Can you think of just one word to sum up life's Purpose?

As in my last question, I will start, bearing in mind that we are all unique and that there may be many different ways of looking at this.

So let's take Balance, for example. Not eating too much or too little; sleeping too much or two little; working too much or two little. Caught you! I meant the inner Balance, Harmony, Equilibrium, Equipoise ... the same things in esoteric language we would call Light or Love or Peace. My Favourite is Love. Your turn.

Consciousness is the essence, so the only purpose of life is to increase: Consciousness.

Yes, my Friend, Consciousness. Nice one. The Western equivalent is Spirit with a capital 'S.' As to increasing Consciousness, my spiritual mentor spoke of this constantly in His 1600 books. He calls it Self-Transcendence. Happy Easter!

I think it is Satisfaction. Each of our action is aimed at satisfaction of self, body or soul. We seek love to get satisfaction. Seek money also for same satisfaction. Seek all material pleasures to get satisfied. Spiritual pleasures also lead to satisfaction. Indulging in prayers, in charity services, anything and everything leads to satisfaction. So it is the main purpose of our life.

Another great answer. Actually Sri Chinmoy teaches that the Soul is not satisfied even after God-realisation. The Soul returns to manifest God in Creation and within this Manifestation, lies Satisfaction. Om Shanti!

Life's purpose is to glorify God and have fellowship with Him.

Yes, LoliHey. I almost went for that one myself. I touch lightly on it when I use the word' Manifestation.' Actually, I've deliberately opened this up, and I'm still waiting for my favourite. You can have another go. They're all valid. Thank you.

No, no, Dear. I like it so much, that I almost went for it, instead of my own examples. But I also have another one in mind. It is fine if you feel this is the ultimate. I like conviction, Lolita. I like to open it up, though, to further thoughts.

Have to say this in more than one word: finding & living one's authentic voice in alignment with the God-purpose.  In essence, fulfilling what one was put on earth to do.  Living one's authentic life fully & passionately.  Making a significant mark on society.  Leaving the world a much better place after one's has fulfilled his/her worldly duty.

Yes, you've answered like a God-Lover, and this is not to dissimilar to LoliHey's. Attunement with Grace would impel you sweetly, to walk this Path of which you speak. It is so beautiful!! Praise, adoration ... glory in the imitation of Christ ...

Man: If I said "I believe GOD is Creator of ALL" what is the verb? BELIEVE!  U see my "works?"
This "spiritual journey" is a mission in which 1 blv so much until action is manifested so world sees!
Unbelief (therefore no faith) produces NOTHING!

Love. I am just an old school Bible reader and my reading of the Bible tells me to Love. Jesus is asked which is the greatest commandment and responds that there are two and gives them which are all about loving God and loving your neighbor. Mark 12:28-34 To me these are the foundation for all other activities and thought.
All of my self awareness and understanding of my nature only takes me so far. I can be in complete oneness with serenity and purpose only when I am feeling and acting out of love.
So for me there can be no higher purpose. All of life's little things just fall into place. The mark I make on others and the mark I make on my world will be one of love if I follow those two commandments.
What could be a higher life purpose?

Interesting question and equally interesting answers!!
    ''Mission''
I always feel that I am on a mission and I have to 'do this' and 'do that' and fulfil all my 'duties' and  'responsibilities' and that too up to my satisfaction. There is always a feeling at the back of my mind that 'time' is running out and I have still so much to do.
Well the answer to your question is 'Mission' but I am sorry I wanted to explain my choice of that word.
    Thank you!

    1. profile image52
Norine Williamsposted 8 years agoin reply to this

Agreed!  We r on a "mission" which should be: "reconciliation" to the CREATOR!
Therefore, it's our duty to "Study" (II Tim 2:15) HIS WORD & adhere to IT for "reconciliation" unto HIM!

    2. manatita44 profile image70
manatita44posted 8 years agoin reply to this

You know I like you a lot, Chitrangada. But this reads to me like 'doership' being in charge. That kind of Mission sounds mundane ... a recipe for 'burn out'. I feel that 'Doership' is for God. I respect your contribution, though. Much Love.

Norine Williamsposted 8 years agoin reply to this

It depends how 1 "looks" at the word "do!"  IF 1 doesn't believe ("do") & have faith ("do"), they haven't fulfilled their duty/responsibility to God!
I  see belief & faith as "doing" or "work." whereas MOST see "doing" as physical!

Interesting notion. Faith and belief are actions. They are what should be called the "good work". I like it.

Norine, Faith is awesome and yes, it always lead to doing; action. But Faith sees itself like the body-temple, an instrument in the hands of Something Higher. The results are not in its hands, but in God's.

      ALL Spiritual!  Gal 5:16-17!
As I teach JESUS (aka Holy Spirit) on HP, I, as Chityrangada Sharan, have much to "do" to activate the POWER of the Holy Spirit in lives!
Not me, but Holy Spirit working thru me (Eph 2:9)!
As CS, "time is running out!"

    "RECONCILIATION!"

    II Corinthians 5:18-21:

(v18) "And all things are of God, who hath "reconciled" us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of "reconciliation;" (v19) To wit, that God was in Christ, "reconciling" the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of "reconciliation."  (v20) Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray, you in Christ's stead, "BE YE "RECONCILED" UNTO GOD!"  (v21) For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him!"

    TAKE HEED!!!

    Blessings

Norine, like Chitrangada, 'Mission,' 'Duty' has led Christians to kill the Saints. 21st Century reconcilation is like making up after an argument; of coming to terms with. To reconcile with God is  awesome though, for righteousness sake. Thank you.

You must have FORGOTTEN Eph 6:10-18!!! We are "Soliders," on a "mission" (spiritually)  in the army of the LORD (Spiritual Warfare)!!!
Why so carnal (Rm 8:8;Gal 5:25)?
This is an ALL SPIRITUAL "mission!"

A fair point and I take note, Norine. The Saints -all of them - speak of themselves as servants, slaves, dust of the dust ... certain not soldiers, neither do they speak of being on 'missions.' But there are different ways, I suppose.

Something that we might achieve, is recognition, when we fail to make love our purpose. That's a step in the right the direction at least, something that is possibly at the right level for our class year!!

So: Recognition, as our primary purpose

(i.e. that the Divine is actually very real...)

Contract, as in "soul contract". All advanced beings know that Love is all, but that is not what you asked. Life's purpose is on a little lower level than pure love. Whether others believe it or not, most of us are here because we made a contract with a higher power to live out our lives for a certain purpose or purposes. Our purpose can be as simple as making sure to provide a body to propagate our species, which is a noble purpose in itself. Our purpose may be to bring down energies of love and light to assist in the elevation of human souls to the 5th Dimension.
When a person dies of a dreaded disease, our thoughts are "how tragic," but the heavenly soul of that person may have agreed to live a short life to bring attention to this disease and help humanity to do something about it. Susan G. Komen is a great example of this. She brought the world's attention to breast cancer, once considered only a woman's disease and neglected.
And then we have people who are born with truly noble purposes like Mother Theresa, whom I have no doubt is a real saint, not just a figment of the church's imagination.

    Destiny....
Our Purpose is tied into our destiny, and we all should try our best to fulfill the destiny we were given from the start....

Yes, nice answer. I feel it leads to the goal or purpose. Destiny is sometimes unspent like fate.  So, for instance, we may have to carry on in another life. Still, a wonderful answer. Thank you, Marc

Some very, very nice answers. Oztinato and Eric have both said the same thing but Eric explains well. It seems a tie really, but I could only chose one. Some others are commended like LoliHey, Buildreps, Venkatachari M. Grace was close to living in harmony with God's Will.

My Teacher said it was the greatest and Christ also said this. Unconditional Surrender to the Will of God (Allah)

Somehow I think they go together, Love and God's Will. The Universe came out of Delight (Love) Lives in Delight (Love) and at the end of its journeys close, it returns to Delight (Love).
