What did jesus meant when he said "Thou shall not kill"?

Does this refers only to humans or to all living beings? I mean should we NOT kill other living beings as well?

ALL Christians are non-vegetarians and so you ALL are DIS-OBEYING Jesus by killing and eating them (animals, birds)

You are commiting sins by eating non-veg.

The word Kill is not the same meaning as Murder.
Thou shalt not Murder. a commandment
Murder is between Humans and selfish motives. and a sin.
Kill is for anything that lives, food is to be killed to live, its Gods design while this earth is still in existance.
If you Kill a human its murder, if not for protection.

Killing or murder is the same action to take a life away . Because God put you shall not kill people say murder it is OK , If God would of say you shall not murder people would of say killing is OK.

no kill and murder are not the same thing.   kill means to take a life .  murder means to take a life for no legitimate scriptural reason.

Well you're taking the word killing too literal. In the new testiment Jesus explains that to kill doesn't only mean killing someone literally but it also means to tell lies about them, you know like gossiping. To kill can also mean making another christian fall in to their temptations by flirting, or dressing in a provocative way.

and what you are talking about is way off context because back in the day people killed animals as a sacrafice to God. Animals were put on this earth to feed us. Even Jesus ate meat so that has nothing to do with what Jesus was saying.

i hope this helps you out and maybe reading some of the gospels like mathew, mark, luke and john could help you too becuase Jesus does break down the ten commandments further because the religious leaders would ask him a lot about the ten commandments because they felt he was following them

Animals were not put on this earth to feed us.  They were put here to experience life, just as we were.  What a horrible attempt to justify human beings selfishness.  God would be ashamed at our lack of respect for other living beings.

Biblical killing in the old covenant was distinguished by lawful and unlawful.  In the new covenant, Yahshua has brought in a new priesthood.  The basis of this Way, if charity, forgiveness and mercy.  There is no lawful way or reason to kill another human being in true Christianity.  Even dying on the pole, He said, 'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."  As Christians, we are suppose to know what we are doing and have no more reasons for behaving like Cain ever again.  We are our brothers keepers.

"Thou shalt not kill" is in reference to murder (the taking of innocent lives), not in reference to eating food.  Even animals kill to eat and are killed to be eaten.  This is God's design.  An example of murdering an animal would be to kill it for sport and not for food.

Truly, the eating of animals started after the Great Flood.  God told Noah in Gen 9:3-4, "Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant [prior to the flood].  Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood."

In regard to eating only vegetables as a matter of faith, consider Rom 14:2: "One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only."

The physical body is temperary and was made to "cease to exist".For any further questions or concerns my door is open.

In some cases (Jericho) they even killed all the livestock - although usually they carried these off as the spoils of war. There were instances, also, where Canaanite women taken 'to be wives': a euphemism for being repeatedly raped.

We should lead a life without intentionally hurting others purposely, be it humans or animals.Jesus said thou shall not kill meaning we should not kill anybody, not even our enemies. We should forgive everyone. Only then we shall achieve wisdom. Animals on the other side never harm us until in trouble. But we keep on killing them or torturing them to fulfill our selfish needs.

Remember his words as he died,  "IT IS ACCOMPLISHED"  meaning the spirit in now saved through his death and whoever delieves in him shall never die! (in spirit)

First of all, Jesus didn't say that, it was stated in the 10 commandments, which deals with humans. Also, Jesus ate fish, which may not be considered actual meat, but I just wanted to point that out. Another thing - God killed animals to give their skins to Adam and Eve right after the Fall when they realized that they were naked (Gen. 3:21). This does not mean that we should go around killing animals, just that it isn't a sin because humans were made to rule over the earth and everything else in it. No animal is made in God's likeness, but humans are. We are to be the stewards of the earth, but we have the choice to use animals (for food and warmth (skins)) for whatever we need. I've been a little broad, but I'm just trying to prove my point. Sorry if I came out a little mean.

Not true. We kill every day, whether its the microbes in the air and the things we trample upon. It is impossible not to kill. Sri Krishna taught His greatest summon on a battlefield. With a knife I can cook food, cut fruits and flowers, and again I can use it to stab someone. Is it the fault of the knife?
The whole of the spiritual life is based on Sincerity of Purpose; Purity of Intent. Just imagine, I am sure that you will agree that God is inside your heart. If you were sent to war and was forced to kill, do you not think that a present God would know why you had to? Watch your motive, for He would know this also.
Actions by themselves have no power. All actions rely on the vibrant awareness of the force of God. Use it with the spirit of Surrender and above all with love in your heart. By all means try to be a vegetarian, it greatly helps. Still, if you did some research, you would find many meat-eaters with good hearts, and many vegetarians with cold ones. Peace.

I believe you are referring to the Old Testament commandment "Thou shall not commit murder". There are different words used for what we, in English may only have one. We say "I love my spouse" and "I love pizza"...in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, there are more than one word used to express love. This is most dramatically seen in Greek when talking about love. Agape and Philo- both translate to love in English, but the first is Agape and means "lay down you life for love" and Philo is brotherly love.  In the Commandment in question it is the word for Murder and not generic killing. Killing can mean killing an animal for food, which was always given the "green light" by God, whereas Murder was always condemned.

Properly translated, Exodus 20:13 commands, "Thou shalt not murder." We hunt to feed ourselves and others, and wear leather boots or gloves to protect what is living with what is dead. Mankind has been given dominion over wildlife and domestic animals with the responsibility to be a good steward of all resources. Thus, we must not waste or squander these resources.
Admittedly, I sin often…and I do not live up to the example and guidance that Jesus provided…but I choose to eat meat and doing so is not a stumbling block for Christians who understand Scripture. We may choose to eliminate meat from our diet or include it.
As for sources, the commandment to which you refer was given to Moses in the Old Testament, and was not from Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit is telling me to comment on this question which will "appear to be in total opposition" of the carnal mind.  When Jesus said "Thou shall not kill," He is referring to the Holy Spirit!  Eph 4:30 says "And grieve not the Holy Spirit..."  I Thess 5:19 also says "Quench not the Spirit..." Jesus works as the Holy Spirit in ALL believers and when you either "grieve" or "quench" It, you are interfering with the Works of Jesus!  Therefore, killing!

I Cor 8:12-13 says "But when ye sin so against the brethren, & wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. Wherefore, if food make my brother to offend, I will eat no meat while the world standeth, lest I make my brother offend."  Rm 14:20-21 also says "For food destroy not the work of God.  All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offense. It is good neither to eat meat, nor to drink wine, nor anything by which thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak."  (I wonder why some take WINE for the Communion?)  Therefore, "if eating or drinking" of certain things (although "ALL THINGS INDEED ARE PURE") causes thy brother to stumble, "ye sin against Christ."

I love animals but in Gen1:26 God gave dominion over all of them!  It says "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, & over the fowl of the air, & over the cattle, & over all the earth, & over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

Read Acts 10:9-48.  God told Peter to "Rise, Peter; kill, and eat,"  While dreaming, there descended a great sheet with "all manner of four-footed beasts of the earth, & wild beasts, & creeping things, and fowls of the air."  Peter responded "Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything common or unclean" and God told him, "What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common."  The meaning of the dream was that "God is no respector of persons;" (v. 34) but also indicates that anything that God has cleansed is not common or unclean; therefore, animals are to be eaten.

Now concerning killing other human beings, the Holy Spirit will "teach you all things" (Jn 14:26).  If one is filled with the Holy Spirit, he will "undoubtedly" know the second greatest commandment in the law which is found in Matt 22:39 "...Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."  Who kills oneself?

    Consider: Rm 12:18;13:1-10, Mk 12:13-17; I Cor 14:33; Heb 12:14 unless it contradicts God's Word. (Acts 5:29)

Killing is a necessary part of life. If you want to get super literal, you kill your salad with your stomach acid.

Yes, he meant not killing animals as well as humans. Plants were put here to feed animals and humans, so that is acceptable but killing animals is not, this includes insects.

Jesus was a vegetarian, a fact they conveniently left out of the Bible among other things. He told his followers not to sacrifice animals. Many of his teachings were left out or taken out of the Bible for the purpose of controlling the masses.

When you eat flesh, the flesh retains the fear (adrenaline) in the meat from the killing. You have heard the expression you're what you eat. Why do you think the majority of mankind live in fear . . . because they eat it everyday.

Hey blue! Happy to see you again. Is it time to talk about the girl Jesus yet?

Funny thing about consuming flesh... You take on some death too. A little at a time. All death is suicide you know. One way or another.

what difference does it make what Jesus ate?   Jesus was  not  a vegetarian, he  ate fish for sure and probably other meat.       Scripture gives us everything edible to eat.  Animals were  not food until after the flood.   Jesus was a nazerite

First of all, I am a Christian. A true believer of God, Jesus and bible teachings.

Cain killed Able. God put animals onto this earth for us to fed on if we choose to. Animals like sheep, were sacrificed to honor God and to show  true faith.

Killing means to kill another human being. Killing also means to kill an animal although that would be for food. Therefore, to kill refers to the destruction of a human life. One of the Ten Commandments ...thou shall not kill. I do not think God would have created animals if they were not to be "killed" for human consumption. To kill a human being is something more severe, final and a breech of biblical teachings.

      GOD is a "HEART" GOD!
As Manatita said "Watch your motive!"
SPIRITUALLY speaking:  ANYTHING that "causes one's brother to stumble" (Rm 14:13-23; I Cor 8:13) is also "killling" which leads to "eternal death!"

God did not put animals here to feed us.   He gave as food AFTER the flood.  the 10 command were given to israel, not us.   Jesus gave us 2.

Rm14:2-3 "For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is WEAK, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; & let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him."
      Rm14:12-23!

Adam and Eve were given plants and vegetation for food. Animals was not a choice for good until after the flood of Noahs day. Read closely the book of Genesis.
The law not to kill was given to Isreal or Jews as Gods chosen people to start . but that changed global after Jesus death that all national groups could be included as a new chosen people. We today do not kill our neighbor's based on love for them.
Food to survive during the flood included animals based on vegetation had not grown on earth due to the flood water's when the Arch settled on solid ground.
    Animals are precious creations too.
But are not equal to human value even though they are loved.
Jesus sacrifice of his death was for humans not animals.
