Do You Practice What You Preach?
I've always found it ironic that certain (emphasis on certain) religious people will tell me about how disrespectful I'm being to their faith (at one point I was just talking about evolution) and then spend the next few minutes bashing my lack of faith. I, naturally, didn't miss out on the opportunity to tell these creeps that they're going to hell for hypocrisy (which is against almost every religion in the world)...
But I came to wonder, do you guys feel like you practice what you preach?
us guys - do possess compassion for your lack of comprehension.
I pray everyday for your eyes to be opened to the greatness of the creator.
But, I came to wonder - will you guys ever stop harrassing those who have chosen the path of righteousness?
Translation: atheists are blind and close minded but I wonder when they'll stop harassing people who follow my own beliefs. Hypocrisy. If god exists I doubt you'll get in unless you plead forgiveness for that one.
I consider what love would do in every situation, I practice empathy and sympathy and compassion and identification, kindness, I notice some one alone in the corner and try to make them feel welcome to the group, I recently gave my good leather coat away to a homeless man in cold weather because it was all I had with me though I was sorry I didn't have my cheaper denium jacket with me to give away instead since I can hardly afford to replace the leather, I don't give physical pain to animals, fish, birds, or people, I avoid harming bugs... but I don't claim to be a good person. It takes more than that to equal the good deeds that some people do, people who cripple or disfigure themselves to save others, people who spend years of their own lives laboring in the mud to help a community, if such people are labeled good people, then I can only label myself a lukewarm person because I can not put myself in their catagory... I think too many people consider themselves a good person because they dropped a couple of bucks on a homeless person and cried when they accidentally ran over a bunny... it takes a bit more than that, it takes a bit more than simply being not a bad person.
I "STRIVE" daily to do what is pleasing to God. Do I fail? Of course. Am I still saved by the grace of God? Of course. My soul is what is saved for eternity, not this flesh that will continue to sin as long as I am breathing. Anyone who says they can go through the day without sinning is lying to themselves. God knew this all to well. That's why he sent Jesus Christ to burden all sin for mankind.
I think practicing what you preach is very difficult given our complex times. However, I do try to practice what I preach, but I never preach religion. I don't think it is my place to do so. To me, being religious means doing the best you can to live a moral and ethical life, not forcing your views down other people's throats.
Yes! And if I fail, I acknowledge it, ask for forgiveness, and position myself to do right once again. I VERY much hate hypocrisy. It goes along very well with judgement. Both are wrong. We can disagree with others but it should be done with mutual respect and in love. What you speak of is, I think, on of the biggest things that turns people off to certain religions. I think God is grieved over this--this is not representing who He is at all. Good question!
I came here planning my answer then read JT's answer and I cannot say it any better than he did. So ditto on JThomp42's answer.
I try to practice what I preach.. I don't always get it right, But I try..
I mostly practice what I preach; first I think it, then say it, and my action follow. Getting the actions to follow the positive things I say and do is a daily exercise, but that is how people can developed good habits.

As long as you are a good person, does it matter what religion you believe in?

Do you think you are a good person?Do you feel you are a genuinely good person at heart? Why do you feel you are? Is it your actions that make you feel this way? How you live your life? Or your religious affiliations.

I was reading a threat started a while ago (and since then discontinued) about 'the ideal human' and was intrigued by the responses. I really enjoyed the topic and was wondering what kind of input some of you hubbers have as far as virtues are concerned.Do you believe you are a good person? If so,...

Why is being a good person in today's world, something people chose not to be ?

If I’m lucky, no one on Hub Pages remembers me. But, I’ve never been lucky so I am back to apologize to the fundamentalists. I told myself I left in disgust at the forums; but the truth is I was disgusted with myself. I had never been exposed to some of the beliefs as shared here and,...

What is it that makes you a good person? Is it that God told you to and you fear the fires of hell? Is it something you even understand about yourself? My reason for trying daily to be a good person, the best I can be, is that I want to live in a better world. If I am ever to realize this desire...
