Jesus said, "Ye are all gods." What did he mean?

Jesus answered them (the Pharisees), "Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?" John 10:34 Taken in Context, was Jesus being facetious... perhaps clever? Was he saying that we are all gods with a small g? Was he simply throwing the Pharisees words/laws back at them...?

Hi Kess! So then Jesus was simply pointing out the error of the Pharisees ways by using their own law against them. Nevertheless, are you also saying we are gods (created in His image?)

Hi Glynch1. It sounds like Jesus was quoting Jewish law because his time had not yet come (to die), but that he was also making a point about his relationship with the Father. Thank you!

Jewels, thank you for your comment. My mom was into "New Age" and I have studied some of it myself. The thing that didn't work for me was that the focus was always on me and my works. At this juncture, I am studying faith in the Creator...

Lady Guinevere. I just read those verses (from NIV). I am struck mostly by verse 24, which seems to say our works and idols amount to nothing. The things we do come from the power of God. Thank you for replying so quickly.

Not in "deity" as GOD, but we have authority over thgs in earth (Gen 1:26; Ps 115:16); therefore, we are (small "g") gods!
