What Happens When You Are Baptized With the Holy Spirit? -Your Very Bones Will Be Soaked With His Spirit
The Holy Spirit's Actions Through Men and Jesus In the Bible
"And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet." 2 Kings 13:20-21 K.J.V.
Why is it that the evidence of the Holy Spirit is more present in some than in others? Is it because they have the power of God upon them as He has commissioned them for some great work? Why aren't they more men like Elisha and Elijah? These are some questions that often plague the mind when reading the Scriptures and realizing the great deeds done by these men and women through the Holy Spirit. Paul, Moses, Peter, John, Abraham, Gideon, Deborah, Hannah, and Samuel. What made these people so strong so that great things would be achieved in their presence? Why is it that every Christian is not like that? How is it that the Holy Spirit does not rest on all of God's servants as it rests on they? I daresay that there are some that He does not rest on, and also that there are some upon which He will never rest on.
If God is all powerful and sends His Holy Spirit to His people, then why isn't there outright evidence that the Spirit dwells in them? It is because they have not received the Spirit. If the Spirit is received and welcomed then I tell you your very bones will be soaked with the Spirit and His power will be on you so that all may see.
The Fruits of The Holy Spirit
- love
- joy
- peace
- long-suffering
- goodness
- faithfulness
- gentleness
- temperance
- meekness (humility)
See Galatians 5:22
These fruits are the evidence that the Holy Spirit dwells within us.
The Power of the Holy Spirit
The power of the Holy Spirit is not a trivial thing. I often hear people say things like, the Holy Spirit told them not to wear this dress, or the Holy Spirit came and told me to eat almonds. What? Will the Holy Spirit be reduced to a fashion adviser and a food guide? He is far more than that. Once the Holy Spirit arrives He does not leave save if you become cursed as Saul was and when the Spirit left him, he knew it and despaired entirely. How jealous he was to know that He dwelt with David. The evidence was there for him to see!According to the Bible, everyone is recognized by their fruits. If you have the seeds of the Holy Spirit within you then the fruits will appear in your life and everyone will see.
The power of the Holy Spirit is so strong that it even gets into your clothes. Jesus being God and man was and is at one with the Spirit and so the power was in His very coat as when the woman with the issue of blood came and touched Him, He felt virtue go out of Him.
"And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me."Luke 8:43-46 K.J.V.
Again we see it with the man of God, Elijah:
"Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thine hand, and go thy way: if thou meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.
And the mother of the child said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her.
And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked." 2 Kings 4:29-31 K.J.V.
Why did Elijah tell Gehazi to run with the staff? Why did he tell him to stop for nothing? Because Gehazi did not carry the Spirit within himself. We see that later when because of his greed, he contracts Namaan's disease of leprosy. The staff held the power that the Holy Spirit had placed on Elijah. Gehazi was not quick enough and so the child did not awake.
When viewing the bones in the valley, the Lord asked Ezekiel, "Can these bones live?" and Ezekiel answered and said, "Lord, You know." Then the Lord told Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones and tell them that He would cause breath to enter into them and that they would live. And as the Lord said it so they became alive before the face of Ezekiel. When He says I will dwell in You He does it and there is no doubt that you are alive. No doubt that He has done a good work in you.
Can the Holy Spirit Dwell Within Us As He Did in the Men of Old?
One might say that these were extraordinary men and one cannot put that sort of pressure on a normal everyday person.
One might have some doubts that the Holy Spirit does not act the way He acted before but the truth that is written in the word of God is that He does not change and He is willing to reward the faithful and to comfort those who belong to Him. The Holy Spirit is the gift given to us by Jesus so that we can be guided to follow the path of righteousness. The Holy Spirit is the one who can resist the temptation of sin and keep us from it and so it is crucial that He lives within us.
The Spirit is able and willing if one would only receive Him. But He is not a beggar! And He will not be mocked. Too long has His name been bandied about as a byword so that unbelievers think that His work is naught and insignificant. If He takes a hold of you, He will never let go and hear this - He will use you just as He used the disciples, and the prophets, and the other men of God like Jonathan Edwards and William Tyndale. You cannot have the Spirit dwell within you and remain idle. For even when you are still, your bones will be proof that He is with you.
