Yes, exactly. I think there is a worship of success and perfection and a fear of making mistakes; and as you point out, it is through mistakes that we learn. A bit of irony there.
Thomas Edison tried dozens (I can't remember how many) materials before finding a material that would work as a light bulb element. Those first 'mistakes' were steps forward!
