Book of Daniel in the Bible, End Times Prophecy
Daniel - God's Greatest Prophet
The book of Daniel is the 27th book in the bible. Daniel provides the most detailed description of major events of the "End Times." God the Father allowed Daniel to see the world we will be living in very soon ( Daniel's seventieth week) as we approach the return of the Messiah. Daniel's prophecy makes the Da Vinci Code look like pure nonsense when compared to the book of Daniel on end times prophecy.
In order to add credibility to Daniel's vision we need to look at part of Daniel's prophecy that have been fulfilled as recorded in ancient history from around 562 B.C. to Palm Sunday (the day the Jewish leaders rejected their Messiah). Also know as the sixty - ninth week of Daniel. The
Daniel Arrives in Babylon
In 587 B.C. Solomon’s Temple was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar (king of Babylon) and his armies, Judah had been concord and as a result the entire Jewish population had been transferred to a distant northern province of Babylon (northern Iraq). Israel would not return as a sovereign nation until 1948 A.D. Thus the era (time) of the gentiles began we are still living in that era.
The return of Israel as a nation began the count down to the end of this era. Jesus tells us in Matthew 24:32, “Learn this lesson from the fig tree (the fig tree represents the nation Israel) when it’s twigs get tender and the leaves come out, you know that summer is near.” He goes onto say, “ This generation will not pass away until all these thing have happened.” Meaning that the generation that witnesses the return of Israel as a nation will not pass away until he returns (a generation is approximately 70 years). Ironically, the Israelites where held captive in Babylon for 70 years. Read Matthew 24: to get the full jest of this. Note: Jesus backs up Daniel as a true prophet!
The king took some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility. They were taught the Babylonian language, literature and customs. After three years of training they entered the king’s service. Daniel as a young man was among these Israelites.
In Daniel 2: we learn of the king’s dream. This dream troubled the king, so wanted to know the meaning of it. He summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him of his dream. The king was wise, he wanted these men to first tell him about his dream then interpret it. By doing this he ensured himself that he wouldn’t be misled or lied to. The astrologers answered the king by saying, “No one can reveal this to the king except the gods and they don’t live among men.” This made Nebuchadnezzar angry, he threatened to have them cut into pieces and their homes made into piles of ruble.
When the commander of the king’s guard went out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel reasoned with he and the king buying them some time. Daniel returned to his house and explained the matter to his three friends. They began to pray, pleading for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery of the king’s dream. During the night the mystery is revealed to Daniel in a vision. It’s important to note that after Daniel receives the vision, he praises the God of heaven. Daniel 2:20
Daniel Interprets The King's Dream
Daniel first tells the king that no man can explain the mystery he has asked about. Then goes on to tell the king that there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries (the king’s dream - Daniel 2:31).
The Golden Head of the Image
The image’s head symbolized the wealth, huge military and political power of Babylon. This is the first and greatest of the four gentile empires.
The Silver Chest and Arms of the Metallic Image
This symbolizes the second great gentile empire, stronger militarily as silver is stronger than gold, but of less value in terms of wealth and magnificence. The two arms symbolized that this second empire would be made up of two kings.
History records the Medo- Persian Empire about 550 B.C. ruled by Darius the Mede and Cyrus the Great. They raised enormous armies that had not been seen prior to that time.
The Bronze Abdomen and Hips
Symbolizing the third gentile empire, Alexander the Great and his Greek empire (around 330 B.C.). He conquered the entire known civilized word. Again, bronze being stronger but of less value than gold and silver. Alexander the Great was awesome in his military victories, he defeated an army that was ten times the size of his.
The Iron Legs
Daniel interpreted this as being the fourth gentile empire. This empire would trample other nations underfoot with overwhelming military force. Although strong as iron it will be less refined and of lesser value, just as iron has a lesser value then the image’s other metals. His interpretation came to pass when the Roman Empire emerged around 63 B.C.
The two legs represented an empire divided this too came to pass as the empire eventually divided under the reign of Emperor Constantine. Rome was the capital of the western empire, and Constantinople (now Istanbul) was the capital of the eastern empire.
History records the rise and fall of these four empires. Daniel spoke of the last three empires before their rise to power and of two yet to come. We should not take the prophecies lightly for history has proved Daniel’s accuracy.
New World Order
The Image's Feet with Ten Toes Mixed of Iron and Clay
Daniel’s interpretation of this is a revived Roman Empire in the last days, a prophecy that is becoming a reality in our time. We are seeing a preparation for these events which are yet to come. For instance, the formation of the European Union and government's plans to implant a micro chip into every person in the hand or forehead. These micro chips will hold all your personal information. There will be no need of cash or credit cards, identity theft will be nearly impossible. It really does sound like a good idea, right? Or, is this a grand deception that has ulterior motives?
The feature of the two feet with ten toes made up of iron and clay is characterized as the revived Roman Empire consisting of ten nations, some in Europe and some in the Mediterranean. This confederation will consist of strong (iron) nations and weaker (clay) nations. From this confederation will arise the final world dictator of the gentile era, the beast a.k.a. anti-Christ. Note: This kingdom will last only seven years (tribulation period).
What do you think it will take to usher in the New World Order? As a believer, I know this is the direction national governments are headed, some willing, others unwilling but what will trigger this event, you know, make it inevitable? Undoubtedly, it will take a world crisis or a series of small crises leading up the total confusion and then complete catastrophe. Or will a new world order divert catastrophe by creating a false sense of peace and prosperity? Only time will tell.

The Stone Cut Without Hands
This is none other than Jesus Christ, who will smote the image upon his feet and brake them to pieces (Daniel 2:34). The rest of the image in Nebuchadnezzer’s dream came crashing down, breaking up into small pieces and blown away by the wind. The stone then grew into a mountain filling the entire earth. This symbolizes Christ’s return to destroy and replace the gentile empires. He will establish his righteous kingdom of God at the end of this age. His kingdom will have no end. Are you familiar with the Lord’s Prayer? “Our Father who is in heaven hallow be thy name, when thy kingdom comes thy will be done on earth as is in heaven…” There was a reason Jesus gave us this prayer.
This was one of many visions Daniel received pertaining to great empires both past and future. Each new vision gave more detailed information.
Does your curious mind want to know... What, if any distinct elements of end times prophecies have been fulfilled?
Next we can look at Daniel's seventy weeks vision which perhaps is the best known and most widely discussed of Daniel's prophecies.
Jesus Christ the Final King
Daniel's vision gives us a chronological sequence of the ruling kingdoms of the earth leading up to the final kingdom... God's kingdom. There is coming a day when the will of God will be done on earth, that day is not yet but just as surely as the sun rises in the East, that day will come.
The child born unto us in Bethlehem will reign on earth. "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, his kingdom will never end" (Luke 1:32-33). When the angel Gabriel speaks of the term "house of Jacob" he is referring to the natural Israel, not the spiritual Israel. The house of Jacob always refers to the literal Israel. So, Gabriel is saying that Jesus will literally reign on earth.
In essence, Jesus is literally coming back to earth were he ministered, were he was crucified and were he resurrected from the dead. Yes friend, Jesus is going to literally reign on earth and the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord.
Today however, Jesus is an outcast in the world of education, government and secular society.
Allow me to quote from Psalm 2: "Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain (foolishness)? The kings of the earth take their stand, the rulers gather together against the Lord and his Anointed One." Does this not ring true of our educational system, judicial government and society in general? Let me continue with verse 4, "The One enthroned in heaven laughs, the Lord scoffs at them." This is not the laugh of humor, it's the laugh of irony.
The atheists and agnostics make the Lord the butt of their jokes but in the end the Lord will have the last laugh. Continuing with verse 5, "Then he rebukes them in anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying... Yet, I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill." In spite of the atheists, agnostics, fanatic Muslim-ism and the ungodly, the Lord Almighty will carry out His will.
God the Father has made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ. Jesus Christ's reign on earth will begin when "times of the gentiles" reaches its fulfillment. All things in heaven and on earth will be brought together under one King... Jesus Christ.
Is the Current Economic and Political Crisis Actually Prophesied in the Bible?
If so, what are we to do about it? It's hard to piece together all this information in a way that gives a comprehensive picture of what the end times will look like. There is an abundance of so many theories around. And that's why Dr. David Jeremiah has written "What In the World Is Going On?", a unique book that identifies the essential 10 most important bible prophecies.
Learn what the Bible tells us about:
- The oil crisis
- The resurgence of Russia
- The new axis of evil
- The importance of Israel
- The new powers of the European Union
David Jeremiah unashamedly examines and explains the biggest global trends of our day through the Third Lens of Scripture. And his description of Jesus’s unconditional love and compassion for Jews and Muslims is alone worth the read!”
