A good answer and little wonder it was chosen as the best, especially the seconded part about why the rich should pay more, as it looks to me that it is the infrastructure which enables them to be rich.

I agree, the Internal Revenue code can only be really used by the wealthy. In 1986, Congress took away the middle class deductions.
Wage earners are the only ones that pay the TAXES of SS and Medicare. Most of the wealthy are not wage earners.

I agree it is not the taxes but how well they are used that matters. In the UK there is a lot of fuss about welfare but public sector pensions account for 50% more ( from memory) government spending than social security spending.

More services from the Nanny (socialist/communist) State? Why not let the private sector take care of the services, and keep lower prices through competition. When the government gets involved costs go up, quality down
What socialist/communist state? We're far from either of those in the U.S. It doesn't matter to me who provides the services. I was just addressing the part about obsessing over paying taxes. It doesn't bother me.
Hey, lone77star, I feel that you too are being lulled into a false sense of security when you believe that competition will keep prices lower. The competition soon becomes a conglomerate and no competition, only monopoly in the long run.
