Is There Any Reason That I Would Want To Go To Heaven?...

Is there any reason other than...the other choice is Hell?  I have no desire whatsoever to go to such a place that is described in the Bible as Heaven.  To me it is just the lesser of two evils.  I couldn't imagine worshiping some master everyday for eternity. That's perpetual slavery...to a master who did all those unjust merciless things depicted in the Bible. How Grim.  I could never feel comfortable.  Why do people convince themselves that they really want to go to such a monstrous place?

Is there? If you feel fulfilled Getitrite, then perhaps there is no reason to. Is you life peaceful, happy and satisfied? Where then is the need to speak of this? Do you feel something missing?

Come to think about it, why even the fear of hell? Are you ok? Is there a problem? Many questions here. I have every confidence that you can answer them yourself. Much peace.

Manatita, Did you ever think that I'm just looking for answers to see what kinds of fallacies will be used to justify a desire to go to Heaven. I need input from people, to see if anyone has any logical answers. Everyone wants to change the question.

I think there are, no, not I think... There are many reasons why you should want to go to heaven and they all are so much more meaningful than the narcissistic reasons you sight for not wanting to go there...however with the attitude you have you won't have to worry about it because the reasons you cite for not wanting to go to heaven are exactly the reasons you will wind up in hell. The people who get to go to heaven are the ones who “get right with God” by beginning a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ.

    How about:

I want to go to heaven to see people i miss, and continue relationships with the people I love.

I want to go to heaven so I can be free of the fear of death.

I want to go to heaven to see my father. http://www.housetohouse.com/HTHPubPage.aspx?cid=8188

There will be plenty of room in heaven. Our heavenly Father will make provision for all who will be saved. On the saddest of sad nights Jesus said, "In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. . . . And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also" (Jn. 14:2,3). The beauty of heaven is beyond compare.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" (Rev. 21:4). "And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there (Rev. 21:25).

But wait just a minute getitrite, who are you kidding? You don't believe in God, you don't believe in Heaven or Hell and so certainly you can't even begin to understand or study or examine things you don't even believe exist and it is easy to see from your rhetoric you have no desire to understand Christianity or you would never pose such a stupid question comparing Heaven to evil, condescendingly implying there is no reason to want to go to heaven.

Maybe you should rethink your behavior instead of putting your narcissistic ignorance and condescension on full display as it is not becoming. You may think you are the God of your life but you will have a rude awakening when it ends.

Lybrah, the immorality of eternal, flaming torture should be enough to convince anyone that it's false. Our conscience tells us Hell is wrong. If there were a Hell, then no human being could ever be as cruel and sadistic as the god you describe.

You are confusing damnation with salvation; there is a big difference and God has told us we cannot even imagine the wonders of what He has prepared for us for He loves deeper than anyone and if we would give good things to our children just think how much more He will give to His, Him master and owner of all things. We will be part of His Son Jesus and have all that He has.  We couldn't imagine ever being any better off. When you have all you could ever want or imagine I don't think it would be so hard to praise and be thankful. It is free and Jesus died for us just so we could have it. Time will be up soon. If you interpret something incorrectly, then you can have all manner of interesting misconceptions about a spiritual state of being.

You don't understand the Bible (and neither do most people -- believers and non-believers alike), because too many interpret it literally.

The first five books of the Bible (and possibly more) were written in code by Kabbalists. In fact, 15 years ago, I discovered the Kabbalistic "Tree of Life" matrix embedded in two chapters of Genesis.

So, your assessment of a "monstrous place" is a delusion.

    What is heaven?

Heaven is a state of being without self-concern and having love and compassion for others. When you do this, then you are already worshiping Love (God). Every other belief you have about this topic is a gross misconception.

You don't have to wait until you die to go to heaven. As Jesus said, the Kingdom of Heaven is within you already.

Those who are blinded by their own Ego cannot see it or feel it.

Heaven is unlimited pleasure, unbounded existence, complete perception and connection to the force which guides and binds the physical universe. Pretty cool, actually.

The real monstrosity is the need to cling to Ego (self-concern), which is the source of all evil and suffering. But the choice is yours.

I don't need to go to Heaven for that to happen. And what makes you think that you will enjoy a life where there is nothing to offset GOOD?

It must be hard to imagine a world of only bliss, but many cultures speak of this place.  You got to let go of this human concept of life.  There is no need for  "bad".  How about only increasing "good". Spiritual bodies are eternal and blissful.

You raise a good question. I do not know many people in their heart who could say they want a master. So I am going to change the word to a Protector or Guardian.

I know that this is in the Christian section and I do not want to be offensive in any way, considering I stared off as a Christian Scientist.  That said, according to different traditions, "heaven" has different meanings, but all of them are better than here.  There are also different levels of heaven, so you may want to consider doing more research about heavenly realms.

I like your question because I had the same quesiton.

Also consider that we may not have our memories of this life when we move on to the next world.  I hope I do not have mine, I want no recollection of this world when I am gone.  Just knowing that there is this much suffering is enough to make me think that this is a hellish world.

There is some good here, but if you study the Vedas of ancient India check out the description of heavenly realms, and even above the heavenly realms, there is the highest spiritual world.

    Well,

    Good luck on your journey

    To tsad, and JT,
At this point your behavior has made it impossible to have a mature civil discussion.  I asked a simple question.  You have no REAL answers, so you, somehow, think the best approach is to attack me, and others who don't share your beliefs.  That's not the way things work in the sane world.
You want to point to the atheist on here as the evil ones, but not one atheist on here has stooped to the despicable level that we've seen by certain Christians. The bar that has been set for Christians is on the floor. Thank you.  It seems all one has to be is arrogant, dishonest and insulting, with absolutely no ability to argue in a civil manner...as long as he can parrot "Goddunnit"  Another reason I don't want to go to Heaven:  Exhibit A.
And what's with all of these outright unfounded  and vicious accusations? Believe me, those are all not true. If your God was real, he would have told you that. The accusations that you have leveled against people are completely baseless, and when the person tries to explain what has REALLY happened, you automatically don't believe them, then go right on making up stuff to support your slanderous irrelevant charges...charging innocent people with doing things that they have no inclinations to do.  That is not the intelligent way to have dialogue.  That just shows that you have absolutely nothing to support your claims.  That's not the atheists fault.  That's the ultimate and inherent result of supporting a fraudulent premise.
You have not convinced me that I would want to go to Heaven, if there was no threat of Hell...and now you just cant accept that you haven't...so like clockwork, the shenanigans ensue.
The personal attacks have reached a level that I feel has gotten completely out of hand...and that has become the focus of this discussion.  And since I am the monitor of this question, my assessment is:

You have nothing to add to this question, so I would ask at this time that you stop responding.

To make a point toward the normalcy of Heaven, Jesus once indicated, in one or more of the four gospels, that there was a possibility, in Heaven, to sit down and enjoy a glass of wine: in other words, 'I will not drink of this wine again until I drink it new in the kingdom of Heaven'.

If there is a possibility of that particular normalcy, who knows what else will amaze us as less than Catholic. Another point is that those who are rewarded in Heaven, are rewarded with an extension of their normal occupations. This comes from several sources in the gospels and epistles.

Farmers might be rewarded with the best farm ever, Doctors with unending patients. Writers may be given a constant stream of exciting inspiration, and explorers will never want for adventure. Who knows? I may be able to continue playing RPGs -- or better yet, Heaven may be an RPG, complete with non-stop one ups, gold, and armor. I may have waxed a bit fanciful, but just how over-the-top I am is anyone's guess.

Your thoughts about the nature of God may have been heavily colored by Catholic tradition. I like to think of it in terms of the 1981 movie: "Quest for Fire". The clan huddled around the flame, kept it going -- their entire posture was one of natural, normal worship. Sure, It burnt things, and that was sometimes as useful as it was destructive. However, in the event of its absence, nothing in life meant more, or was more sought out.

You seem to have an aversion to worship, as if it is an unnatural thing. In the Bible, Jesus cured ten men -- one of them returned to worship him. Here's the kicker: the nature of that man's worship was nothing more, and you can see it for yourself in black and white, nothing more, I say, than the attitude of gratitude.

Some people flee when no one is chasing them. I simply meant to counter your earnest concern with an overlooked fact: that being that worship and praise are human qualities, every bit as common and mundane as anything else you might do or say.
