   Have you ever wonder why Jesus was limited to only 3 1/2 years for his earthly ministry?
   
   When one understands the four Gospel's it clear that Jesus knew exactly how much time he had to minister on the Kingdom of God.  He was limited on how much time he would have on this earth. As if He knew down to the exact minate when he would died on the cross. He minstered until His dying breath; " Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." So, can only one explain why He was given only 3 1/2 years?

   I feel because he accomplished what he was purposed to do. I have this to be true with people in general. There have been people in my life in which I loved deeply and when they died I felt robbed and yet in retrospect when I reflected their lives and experiences I found out that when they fulfilled their purpose they left. From a spiritual standpoint when a spirit or soul accomplishes that which it was in search of, when it finds that home or thing which it seeks it goes on. For my own mother I think this to be true, she was lovely loving person that sought love and in the end she found it, but she also accomplished that which she was purposed to do. Many have benefited from her purpose.

   I see it very differently. Your additional note does not include the last part of the story, in which he rose again. He is still alive.
   
   "Limited" is a word I would not apply to Christ Jesus.
   
   As I see it, he came to share God's love. We - all human beings (let's not makse a distinction between the Romans, the Jews, and even all the disciples who abandoned him at Gesthemane), rejected him out of fear and hatred of that divine love. We killed his body.
   
   But that was no limit for Him. In the land of the dead, he raised the dead to Heaven. Then he came back on Easter, and was seen by those who were ready to see Him. And then he ascended to heaven.
   
   And now Christ Jesus travels freely through all the worlds. Wherever we go, he has been there already. Whenever we look, we see his face. Whenever we need a gentle touch, we feel his hand.
   
   He is risen. He is alive. And his ministry is never-ending.
   
   I speak this from my own experience - he visited me this morning in my dreams.
   
   And by the way, I am simply a person like any other. It would be a mistake to say that I am, or I am not, a Christian. The Creator of the Universe and His son do not care for such distinctions, as far as I can tell.

      Sid Kemp- Thank you for your answer. However I thought my question implies Jesus earthly minstry while He was a human being. I realize Jesus spoke many times after His resurrection to the desciples and much later to Saul/Paul.

      Graceinus - Did Jesus stop being a human being when he was resurrected? Do we stop being human when we go to heaven? I don't think so. Christ Jesus remains fully human and fully Divine, unimpeded even by death, and so can we be, in him.

      JThomp - Respectfully, also, we disagree. "Fully human, Fully Divine" is an aspect of Christ Jesus that is not only temporal, but he is eternal. The eternal son of God is human, and as available to any one of us as a close friend in the room.

      Sid.. You are thinking of the "great comforter" the holy spirit in which Jesus left behind. Jesus is deity sitting at the right hand of God.

      JThomp - no, with respect, I'm not. The Comforter is with us. But so is Jesus. I hung out with him for an hour or so this morning. One day, you will see. His face is unmistakeable. Until then, the Comforter is with you.

   I think  three and half years was the the time Jesus needed to complete his purpose on earth, that is, to redeem mankind.
   
   I like the beautiful picture of Jesus in John 13, when in his role of a servant, he washed his disciples feet. John 13:1 says, "Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world, and to go to his Father ..." Further, verse 3 says, "Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God ..."
   
   What I love about the passage is that Jesus knew his roots and his destiny. So he took his role to serve and redeem mankind to its full course. Finishing his course, took three and a half years.

   He had come to fulfill prophecy, in which he did. As he said on the cross, "It is finished." Meaning sin and the devil had been defeated on Calvary. Praise God!!

      the girls- Thank you for your answer. I am not questioning God's timing or His plans. I am wondering if there is any direct scripture(s) or verse(s) that might explain it that I am not aware of. I do welcome any answers on this subject.

   Well, He was clearly ministering when he was a boy and His parents 'lost' Him in the Temple, so He ministered a lot longer than 3.5 years...and He continues to minister to this day, here on earth...soooo......

      krillco- Yes, as a boy Jesus was at that temple for three daysand then add the 3 !/2 years. This time is recorded in the bible. Unrecorded teaching of Jesus is very possible in His lifetime. To my knowledge His ministry ended at the cross. Thank you.

   Hi graceinus,
   I was wondering about the same today too. I have searched and so far did not find any prophesies about Jesus's ministry duration timing. Although there are some events in the bible referencing 3.5 years. I am not sure if they are anyhow symbolically related or not. However...
   Today my understanding is that even though start time of Jesus's ministry was predicted accurately there is nothing about its duration. Perhaps he was trying to prolong his time on the earth asking some people not to tell others about the healing/miracle. check this out:
   Mark 1:43-45
   43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning:
   44 “See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
   45 Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.
   
   Please hear me right. It is not a solid statement rather it is food for thought.

      NikosM- The two witnesses described in Rev. 11 are also given 31/2 years. I don't know if they are connected, but it sure makes one wonder. Jesus is also describes in Rev 1:5 as a faithful witness. So, connection or not it makes me wonder. Thank you.

      Have you checked out Daniel's prophesy about 70 weeks? There is a lot of arguments about it. But there are people who explain how math works out.
