   Should the vatican be forced to open their records to the public?
   
   is it ok for the vatican to keep so many secrets or does this undermind the whole point of religion?

   Great question!! I would say encouraged not forced or atleast compramise some records. I'm sure theres some stuff the public isnt ready for.

   Now how would the vatican retain its riches if they opened up the secrets? Silly idea.
   I guess you'll just have to become a priest, then a bishop, then a cardinal, or whatever crown you need to wear to be able to read. Happy hunting!

   Yes.  I am a former Catholic.  Although not all of it - the disgusting reports of child abuse and cover-ups are part of the reason I refuse to support that organization.  I believe that modern Catholicism - which is not the original tradition - is a dying animal. Europe has virtually disowned it, the U.S. is abandoning it on a major scale (Catholic schools have been closing en masse across the country for the past several years), and, Canada and Australia don't appear real enthusiastic about it. Additionally, it is reasonable to expect that - as education improves there - the developing world will, inevitably, follow suit.

   The Vatican is recognized as a sovereign state and that would set a precedent for all states to open their secrets.  Now that would be interesting.

   It would probably bring down the Catholic Church if they did - so yes - I'm all for it.
   
   I should imagine, though, that there is stuff in their archives that they would rather expunge altogether than have it see the light of day. Afterall, we all know that - on occasion - these criminals have re-written history to cover their tracks.
   
   It would also be pretty cool if we could - somehow - recover all the historical material (documents and sculpture, even entire buildings etc) that the church has wantonly destroyed down the centuries: such as all those Aztec/Mayan codices and the contents of the library at Alexandria.
   
   The damage done - in God's name - to our collective heritage, by these advocates of ignorance, is unforgivable.

   That's an interesting questioon. As an American I might re-phrase that question as: 'Should the public be able to subject the Vatican to a kind of "Freedom of Information" Act mandate?' Should we be able to make "Freedom of Information Act" request when we want information on this or that period of the Church's history or about this or that range of activities, and so forth?
   
   If we wanted to do that we must ask a question first. Do we believe the Vatican possesses information that is of public interest?
   
   I can think of one kind of information that is of public interest: the status and location of convicted, pedophile priests, I should think.

    My only question is -- who is going to force the Vatican to do anything? Secular law enforcement does not have jurisdiction within the Vatican, so there is no forcing them to share anything...if they want to, they will. If they don't want to, good luck to any enforcement body on Earth trying to make them.

    What a wonderful treasure the Vatican has! It would rock the world and change the planet for ever, with the Vatican losing the vast majority of their future revenue.
    
    If the Vatican can shield their priests, who are peons in the sight of the Vatican, from prosecution and restitution to their victims of child abuse, then how in the world will any government or group pry their hands from their immense treasure of secrets, secret knowledge and historic archives.

    Vatican City is the Second largest bank in the world.  I find it most interesting that now big businesses have decided to turn their attention to Those riches too.  But then, Vatican City obtained those works of art, gold and riches from things like the Crusades and basically stole most of them from other places. Yes, they should share since none of it really belongs to Them anyway.

    No. The Vatican is a private organization, with it's own rights and even it's own country (The Vatican is a separate country from Italy). The property owned by the Roman Catholic Church cannot be forced to be made public any more, and really much less, than you can be forced to make your bank account information, social security number, or anything else you own public.

    Let us go back as far as 70 A.D. when the Roman army under General Titus invaded the City of Jerusalem. The objective has not changed much from then to the present. The objective was to take control of the temple. One can ask what does the Illuminati have to do with it?

    Since then many counter-reformations were organized with the intent to infiltrate the protestant churches, to the present Council of Churches.
    
    The Illuminati, Freemasons, The CFR, The Trilateral Commission, The Knights of Malta, many numerous branches are all traced back to the present day Vatican, the present day Roman Catholic Church!
    
    Once again the intent has not changed one bit, Power!!!
    
    The Roman Catholic Church has become more sophisticated behind the mask of religion and tradition.
    
    So to answer the question....
    It would be a very bad day for the Vatican if their records were opened to the public.
