That's exactly what I'd like to know. I actually wrote a hub about that subject. Religion is a scam to me and it always has been. And the rules that we're "suppose" to live by have no place in this day in age and no one follows them anyway, not even religious people.
I think your question is posed wrong. It is like the argument that guns kill. In reality guns do not kill, people kill. Or we could say money generates hate. Money is just a tool used as a medium of exchange, yet many murders and injuries have been the result of that exchange. It's not the money it's the people involved.
Religion does not generate hate, people generate hate. People have the freedom to choose whatever belief system they want, so if a person wants to align themselves with the White Supremest that doctrine will produce the manifestation of hate. But it all came from the decision of the individual.
I have some sympathy for the position put forward by The Rising Glory, and I might say something similar if religion was only ever presented to adults, but it isn't. When a child gets hold of a gun and hurts someone, we don't really blame the child. They were exposed to a weapon they had no way to understand. Considering the MASSIVE amount of indoctrination of children by religion, I don't think the "religion does not generate hate" argument holds up so well.
Taught intolerance is a weapon no kid should ever be exposed to and can be an extremely difficult mindset to break free from.
T0 me all children are indoctrinated - It's called learning. So who do we want to indoctrinate our kids? That answer would be different for each person. What one person calls intolerant another person calls right. Who sets the pace?
I'm being honest in saying that I chose this as the best answer because it agrees with my own understanding. Indoctrination is the instilling of an opinion or belief whereas teaching is the imparting of knowledge and facts such as 1+1=2 for example.
I agree with you that "the rules that we're "suppose" to live by are not followed by "religious people" But I don't agree that "the rules that we're "suppose" to live by have no place in this day in age". Christianity is a Faith in a Living Person and a totally moral Creator . The problem with relgion it is not based on Faith but on performance. Perform well enough and we please God (who is as fickle as we are). But believe in Faith based on Jesus paying the price of Sin for us, and we're not under the pressure of a performance based system. It's the performance based system that's the problem - which has nothing to do with Jesus Christ. And I will agree it includes a lot of churches.
Religion does not generate hate. The egos of the world generate the hate. If God is love then God would be love. I do not know where people get the idea that the are doing God's work if they are doing anything other than loving life of all lvining beings. This is true for all religions.
It is said that people have the ability to choose, if that is true then it does not even matter what God is, it matters what they will choose to hate or to love. Using God or the Devil as an excuse is what many people tehnd to do, then they want to claim how great this idea of free will is supposed to be.
Some days I would rather not have a free will and let God take full control then I would have the right to credit God for all my actions "good" or "bad".
Besides not all traditions claim God is all love. This may also be part of the issue.
Best wishes

Is it Christian to show disdain and hatred toward those of other religious beliefs & races?Sometimes it is confusing when someone professes to be a Christian and then they are so filled with hatred toward those whose viewpoint they do not share. Likewise it is unsettling to sit among those who...

Is religion taught from birth a form of brainwashing? If you teach a child from birth a particular religion, is this not brainwashing? Would that child discover that religion on their own if it's something they weren't taught?

This is my theory, it inspires hate because none of us really fully understands G-d, and we cling on to that little shred of our actual understanding. When somebody threatens to confuse that understanding we get protective and combative. I will try."GOD" as a word inspires hate because...
