Why Do Atheists Love Religious Forums?

All over the Internet you'll find atheists flooding the religious forums instead of atheist forums.  Why do they want to participate so much on forums about a faith they do not accept?

I have studied this myself, and it seems that there are two primary reasons.I would assume that in many cases, it's a combination of both.

First of all, to understand the teachings of Jesus is to also understand that many so-called Christians are hypocrites.Especially those who blindly support U.S. policies that are in direct opposition to his teachings.Namely greed, war, pollution, and theft of property.People like throwing rocks at hypocrites, which I have personally found to be cathartic.

Secondly,I believe that many who identify as atheists are actually agnostics who are searching for answers, because they want to believe in something.Even though they may raise arguments against spirituality and religion, I think many are hoping that someone will convince them otherwise.

Yes, many who call themselves Christians are not for they do not truly love and God's Word tells us that those who do not love, do not know God. I just wonder why it appears that they seem to be so hateful in the forums?

If Christians kept their faith in their churches, atheists probably wouldn't bother. But they don't. They are busy trying to make our kids imbeciles who think creationism and evolution are equivalents. They are busy calling people abominations and passing laws which prohibit them from the same freedoms they enjoy for themselves. They prattle about alleged morality then teach ignorance of sexuality. They distort science, invent bogus science, or outright lie about global warming and state grandly moronic statements such as "only God can destroy the world". They try and tell me that I can't make medical decisions pertaining to my own body...etc., etc., etc.

Such ignorance and hocus pocus demands resistance. That, of course, isn't true for all atheists on all forums, but certainly some of them. Others probably just get tired of living under the thumb of someone else's ridiculous delusions. It can be oppressive.

If you study the history of the Catholic Church, I was raised Roman Catholic by the way, you will discover atrocities that shroud its past. With its emphasis on the "one true God", its leaves out the tolerance of multiculturalism.

Often, religious forum headings invite those who don't believe as they do by making a claim about them. Those sort of "asking for it" titles should expect comments from the "outsiders".

That said, atheists seem to be transitioning from a "I don't care much to talk about it" attitude to a, "They're trying to take over the world" mentality. (Of course implying that Christians forums are more often visited by the atheist than others.) Which is true isn't it? I mean, if you didn't like peas and my goal is to get you and everyone else to eat ONLY peas, wouldn't you want to know what I was up to so you could protect your tomatoes?

Besides, an atheist forum would be rather short wouldn't it? "I don't believe in god. Do you believe in god? No...okay. See ya later." There's no book to discuss. No scriptures to dissect. Discussing atheism with other atheists is rather boring unless discussing other religions and how nuts they are.

The real answer I'm afraid is that people love confrontation on the net. It's easy to find and you're safe to say whatever without getting punched in the eye! This question could apply to gays/straights, blacks/whites and any other contradictory groups that can cross paths on the net.

I believe they are searching and that is a good thing. I just do not understand why they must be so hateful or appear to be full of so much hate while they are searching for answers. God does tell us in His Word that those who profess the name of Jesus will be hated by those who do not yet know Him in a personal and intimate relationship.

Also, I do not consider myself to be "religious" but just love the Lord with all my heart, soul and mind.  Blessings, Faith Reaper

My personal opinion, is a quote from Shakespeare: "Methinks you doth protest too much."
The more an atheist attacks Christians, and the more angry they become, the more I believe they are not at peace.
When I was a member of Toastmasters, an international public speaking organization, our President was an atheist.  Her best friend, in our group, was an agnostic.
Nobody had a problem with her being an atheist.
However, she continuously brought it to everyone's attention, over and over again, that she was an atheist.  I wondered why she had to keep reminding us of that?
All this being said, I can sincerely understand why atheists resent Christians.  I believe we deserve it...because of our behavior at times.
When I first became a Christian I acted like a pious fool.  I wanted so much to impress God, that I became so heavenly minded that I was no earthly good.
I've learned, through multiple mistakes over the years, that it is not our talk, it's our WALK.  We don't need to do anything, except be the person God created us to be.  Herein lies the magic word: BE not 'do'.
Thank you for this excellent question.  Blessings, Sparklea smile

Good comes to me through unexpected avenues and God works in myriad of ways to bless me. Just some words I picked up on the web and it means the essense of life to me and I'm not religious, just a Christian. Thanks for your comment.

As cre8tor pointed out, a lot of topics on religious forums discuss atheists and, therefore, it should be expected that atheists would want to comment. Your question, for example, got my attention because it mentions atheists in the title. As an atheist myself, I feel it is important to represent my side of the argument when the religious discuss non-believers.

Another thing to consider is that most atheists are 'in the closet' about their non-belief. Christianity is the dominant religion in the United States, and revealing that you are an atheist runs the risk of being ostracized by a community. If you don't believe it, just try to imagine an atheist running for political office. The internet, providing relative anonymity, has allowed a lot of previously silent atheists to speak their mind, which is why it seems like there are so much more of them now.

The last thing to consider is that atheists who go to religious forums to 'troll' people, do not represent all atheists. Most fly under the radar, without stating their beliefs or arguing with theists. But, like with religion, the extremists are always the most visible. So, if you don't want non-believers judging Christians based on the actions of the Westboro Baptist Church, then we would appreciate that atheists not be judged based on the hostile internet trolls.

Good point, MT. Well said. And many in office don't believe either. Obama is a perfect example of a fake Christian. Once in the White House, he has condemned the teachings of Christ. And then he got re-elected.

Atheist people went threw a hole bunch of hypotheis, pros and cons and actually being curious about religion but they seem to find it hard to rely with most of what has been said and written in the past. Maybe because they got doubts of if it is the right answers or simply they are the ones that could have written a part of these ( books ). Books that are to me a bit outdated threw time but still relevant ... It will sound a bit paradoxaI for the blogger below me speaking about confrontation when confrontation is automatic reaction when we think or KNOW that we are right on something XD
I could keep going on and on but naww ... you just spotted an semi atheist BECAUSE WE CANNOT BELIVE IN NOTHING BECAUSE NOTHING IS SOMETHING . ^^

Atheists want to participate on these forums because these forums are inherently of interest to the self-proclaimed atheist. One who is actively an atheist, by definition, is one who takes it upon his or herself to change the minds of people who they perceive to be suffering under the delusion of a false and dangerous belief of a religious nature.

Atheists can't stand the fact the they have an opposition which is actively working to persuade others that their position which they identify with, that of atheism, is ridiculous and absurd. When the religious successfully spread their beliefs or strengthen the beliefs of those who already believe, the atheist feels as if what they stand for has been compromised to some extent.

There's a sayin' of old, "nearer to the church further from God" but there's also this saying.....From the Light of the universe that I AM, From the Love of the universe that I AM, From the Power of the universe that I AM, From the Heart of the universe that I AM. That my friends, is only possible with God.

Your paragraph was so beautifully worded. What you have stated encompasses not just Christianity but the universal experience of Spiritualism. In my words Spiritualism is suited for the individual, with  emphasis on sound mind and body.

You must recognize, religious forums are a "target-rich environment" for points and counterpoints. I suppose there are as many motives as there are those who explore the forums…some to look for points they hadn't yet considered, others to convince themselves that the faith or logic of religious people can easily be debated or explained away/

    Ego!

Ego is the source of all evil and conflict in the world. This is why Yeshua told his disciples to immediately leave those who did not accept the message. To try to argue with them only strengthens ego, the source of our spiritual blindness.

Ego is the attitude of those who clamor to be first, yet they shall be last, because ego is physical and vulnerable. Humility is the attitude of those who are last, yet they shall be first, because they are of spirit and only spirit can return to heaven.

God created us in His image and likeness and He is not Homo sapiens.

Atheists are denying their own true self -- the Holy Spirit, within -- and that is the only unforgivable sin. Forgiveness is the repair of spirit and such repair can only be done if you admit that you are spirit -- a child of God.

Regrettably, too many so-called believers also lead with ego and trap themselves in this world. They try to be "first," but they will be last.

I dont think they are... It's probably exaggerated in your own mind because when atheists and religious people start gong back and forth it usually turns into one big crapfest of arguing, which is always easier to remember than times of peace smile

Well, I have to admit as an aetheist myself this would be the first religious discussion I have ever participated in and I'm not into religious forums of any kind. But, I expect that religious people can really rile aetheists as they don't seem to be logical people and many probably can't walk away from potential catfights!

The reason is this: Atheists feel passionate about their own beliefs and they love to question and or debate the author's viewpoint when the subject matter is concerning global Christianity.
