom he or she chooses to worship, well, to an extent.

I recall having discussions with my mother based on the different cultures and religious beliefs in the world asking 'what about the people in India or 1000's of miles away who never heard of Jesus, are they going to hell because they didn't believe?" As always, the answer was yes! Even when I asked my pastor and bishop, the reply was always "the world knows, they just choose not to believe." Frankly it never made sense and it seemed too primal of a throught processed judgement by what is supposed to be a merciful and loving God.

Man, in my opinion has perversed the image and name of God. A true God is universal, all languages and translucent, without color OR religion. That's right, God has no religion, nor did he preach a religion. Your Relationship with God is what counts, and furthermore your relationship with yourself and others also determines your existence in the life after. God created us all in his image and to be like him so we are all gods (lower case).

I heard a friend say that we are all spirits walking around with garments of flesh, not flesh walking around as spirits. We all speak the language of God, but it is he who we acknowlege and pay homage to.

Think about it, would a man in the deep countries of China call his God, Allah? Or a man in Indonesia, as a child grown to a man with only one belief, would he abandon his faith for another man's account of God? And what gave man the right to alter another's faith and condemn him to life in hell if he chose not to?

It's simple, the world will never be at peace and war will destroy us as a whole if we don't let people believe in what they believe in. Is war necessary? Maybe, there are those in the world who's lust for destruction and control could possess them to apply force in order make believers out of men of different faiths.

As gods ourselves, we need to recognize that fact and spread that knowlege throughout the world and to all mankind. Then maybe we can all believe in the same thing, ourselves!!!

This is truly an interesting topic of discussion. I really did enjoy reading your rhetoric as it raises many critical thinking issues surrounding the question of faith and Christianity.

I was born and raised as a Theravadan Buddhist and to me, it is the only religion I really am familiar with. Although I did not fully embrace it as a youth, I did when studying in in college and believe wholeheartedly that it is the right path. However, with this being said, I don't want to discourage your decision in which faith to follow, only that Theravadan Buddhism works for me and makes a lot of sense.

Good luck on your religious endeavors, R.Edwards. I really hope that you do find what you seek and until then, love all those around you and forgive your enemies absolutely. In doing so, you sow kindness and charity and so will consequently reap what you sow.

Thank you. I was hoping this topic would gain attention and an in-depth read. Much appreciation Dohn.

you're argument seems to suggest that though we are individually gods we are still under the one God. additionally, you've said that God has been distorted by men and have put forward you're own ideas of God which include that "A true God is universal, all languages and translucent, without color OR religion. That's right, God has no religion, nor did he preach a religion."

but you put forward earlier that you don't believe in the Bible which would rend your opinion entirely your own. sooooooo having said all that

how can you say that your view of God isn't simply a corruption of God by men?

Good question.

Strip away everything that seems 'deep' or influenced by man and you have God, pure and absent of these 'rules' by man. All God asked was man to worship HIM, he was without name.

I truly believe God is to each group of men as that man sees him.

The philosopher Xonophenes (check that spelling) said that if Oxen had the hands of man, they would undoubtedly paint their God in the image of an ox, so on goes for the horse. As for man, (different dialogue btw) an Anglo man would not paint his God in the image of an Oriental, nor would an African paint his God in the image of a Spaniard.

It really makes sense to me. As men we are entitled to our opinions and that's the most that any of us can bring to the table when it comes to religious or personal views and beliefs.

Before we all walked the same territory, there was God. Before there was religion and a name for a 'universal' god, there was God. It was then about being a good human being overall. I mean, I'm pretty sure we still offered frangrances and such to who we as a respective group of people believed in, but it never included killing other men until inquiring minds became controlling and man started religion and therein lies the story.

elliot.dunn 7 years ago

you're offering two opposing ideas. which is it? did God exist before humanity or is God an abstraction of the human mind?

God existed before, during and eternally after people leave this earth.

We are all spirits walking in flesh form, a piece of god...he breathed life into our lungs, we are as much of him as he is in us.

Each of us has a set of abilities or talents and individual paths to follow such as the case of the story of the 3 men God gave talents to. What we do with our talents, man whom we chose to help along our paths determine our nobility as gods.

I feel as though the earth is a pre setting to what Heaven will be like, a direct resemblence of the earth's enviornment and atmosphere but without death and destruction. Wherein lies what you as a person walking in flesh while on earth, did with your talents, who did you inspire, what did you help build will determine your granted or denied entrance into our Father's house.

lol, it's funny I heard the notion that 'man doesn't need God' or that 'God (like you just said) is an abstract of the human mind.' I offer to differ, humans are the abstract creation of God's mind, a way to determine (through free will, as Angels also have in Heaven) who will abide in his kingdom.

Once we die, we return home. Earth is but a temporary home, no wonder death is necessary, we as humans have critically shifted the balance of life by questioning divine order.

It really isn't hard to understand...yes, your'e a god. Black, White, Hispanic....just some of us due to God's given free will chose to become worldly and bury our soul man at the same time.

Jesus was just like us, a piece of God (though he was directly from God, God himself in human form) who came to earth to say "hey, what are you dummies doing? You are the same as I, act like it" to be short and sweet.

Adhere to your faith for in the end your heart will be judged, not the name in which you call your Father.

The diverse way in which we all think and believe makes us truly beautiful and unique in our own ways. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on this thread too!

Great article. God has been distorted by man. Jesus did not preach religion, he only wanted everyone to act in a proper way: no hate, no war, no greed. Only love yourself and your neighbor. You don't need a building to go to church, just step outside into Gods Creation.

If you read the Bible, scripture and really study it for what and why it is written you would understand that there is only one triune God in three persons, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. If you really study and understand the scriptures you would understand “we cannot be gods” as you put it. If you really study scriptures you would understand it is truth, without error. It has been proven from history to date that everything contained within the Bible is truth, and has never been disproved by skeptics or anyone else for that matter. The biggest reason you find or someone finding fault with the Bible is the accountability issue because again, if you really read and study the scriptures as intended you will and are held accountable for the truth within it, that is = God is the only God, His Son Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, His death upon the cross, rose again the third day granting us mercy for the penalty of our sins and the Holy Spirit is our comforter upon which He sent to us.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.

17 For God sent not the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through him.

18 He that believeth on him is not judged: he that believeth not hath been judged already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Please open the Bible, and read/study for yourself that you may not be confused. Don’t take mans word for anything, read Gods word and understand what truth is. After reading this hub and seeing others out there it leads to alot of spiritualism, we are all gods, we can all get to heaven by many paths, if our good out weights our bad we can go to heaven, “PEPOLE UNDERSTAND” that is just not true and understand that there is only one way to Heaven, and that is Jesus Christ =

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

Please I urge you, read and study the Bible/Scriptures and do not be misguided by mans spiritualism/philosophies and ideas!!

I read your input and it is the same thing that I've argued against since I found I had a "heart after God."

I've never disowned the scripture's main focal point, Jesus Christ being born of a virgin, crucified and rose after the 3rd day, snatched the keys of Heaven & Hell from Satan and freed the saints who were bounded in captivity. I also believe that Jesus 'IS' the Father and Son, the sacrificial lamb to act as the bridge between Heaven and Earth so that man, reven though naturally born into sin, could enter his AND our Father's kingdom.

However, there is nothing, I repeat NOTHING in the scripture that says "be a Christian"...or "be a Jew." all of these 'religions' are manmade! God is and always was, therefore a name along with a religious title should have been written as his sole identity. I brelieve God cloaked himself in flesh and came to earth not to steal, kill or destroy but to allow ALL......ALL mankind everlasting life. Jesus didn't come weilding a sword against other faiths in foreign lands, but he did tell a high priest or two off. He ate with theives, promised a murderer he would join him in his father's house and stopped a mob from stoning an adulterer. Now that doesn't sound like a God with a religion, geared to save only one specific group of people and damn to hell those who only knew one faith all their lives and never accepted Christ as their saviour, frankly because, like us they held strong to their faith. I've been told by Christians that God will make sure these innocent people who followed their faiths just like us, burn in hell. Now that's not a very merciful and understanding God like the "scriptures" say.

Man made God the tyrant by making a REAL religion that ALL must follow. Jesus never said that, in no shape, form or fashion.

We are all a part of Gods direct creation. Jesus came in human form to show us that we can perform works of wonder like him. It's scripture that I'm sure you have crossed, maybe worded differently.

Bill 7 years ago

First of all let me say you are 100% correct about this “religion issue”. It is not a religion we should be attached to, it is a direct relationship with Christ Himself. The word Christian, Jew etc is a label for one to classify themselves to which has no value in justification/salvation, but the relationship is what one should strive to. Through salvation, accepting through faith Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior is truly the only way to go to Heaven; by no other name/religion can one enter. Also what did you mean in your last paragraph:

We are all a part of Gods direct creation. Jesus came in human form to show us that we can perform works of wonder like him. It's scripture that I'm sure you have crossed, maybe worded differently.

I am sorry, but I am really not sure off what you mean. Also I never mentioned any labeling as Christian, Jew, etc, but I will say that I am follower of Christ if we want to label it.

R.Edwards,

you seem to be so confused. However,as you believe in The Blessed Trinity, perhaps if you just pray to The Holy Spirit to guide you,and forget about labels, you will be shown the way.

Read the bible ,but seek guidance with the interpretation.

When you are confused you can easily fall prey to spiritual harm.God Bless.

R.Edwards says..."However, there is nothing, I repeat NOTHING in the scripture that says "be a Christian"...or "be a Jew." all of these 'religions' are manmade!"

Errr.... I think you may have missed the bit where Jesus says quite categorically;

John 14: 6-7

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him."

Now if Jesus was telling the truth, (and He was either telling the truth, a liar or a madman, take your pick)then He was clearly stating that He was the ONLY way to God. Christ is the ONLY man who has EVER made this statement, that's why His followers are called Christians, however I do agree that MOST so called Christians are actually members of Churchianity rather than disciples of Christ.

A disciple of Christ has submitted their authority to Him and chosen to obey His commandments.

Members of Churchianity have joined a religious organisation because they think it will benefit them, they have taken out an eternal insurance policy that they expect to cash in one day.

Have you all ever listened to your heart? What does it say? In the depth of your heart your god resides. We are not for any scripture, the scripture for us. Why we debate on religion. We are brothers. Everyone is true, everybody is right, except those who spread hatred and try to divide us. I am black, you are white, but we all are creation of Almighty. It's true that someone has created us. And not unintentionally, precisely for a reason. Only that should be our thinking. Our discussion shouldn't stipulated in who is right and who is wrong. Please, close your eyes, meditate on your soul, it must show you the way. Every prophet had a mission to be completed. And all of them were holly spirit, sent to lead us to our destination. If someone think there's no God, we shouldn't ask him to prove that. None of us are able to prove it physically. But a thoughtless soul must show the right way. So, empty your glass first then start to fill it with water. Please don't take it otherwise. I am not here to put any comment on the existence of God. I am not going to penetrate anything in your own philosophy. One question I want to ask here. WHO IS ABRAHAM? As far I know he was the father of many religions. Do you know David, Noah and Adam. In hinduism Noah is named Manu, In muslims scripture he is named Nuh... God has given us some duty to nourish his creatures on this earth. But what we are doing, we are beating our own brothers. Being selfish we are robbing in our own house. As a human being our duty is to be united. Please meditate 40 days regularly, we will get many answer from your soul. It will show you what you are, where you are from and who is your creator. Please find out your mentor for doing this. You can follow Dean Ornish or Mahesh Yogi. Now a days, you can follow Shivanandji (shivyou.com). Sorry to interrupt you. But be wise in thinking. Jesus tells us not to fight each other.
