Perhaps for fear that the person may not be able to handle the truth. For instance, you may lie about how much you paid for a coat. Since, you don't want them to give you a long lecture about how a coat they bought at a bargain (say $50) is better than a 100% virgin wool coat for $400. So, sometimes, we lie to cause less headache for ourselves and others. There is no need for people to know about how much you value certain things. For instance, people don't need to know if you have gone to a restaurant and spent $100 for a romantic dinner. It could have been your anniversary. If they ask where you went. Sometimes, you may say a local chinese restaurant. And they ask, so was it cheap? I know I know.... there are people who ask these question. Trying being brown. lol. And you say, yeah it was so cheap that is why we went out. Otherwise, why would you really go out. Ah, I hate these sort of answers, buts its alot easier than hearing about how they never go out. Always eating healthy at home. Mind you, these are the same folks are in front of the tv all day long. Hmm. Healthy, I beg to differ. But, I keep my opinions to myself.
In fact, I have people who tell me that they never bought a microwave, because they always eat fresh and cook all the time at home. It might be a good thing. But, 45 minutes of that.... a little too long. However, I do feel bad when I lie about these things. I try not to bring up such topics in the first place. Thanks for the great question.
