   What is God's role in a natural disaster?
   
   I was reading a story about Oklahoma tornado victims. One survivor said "God saved us." Unfortunately, other people died in the tornado. Assuming all the people were equally God-fearing, did God save some and sacrifice others? Did God cause the tornado in the first place?

   God permitted the tornado. If all the people were equally God fearing, the ones who died were the most blessed, because their time and purpose on earth was completed and they are now enjoying a cessation of our earthly struggles and a peace and joy and fullness of understanding that we can only imagine. This earthly life is as close to hell as some people will ever get, and as close to heaven for the reprobate. Those who credit God with saving them are correct; they still have things to learn and/or do on this earth.

   God has the ability to cause natural disasters (As He did with the great flood).
   
   Is He responsible for the storms we face in this day and age? I can't answer that.
   
   As for God saving people, it could be a possibility He saved them all, only that some He had to save in death (first death). We will never completely understand the works of God because sin is present in all of us. The closest we can come to knowing how God works is to read the bible and flee from our sins so we may become closer to God.

   I am a Christian, believe in God, and believe God created the universe/earth/life. However, I don't think every storm is God carrying out an agenda. Storms are just a natural occurrence in the natural world He set in motion. That which makes life possible can also cause death. Death itself is a natural part of life. Life feeds on and survives on death. Death is necessary and cannot be avoided, no matter how it comes about. Though I do believe He will intercede where He sees fit.
   
   We in this age tend to equate death as bad and life as good because we can only see this side. Even that wasn't always the case. We don't know what awaits behind the veil we all will someday pass behind. We fear the unknown. Once each of us dies only then will we realize it's just as natural as everything else.

   I am not sure about this; however, it is logical to conclude that we are looking at this from the wrong angle/lense/perspective. We seem to think death is an end; therefore, when natural disasters claim lives we think it is sad or merely catastrophic or perhaps bad luck or even-evil or is it oddly evil.
   Perhaps if we were to think of untimely and unfortunate events that do indeed claim lives (especially of loved ones) as another step in our journey and perhaps a quantum leap in Faith, then maybe, just maybe it would be at least more logical...

   The most forgotten cause of turmoil is what Satan can do. There are 3 sources possible causes of destruction on man. 1) Natural disaster related to the environment that can be intensified because of the depths of our sins. This the curse on the earth set forth at the time of the fall of Adam and Eve. 2) Satanic delusions that causes men to destroy men by hate and fear...."He comes to kill, steal and destroy".  3) Those events that are purposefully called out in scripture such as in the Book of Revelations represent direct acts by God for specific judgements.
   
   I would say in answer to your question, God's role is minimal for natural disasters. What I would look out for are the unnatural disasters which are detailed in the Book of Revelations that is a direct result of God's wrath on men.  The Bible say the whole earth "groaneth" meaning it is under stress and we are subject to it's stress movements.  No one knows the day of his death in the general scheme of life, so we all need to be ready even when praying! And it is said in scripture that all are appointed to die once. Death is a part of life. And why some are saved and others die is subject to God's grace.

   What's God's role?  All the love in those guys and gals who swarm up to help those who are injured or sick; those who care enough to be there and assist.   If God is Love, and love is what these people are giving out through their actions, then it is plain that God has at least one role here.
   
   I think what you might be insunuating is that God brought about the disaster.  Maybe.  Maybe not.   If God is everywhere and in everything then He/She?It  is in the mind and hearts of human kind.   There is a belief that people actually bring about these events by the combined effects of the Collective Unconscious's being filled with anger, rage, violence and the like...and maybe, just maybe, there is something in that.

    Things happen because God orchestrates everything. You and me will never understand the reason behind it because every person is not what they seem on the outside and only God knows what they each deserve, according to their actions in this lifetime or the last.
