Words of Death
Have you ever wondered what you will experience at the moment you leave this world? I mean, what will it really be like? Will you be sorrowful about leaving loved ones behind? Or maybe you will have some regrets over failure? Perhaps you will be looking forward to the rewards that await you.
I have also been told that the last words of individuals are the most important words they will speak in this lifetime. Here is a collection of last words from a number of people as they faced their final moments on earth.
"Our God is the God of whom cometh salvation. God is the Lord by whom we escape death.” - Martin Luther
“Nobody will ever know I existed. Nothing to leave behind me. Nothing to pass on. Nobody to mourn me. That’s the bitterest blow of all.” - Tony Hancock (British comedian)
“The great mystery is Jesus Christ—the gospel. What would the condition of any of us be if we had not the hope of immortality?... Thank God, the gospel of Jesus Christ brought life and immortality to light.” - Daniel Webster. His last words were: “I still live.”
“I commend my soul into the hands of God my Creator, hoping and assuredly believing, through the only merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour, to be made partaker of life everlasting; and my body to the earth, whereof it is made.” - William Shakespeare
“Frances and Courtney, I’ll be at your altar. Please keep going, Courtney, for Frances. For her life will be so much happier without me. I love you. I love you.” - Kurt Cobain (taken from his suicide note that was left behind)
“All my possessions for one moment of time.” - Elizabeth the First:
“I sported with the holy name of heaven. Now I am haunted by remorse, and, I fear, forsaken by God.”- The Duke of Buckingham, a professed atheist spoken as he lay dying
"Too bad, too bad! It's too late!" - Ludwig van Beethoven
"Farewell, my children; remain always in the fear of the Lord. That temptation and tribulation which is to come is now at hand and happy shall they be who persevere in the good they have begun. I hasten to go to our Lord, to whose grace I recommend you." - St. Francis of Assisi
"I rejoice, yea, my spirit leaps within me for joy, that now the time at last is come when I shall see the glorious God face to face; whom I have by faith longed after, and after whom my soul has panted." - Zuniger
“All of the wisdom of this world is but a tiny raft upon which we must set sail when we leave this earth. If only there was a firmer foundation upon which to sail, perhaps some divine word.” - Socrates
Oh, let me mention one more.on
"It is finished" - Jesus Christ
These were the last words of Christ as He completed His task of delivering salvation to mankind. Although they were His last words before He died. He spoke again after the resurrection. Before ascending back to Heaven the words He left with us is this: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Let's get busy and do just that. There is a lost world out there that needs to hear that it is finished!
