What are some good films about the Bible or Biblical characters?

I have seen the Gospel of John and Paul the Apostle which I really enjoyed. Do you know of any similar movies?

I love one night with a king.. the story of Esther.    I know there are more movies but that is the only one that popped into my mind.

Interesting, just saw Gospel of John yesterday for the second time.  Prior to that, I viewed Paul the Apostle.

Most of the movies from Lube Productions that were aired on Ted Turner's network , mainly during the 90's, are good.  It seems strange that Ted would have had or promoted such a thing, knowing his background, but yes, they are good.  In Amazon, type in Joseph (The Bible Collection) and The Bible - Jeremiah to get two great films by these producers.  Joseph stars Sir Ben Kingsley and Jeremiah stars Patrick Dempsey.  I like the one on Solomon as well, but there is too much purely speculative material in it concerning the Queen of Sheba.  Nonetheless, I've watched it time and time again because of Ben Cross' great portrayal of Solomon.  I do like Ben Cross!

Of these, Joseph is probably the most biblically accurate.  The producers of this film came up with a clever plot device to help explain why and how Potiphar dealt with Joseph, his house slave, after Joseph was accused of raping Potiphar's wife.  Sir Ben Kingsley plays Potiphar, and the character comes off pretty favorably in his hands.

Joseph 1994-1995 version.  This is a great film, better than all the other Joseph films I have seen.  Also, Jeremiah 1998 version, The Apocalypse 2002 with Richard Harris tells about John's vision in Revelation and the events surrounding that time and St.Paul 2000 version all very good films I have seen.

A T.V. series rather than a film, I'd recommend Penn and Teller's BS Episode about the Bible! It's for free viewing on YouTube and potentially enlightening!

"The Greatest Story Ever Told" was made in 1965, but is still relevant. The "Robe" with Richard Burton and Victor Mature was made in 1953. This film has production, costumes and a cast that is unmatched by today's films. Naturally, being made in Hollywood, it has some historical inaccuracies and someone has a wrist watch on in one of the scenes. In this case, the book was not better than the movie. The movie was just as good.

"The Greatest Story Ever Told", "The Robe". "The Ten Commandments","Ben-Hur","the Gospel of John","Joseph", " Life of Jesus", "The Passion of the Christ", were all films that I have enjoyed over the years.

From the Old Testament, "The Ten Commandments" is a very good representation of the story of Moses and it also has one of my all time favorite actors, Charlton Heston, in it.

From the New Testament, "The Passion of the Christ" is my favorite. While it is graphic, I think it does a good job of getting the message across.

Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ", it's powerfully moving. Depicting Christ's redemptive work, going to the cross.

The story of King David. Very good movie and even a new one on the book of Genesis that I saw was pretty awesome!

My favorite has always been The Ten Commandments. For years I've watched it every Easter.
