Mental Illness VS Demonic possession

In Jesus day, he expelled many devils from possessed people. Do we today, confuse demonic possession for certain forms of mental illness? I believe there is a difference, but... what would you say is the difference? How does one know the difference?

When Jesus cast out Legion from the stranger on the sea shore, the text says he was "lunatic". Being written thousands of years ago, we have a long history of this assumption. My question is not a new idea, rather a very old one.

you're crazy, demonic possession is an archaic ritual or belief (like alot of religion) It stems from times when mental illnesses were not fully understood like today. People have died from so called exorcisms, when it was most likely some mental

I think you have made an important distinction here. Mental illness is unconsiously being associated with evil because of the rampant mass murders. Mental illness is a sickness, and evil is distinctive and exists without mental illness.

Thanks, JMatsilv. When one's experience is so different from what most people expect, it takes courage to speak out in a global forum. And your experience makes sense with my experience and approach (see link to hub under SidKemp below).

That's not Schizoprenia, that's called Sibling Rivalry.

In recent years studies on Sibling Rivalry has been taken more seriously. Your sister wants to Play The Game Of Life by her own rules, terms and conditions, and it does not include you.

its also dangerous 2 blame on a demon rather than treat an illness. People r easily inspired, exorcism was all but dead til the exorcist came out in the 70's, then a rash of possessions went across america and the world. its used as an excuse
