   What is meant by organized religion?
   
   What do you mean when you say you don't like organized religion and it didn't work for you? It's a common catch phrase that is used a lot these days. I want to write a hub on it. What say you, peeps?

   Organized religion, from my understanding, is a religion with a formal structure, hierarchy and written holy scriptures. Religions that fit this description are of course all the major religions of the world. Take Catholic Christianity for example. There is a Church, with an organized structure and hierarchy, a holy scripture, formal rites or practices, and defined sets of beliefs or doctrines.

   Well, to me, there is a big difference between Christianity and Religion, as Christianity to me means having that personal and intimate relationship with our sweet Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and that is it. I know that is not your question, what the difference is; however, to me, when I hear "organized religion" it means where those belief systems and rituals are in place and all gather together to worship in an organized/formal manner, and where there are rules of man and often an official doctrine in place.  I do love to gather together with other Christians to worship in an organized manner, but I am free to worship Him when and where I so choose.

      Hello sister faithreaper, yes, absolutely there is a huge difference between Christianity and religion. I wonder if maybe those against it mean they don't want to change their lifestyle and follow Jesus.

      Yes, I wonder that too.  A lot of it is that they have grown up in and just following in what has been the tradition, and they are comfortable in such traditions maybe?  Bless you, Faith Reper

   Organized religion is a church system based on man-made doctrine with rituals set in place.  These doctrines do not have to be Bible-based but they can be Bible-based.  The rituals may be Bible-based as well, but they also can have a spin of man's opinion on them or not.
   
   Some religions even have their own bible. Some organized religions did not form until after the 1800s, 1900s, etc.  These are religions that most likely have their own doctrine and are not based on the Holy Bible.
   
   But Christians have organized churches as well.
   Assemblies of God, Southern Baptist, Missionary Baptists, Church of God, etc....these are organizations.

      BuffaloGal, That is kind of what I always guessed. I hear so often - I don't like organized religion, it didn't work for me. I've always perceived it as "I don't like church and all that includes, and I don't want a spiritual life.

   Organized (aka mob mentality) religion, as some of the others stated is a structure based system that sets up and adheres to a set of rules (doctrine) that may be loosely based on scripture, but mostly used to push a specific agenda and message. Most organized religions are egotistic and push that their way is the only way and is the best way to do things.
   
   Christianity itself is a personal philosophy that is only rooted in the bible and the belief in God as well as the works and example that Christ set out as a guideline on living the best possible life that you can for yourself.

   it is simply Any group "church", that is led and controlled by any thing, person (s), rules,  other than the Holy Spirit leading where He wants to go in every meeting/ function of the group.
   
     any denomination.   
   Any non denominational "church" that draws people to themself and  believe that are THE church. 
   Any group of believers that promote ANY doctrine that is not supported by scripture taken in context.
   
   and everyone  can add more to this list.
