   Should Christians Tithe?
   
   Did Jesus do away with tithing? Should Christians tithe? Scripture or verse support for answers is appreciated.

   Yes!  Matthew 22:20-21 states that we are to render to God the things that are God's.  Everything we have and are come from God.  Being Tithed is how we render unto God the things that are God's.

      A verse above that say it isn't god's image on the tithe but Cezar's while Genesis 1:26 say all man are in the image and likeness of god, thus, we are to give ourselves in serve of god (John 3:8) and not other man is the meaning of your verses.

   I think tithing is remaining under the law when we have been freed from the law.  But I also think we should give out of the abundance God has blessed us with, which would mean we give more than the law requires.  I also think our giving doesn't necessarily need to be only to our church.  As with all matters of faith, there is no simple yes or no answer.  It requires daily listening to God's voice and following His lead.

   If one is a believer and has membership of church fellowship it would seem appropriate to support that fellowship. I am not sure of hard fast rules for tithing. I agree with what and how Kathleen Cochran shared there is much thought to be given to the matter as well as following one's heart.

      Tim, being a "believer" is quite different from "one in the likeness of the christ" which Christian means.  The man called christ was a wandering messenger as all reborn to his likeness, John 3:8 tells us, Christians are.

   Phoenix, I see where you have studied the Book of Hebrews quite well, so therefore, I know you know this answer much better than most!
   
   I wholeheartedly agree with Kathy!  Hebrews Chapter 7 explain that we are no longer under the law quite well but verse 12 in particular "For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change of the law also."  Although it explains that we "are no longer under the law" regarding tithing, II Corinthians tells us more regarding tithing!
   
   God looks at our "hearts!"  He also looks at our "pocketbooks" as well when it comes to tithing!
   
   I'm so glad this is a "Spiritual" journey and the Holy Spirit will guide us into ALL truth which will guide us into "giving to the needy, not the greedy!"
   
   "God loves a cheerful giver!" (II Cor 9:6-7)

      Yes, Norine, the "Comforter" (John 14:26) will guid and bring to our -- those able to receive it (John 14:17) -- remembrance what we need to do under all circumstances.  Christ followers need no man's constantly directing us.

   By the definition of Christian I get from Acts 11:26 being "one in the likeness of the christ" and realizing the person called christ was a wanderer as he said in John 3:8 all born again man are, Christians would not have anything to pay a tithe from. 
   
   When we look at Malachi 3:10 saying "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house…" and in the law -- I don't remember exactly where now -- it reads that a tithe of the tithe is for the ministering Levite and the rest is for widower and others in need in the land which is why Malachi has that written.  The tithe was what is termed "welfare" for the needy because those days the Religion was the government but to day we have the government collecting taxes for welfare it eliminates the needed.  Plus, the church doesn't use it as it was designed anyway so Christians should not tithe.

      I am sure you are speaking of churches with which you feel you are familiar.  Saying "the church doesn't use it as it was designed" is a broad brush painting of all churches as not being obedient to the intent of the law.  Some are, some will be.

      Yes, Demas, that was the broad stroke of the brush.  There are some "social fellowships" calling themselves church -- the called out from [the world] -- using "some of the tithe" and offerings to help the community's needy.

   I believe that paying a generous tithe is a test of obedience.  Some call it "fire insurance."  God gave each of us free agency and will righteously judge each of us by our actions and our tntent in each instance.  Our 100% is not really diminshed by giving back 10% of our increase year to year.
