   Always follow them but be aware of the real world around you.
   
   Stay grounded but don't lose touch with your inner hopes and dreams because they transfrom your world in the one world you'd like to wake up in....every single day.
   
   Flexibility is an extra component to use in order to follow your dreams even if it takes a longer time to realize them.

   Compromise. Something will always come up when you do not expect it. Because of these surprise moments, you might not be able to achieve your dreams, especially if your dreams are not realistic. However, you should always attempt to achieve your dreams.

   There are no absolutes in life so you follow your dream until you no longer can.  Goals can be scaled down so, in conjunction with your photo above, they can be met one step at a time.  As someone else mentioned, life should be a journey and the things you think are tying you down today may very well be the things you need to lift you to the next step later on your journey.

   I think anyone bent on following his dreams would never compromise. Those who compromise are the ones who don't really have a clear dream to follow. Anyone who has succeeded pursued his dream no matter what.
   
   It seems my strongest dream was to have a family and a spouse to love me more than life. It was a dream so strong and dear to me that I could not imagine it otherwise. I got exactly that. My weaker dreams never really came true because I compromised.

   Sure, why not?  I had a dream at age 16 to open my own dance studio someday.  This did not actually happen until 3 decades later!  I never gave up on my dream, always daydreamed about what it would be like; I collected dance items to put into the 'studio' of the future, etc.   I had taken dance courses throughout my life, but began to study the teacher curriculum.  And, one day, between nursing jobs, my husband opened the paper and announced that a local studio was for rent.  The rest is history...
   
   Thanks for asking...this was a fun walk down memory lane!

   I envisioned to be a counselor and now I am a counselor and still studying, learning more and more to be much better one than now.

    definitely don't compromise.  I think a lot of people hit obstacles and then they start to question themselves or their ideas/dreams and then when feelings of powerlessness take over it can become too easy to lose sight of your goals.  I think we should make the most of the circumstances we find ourselves in, but never lose our determination to live authentically and follow our own dreams.

    Follow your dreams as a guideline, but meander around whenever circumstances of life demand it. Dreams are by essence somewhat unrealistic so you cannot be too rigid in your expectations of them becoming entirely true

    What type of compromise?
    
    I suggest we should never compromise in ways that hurt ourselves or others, or that lessen our character. And if our dream is a creative one, we should never compromise our creative vision.
    
    Yet focusing on just one dream and abandoning all else is not right for everyone. Can I dream of being a writer, and a happy husband with a happy wife, and financially successful? What is the balance or compromise that allows me to achieve all three? There's no harm in taking a dose of reality!

    This depends on what your dreams are.  Sometimes people dream of things that are beyond their control.  If your dreams are in your control, lets say your occupation for example, then I say follow your dreams.  At the same time understand that the paths that you have to take to get there can seem like compromise.  They are only compromise if you give up on the dream and stay on that path that does not take you there.  Sometimes the path is not always a straight shot.

    I tried following my dream, but I didn't get far.  But that doesn't mean I gave up.  It means that the path to my dream isn't a straight line; it means I'll try coming at my dream at an angle instead of dead on.

    It probably depends on the dream. It's very romantic to say "I have a dream, and I'm going to make this happen", but when that dream involves the persecution or genocide of a group of people, then maybe it's a good idea to hold back.
    
    I guess my point is that there isn't a black and white answer here. Dreams can be anything from tiny goals to massive aspirations, and I know it's wonderful to say "follow your heart", but don't leave your head out of it.
