For the most part I do believe that religions can and should remain separte from politics - the separtion of church and state argument covers this one for me. However, people's religious beliefs always seem to influence their thoughts, actions, and beliefs in other areas of life - including politics. For this reason, I would dare to suggest that the wall that separates religion and politics not be so tall and forbidding that these two important parts of our daily life are totally cut off from each other. Rather the separtion should be more like a backyard fence, which allows the two to "talk over the back fence." This allows people to vote and pass laws based in part on religious beliefs and keeps politicians tuned in to the way their voting public feels on certain issues.
