Are Horoscopes and Astrology Controlling Your Life?

Updated on December 1, 2013

Horoscope

Introduction

Let us ask this question. Who is in control of your life, God or the Stars? When we consult the horoscopes, eagerly expecting guidance and forecast of how our day will turn out, we are placing our faith in the stars, and that choice will be in control of our lives. Is this true and have we forgotten the Word of God?

During ancient times, people thought the pagan gods were in control of their lives. They were wrong and so are the modern day superstitious people who believe in horoscopes.

Astrology

Astrology, Planets and Stars

Astrology is the belief that planets and stars can affect a person's life and astrologers have the skill to predict events for people based on the continual movement and phasing of different planets and stars in the universe. The assumption that there is a relationship between planets and events in the human world.

The western world refers to horoscopes based on astrology to predict future events. The time of a person's birth is based on the position of the sun, moon, and other planets, Venus mars and Saturn. Other cultures such as the Indians, Chinese and Mayans have elaborate systems developed for predicting events from the astronomical observations.

The claim by astrology that the movement and position of the stars and planets affecting people and events on earth have been rejected by the science community. There is no logical explanation and evidence to support this notion. Predictions based on astrology have been proven wrong and therefore does not contradict key aspects of biology and physics.

The science community has rejected the positions of the stars and planets from affecting people and earth events, which astrology claims to control.

What is a Horoscope?

The theory of a horoscope is to predict the future of a person's character. The bible forbids divination, sorcery and mysterious acts.

Horoscopes, astrology, deviation and sorcery oppose biblical teaching. The word of God will advocate wisdom and guidance. We are to continue to trust God and pray for understanding, wisdom and guidance.

Deuteronomy 18:10-14

10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritualist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you. 13 You shall be blameless before the Lord your God. 14 For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the Lord your God has not appointed such for you.

Trust in the Lord only

God's people are to obey His word only and trust Him. We are to have faith in God only and trust that he will direct our paths. Consulting horoscopes and entering divination is a direct rejection of the word of God. We are directed to trust God's will for our life, even though we might not be able to forecast events. It is all about faith and trust.

Leviticus 19:31

31 ‘Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.

Jeremiah 27: 9-10

9 Therefore do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your dreamers, your soothsayers, or your sorcerers, who speak to you, saying, “You shall not serve the king of Babylon.” 10 For they prophesy a lie to you, to remove you far from your land; and I will drive you out, and you will perish.

Two-Week Summary

An experiment spanning over a period of two weeks to determine if horoscopes are true and reliable, were found to be useless and of no value.

During this review two-zodiac signs, Pisces and Aries were analyzed on a daily basis. Five different media channels were consulted, including printed newspapers, magazines, internet outlets, all offering free horoscopes as part of their service. The daily predictions were recorded and compared for similarities between the different media channels.

The findings after the two-week period determined that all five sources were not even remotely familiar with their daily predictions. It appeared that most of the forecasts were based on planetary movements and the predictions either indicated fluctuations in emotions and ranged from the moods of the planets and their alignment.

Conclusion

Therefore, faith or belief in anything other than God's message is a misplaced trust. We need to remember that God's kingdom has not changed. The modern world should be on the guard against pervading attitudes of society.

Ephesians 5: 6,7

6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them.

Proverbs 3: 5- 6

5Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

And lean not on your own understanding;

6In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He shall direct your paths.
