If we have a soul, which makes up our personality, how can our personality change?

After accidents sometimes people become brain damaged and their whole personality completely changes.. how can this be so if there is such thing as a soul?

how can a  soul have a personality?  Souls don't possess vivid imaginations or desires to appease or pretend to be in order to fit in.   If anything the personalities that are created constantly battle  "the soul"

In a nutshell...there r those who have been given the ugliest, shortest & foulest end of the stick & regardless of, they rise.  Instead of succumbing to all they've "experienced", they rise because their loyalty lies in all they possess insid

Why then, if someone is strongly religious and follows the ways of god, do they lose their soul or essence of themselves when they have an accident?

Now you're treading areas I refuse to tread, maybe you should consult your pastor or minister, etc.

The way I understand it deep down inside, our soul is our core and this essentially does not change. You know, it's that familiar, comfortable feeling like being in a worn out comfy pair of jeans. What does change is our conscious which is a separate part and which is our front. This is where memory, function and behaviour is affected.

I saw a documentary last year where people who'd had organ transplants had developed changes in their personalities even memories which matched habits or traits of the deceased whose organs they'd inherited. I don't know how valid that is but that's what those people claimed.

I don't think it's a question of that our soul makes up our personality insomuch as it influences it. I think our personality is a separate entity from the soul, and as a powerful spiritual influence, our soul has a certain modicum of control over it. But I don't think it's part of your personality. This is, however, solely my personal opinion and is highly debatable. (:

The question how you are posing it is basically saying that one’s soul is the essence of who we are.  The soul giving rise to the personalities we have, the way we encounter obstacles, our outlook and demeanor.  And I guess while I could see that being true, that your soul could help to shape you into the person you are, I think there are also other factors that can shape a personality as well.

Examples of which could be the way in which your parents raised you, your schooling, your friends, all of those external factors that come at us and test who we are every day.  There is also our environment; our entire makeup has been shaped by the environment in which we live.  We have the ability to see, hear, touch, smell, taste, run, walk, jump, climb; all of those being skills that were fine-tuned over time to allow us to succeed as a body living in this environment.  With our brain being the ultimate machine that ties all of that sensory knowledge together and allows us to process it, make sense of it, and ‘think’ about it.

Damage to that brain can have a huge impact on the person that we are.  Likewise someone who goes through cancer, becomes paralyzed, suffers an emotional loss, all of things are going to have impact on the person you are because those are enormous tests to our physical well-being, and we are not just a soul, we are also a body.  Your personality could be altered by your environment, could be changed, modified, but your soul isn’t going to go away because of those things.  I guess the question at the end of the day is really who wins?  The environment, or the soul?  Which is stronger in shaping the other?

If the soul is from God then.. why is it not stronger? Why are people damaged so that they are unable to continue worshiping God, don't recognize their family, become psychopathic etc??
      Insightful comments though! Thanks
