This concept is way out of date! The end of the world, the Apocalypse, Doomsday, The Hour of the Grim Reaper, Judgement Day, whatever you want to call it, was invented in the days of superstition and ignorance. I'm afraid the idea caught on and has lasted until now! No doubt it will remain alive and kicking into the next century or two or three.
How ironic to think of the end of the world and relate it to the idea of eternity! I could never work that one out. The end of time versus timelessness.
Science tells us that the end of the world may occur as a natural kind of cyclic phenomenon, for example a new ice age, or climatic change......or the earth being hit by a large asteroid. But to think about a God or a Being or a Demon mightily smiting everyone down because we've sinned is not a thought I can entertain.
If the end of the world does come in the next three or four weeks I'd be happy being hit by a supersized asteroid. It would be spectacular, quick and painless for most of us....I hope!
Thanks for the question. Have a lovely Christmas....we've billions of years to go yet!
