Book of Daniel in the Bible, End Times Prophecy

Daniel - God's Greatest Prophet

The book of Daniel is the 27th book in the bible. Daniel provides the most detailed description of major events of the "End Times." God the Father allowed Daniel to see the world we will be living in very soon ( Daniel's seventieth week) as we approach the return of the Messiah. Daniel's prophecy makes the Da Vinci Code look like pure nonsense when compared to the book of Daniel on end times prophecy.

In order to add credibility to Daniel's vision we need to look at part of Daniel's prophecy that have been fulfilled as recorded in ancient history from around 562 B.C. to Palm Sunday (the day the Jewish leaders rejected their Messiah). Also know as the sixty - ninth week of Daniel. The

Daniel Arrives in Babylon

In 587 B.C. Solomon’s Temple was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar (king of Babylon) and his armies, Judah had been concord and as a result the entire Jewish population had been transferred to a distant northern province of Babylon (northern Iraq). Israel would not return as a sovereign nation until 1948 A.D. Thus the era (time) of the gentiles began we are still living in that era.

The return of Israel as a nation began the count down to the end of this era. Jesus tells us in Matthew 24:32, “Learn this lesson from the fig tree (the fig tree represents the nation Israel) when it’s twigs get tender and the leaves come out, you know that summer is near.” He goes onto say, “ This generation will not pass away until all these thing have happened.” Meaning that the generation that witnesses the return of Israel as a nation will not pass away until he returns (a generation is approximately 70 years). Ironically, the Israelites where held captive in Babylon for 70 years. Read Matthew 24: to get the full jest of this. Note: Jesus backs up Daniel as a true prophet!

The king took some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility. They were taught the Babylonian language, literature and customs. After three years of training they entered the king’s service. Daniel as a young man was among these Israelites.

Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream

In Daniel 2: we learn of the king’s dream. This dream troubled the king, so wanted to know the meaning of it. He summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him of his dream. The king was wise, he wanted these men to first tell him about his dream then interpret it. By doing this he ensured himself that he wouldn’t be misled or lied to. The astrologers answered the king by saying, “No one can reveal this to the king except the gods and they don’t live among men.” This made Nebuchadnezzar angry, he threatened to have them cut into pieces and their homes made into piles of ruble.

When the commander of the king’s guard went out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel reasoned with he and the king buying them some time. Daniel returned to his house and explained the matter to his three friends. They began to pray, pleading for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery of the king’s dream. During the night the mystery is revealed to Daniel in a vision. It’s important to note that after Daniel receives the vision, he praises the God of heaven. Daniel 2:20

Daniel Interprets The King's Dream

Daniel first tells the king that no man can explain the mystery he has asked about. Then goes on to tell the king that there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries (the king’s dream - Daniel 2:31).

The Golden Head of the Image

The image’s head symbolized the wealth, huge military and political power of Babylon. This is the first and greatest of the four gentile empires.

The Silver Chest and Arms of the Metallic Image

This symbolizes the second great gentile empire, stronger militarily as silver is stronger than gold, but of less value in terms of wealth and magnificence. The two arms symbolized that this second empire would be made up of two kings.

History records the Medo- Persian Empire about 550 B.C. ruled by Darius the Mede and Cyrus the Great. They raised enormous armies that had not been seen prior to that time.

The Bronze Abdomen and Hips

Symbolizing the third gentile empire, Alexander the Great and his Greek empire (around 330 B.C.). He conquered the entire known civilized word. Again, bronze being stronger but of less value than gold and silver. Alexander the Great was awesome in his military victories, he defeated an army that was ten times the size of his.

The Iron Legs

Daniel interpreted this as being the fourth gentile empire. This empire would trample other nations underfoot with overwhelming military force. Although strong as iron it will be less refined and of lesser value, just as iron has a lesser value then the image’s other metals. His interpretation came to pass when the Roman Empire emerged around 63 B.C.

The two legs represented an empire divided this too came to pass as the empire eventually divided under the reign of Emperor Constantine. Rome was the capital of the western empire, and Constantinople (now Istanbul) was the capital of the eastern empire.

History records the rise and fall of these four empires. Daniel spoke of the last three empires before their rise to power and of two yet to come. We should not take the prophecies lightly for history has proved Daniel’s accuracy.

European Union
European Union
Heading towards the New World Order
Heading towards the New World Order

New World Order

The Image's Feet with Ten Toes Mixed of Iron and Clay

Daniel’s interpretation of this is a revived Roman Empire in the last days, a prophecy that is becoming a reality in our time. We are seeing a preparation for these events which are yet to come. For instance, the formation of the European Union and government's plans to implant a micro chip into every person in the hand or forehead. These micro chips will hold all your personal information. There will be no need of cash or credit cards, identity theft will be nearly impossible. It really does sound like a good idea, right? Or, is this a grand deception that has ulterior motives?

The feature of the two feet with ten toes made up of iron and clay is characterized as the revived Roman Empire consisting of ten nations, some in Europe and some in the Mediterranean. This confederation will consist of strong (iron) nations and weaker (clay) nations. From this confederation will arise the final world dictator of the gentile era, the beast a.k.a. anti-Christ. Note: This kingdom will last only seven years (tribulation period).

What do you think it will take to usher in the New World Order? As a believer, I know this is the direction national governments are headed, some willing, others unwilling but what will trigger this event, you know, make it inevitable? Undoubtedly, it will take a world crisis or a series of small crises leading up the total confusion and then complete catastrophe. Or will a new world order divert catastrophe by creating a false sense of peace and prosperity? Only time will tell.

Have you ever found a site where one can read news articles, the type you don't hear about on mainstream news networks or in the local newspapers, uncensored so to speak. Where you can get a non-bias opinion on the state of the globe, it's a news source that you may find interesting...

The Stone Cut Without Hands

This is none other than Jesus Christ, who will smote the image upon his feet and brake them to pieces (Daniel 2:34). The rest of the image in Nebuchadnezzer’s dream came crashing down, breaking up into small pieces and blown away by the wind. The stone then grew into a mountain filling the entire earth. This symbolizes Christ’s return to destroy and replace the gentile empires. He will establish his righteous kingdom of God at the end of this age. His kingdom will have no end. Are you familiar with the Lord’s Prayer? “Our Father who is in heaven hallow be thy name, when thy kingdom comes thy will be done on earth as is in heaven…” There was a reason Jesus gave us this prayer.

This was one of many visions Daniel received pertaining to great empires both past and future. Each new vision gave more detailed information.

Does your curious mind want to know... What, if any distinct elements of end times prophecies have been fulfilled?

Next we can look at Daniel's seventy weeks vision which perhaps is the best known and most widely discussed of Daniel's prophecies.

The coming King
The coming King

Jesus Christ the Final King

Daniel's vision gives us a chronological sequence of the ruling kingdoms of the earth leading up to the final kingdom... God's kingdom. There is coming a day when the will of God will be done on earth, that day is not yet but just as surely as the sun rises in the East, that day will come.

The child born unto us in Bethlehem will reign on earth. "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, his kingdom will never end" (Luke 1:32-33). When the angel Gabriel speaks of the term "house of Jacob" he is referring to the natural Israel, not the spiritual Israel. The house of Jacob always refers to the literal Israel. So, Gabriel is saying that Jesus will literally reign on earth.

In essence, Jesus is literally coming back to earth were he ministered, were he was crucified and were he resurrected from the dead. Yes friend, Jesus is going to literally reign on earth and the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord.

Today however, Jesus is an outcast in the world of education, government and secular society.

Allow me to quote from Psalm 2: "Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain (foolishness)? The kings of the earth take their stand, the rulers gather together against the Lord and his Anointed One." Does this not ring true of our educational system, judicial government and society in general? Let me continue with verse 4, "The One enthroned in heaven laughs, the Lord scoffs at them." This is not the laugh of humor, it's the laugh of irony.

The atheists and agnostics make the Lord the butt of their jokes but in the end the Lord will have the last laugh. Continuing with verse 5, "Then he rebukes them in anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying... Yet, I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill." In spite of the atheists, agnostics, fanatic Muslim-ism and the ungodly, the Lord Almighty will carry out His will.

God the Father has made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ. Jesus Christ's reign on earth will begin when "times of the gentiles" reaches its fulfillment. All things in heaven and on earth will be brought together under one King... Jesus Christ.

Is the Current Economic and Political Crisis Actually Prophesied in the Bible?

If so, what are we to do about it? It's hard to piece together all this information in a way that gives a comprehensive picture of what the end times will look like. There is an abundance of so many theories around. And that's why Dr. David Jeremiah has written "What In the World Is Going On?", a unique book that identifies the essential 10 most important bible prophecies.

Learn what the Bible tells us about:

  • The oil crisis
  • The resurgence of Russia
  • The new axis of evil
  • The importance of Israel
  • The new powers of the European Union

David Jeremiah unashamedly examines and explains the biggest global trends of our day through the Third Lens of Scripture. And his description of Jesus’s unconditional love and compassion for Jews and Muslims is alone worth the read!”

What are the 7 signs that point to Christ's return? One sign is; the world being full of deception. Another is far-flung corruption in government... "The New World Order" - Final Sign Before Jesus Returns... "The Rapture"

I just wrote a hub regarding the end times and also one on the rapture. I am amazed that the things discussed five years ago are still happening today and yet we are even closer to the very end of time. I do believe the rapture will happen but I am not sure as to whether or not Christians will endure a portion of the tribulation. There are various arguments in both directions. I enjoyed the breakdown you did on the book of Daniel. I too believe it is where the answers lie. Revelation is a difficult book to understand and people sometimes scoff at it. Thank you so much for your insightful read as it compares five years ago to what we are you living right now. Isn't it amazing how God works and how close we are to his return.

Thanks for the positive comment Skye2day. As for the rapture of Christ's church, I tend to have a pre-trib viewpoint. I pray that believers will escape the Day of the Lord, by His grace.

The argument between pre & post- tribulation believers has been going on for the past 150 years.

Michael Thank You for writing this awesome hub. This is by far one of the best interpretations of Daniel I have read. It is like a breath of fresh air. The Holy Spirit of God does move on you brother. Praise God for your works for him. This was allot of work and you did a splendid job!! Well done good and faithful servant.

You wrote this 3 years ago and more evil and wickedness has come to pass all pointing to the tribulation.

It is a wonderful blessing that our salvation is not dependent on our belief in the rapture. I see many commented on it. As for me I would love it if the church was lifted out of here but I agree to be disagreeable. Based on in depth study I think we will be here during the trib. God needs his church to stand against the antichrist (s) The good news is Jesus says do not fear!! He will return and we will be with Him in all of eternity. Praise to God.

God Bless you for writing this amazing hub. I think in the days to come many will be coming over for a read!! Sweet Jesus lead them to the truth! Voted up all the way. Keep em coming michael. I joined your rank of fans. I hope to see you around the neighborhood. Love in Christ Jesus. Skye

Of course you are entitled to your opinion Wes and it is true that Christians have been killed, martyred and oppressed since the Crucifixion itself. Jesus said that believers would go through trials and tribulation and suffer persecution for his name's sake (Mark 13).

However, I think you should consider a couple of scriptural points. One being Christ's return will happen at two separate events. The first event describes how believers will be caught up with him in the clouds (rapture, which means to be caught up). You can find it in 1 Thessalonians 4:16.

The second event comes at the end of the 'great tribulation'. Christ returns in glory as the rider on the white horse, seen in Revelation 19:11-21.

Another point to consider is in relation to the term 'great tribulation', which is described by Jesus as a time never seen before and a time that will never be seen again (a time of God's wrath, Daniel's 70th week, Jacob's trouble), which are all terms associated with the Great Tribulation.

At this moment we life in an age of grace but there is a time, which has been established by the Father's own authority when this age will end and His wrath will begin, the rapture is the event that signals this change of the ages.

I might add that it's not a matter of being good enough but rather a belief that he's coming for those who are eagerly watching for him.

Wes Brown 3 years ago

When the Christians who believe in the rapture are suddenly caught in the midst of the tribulation there will be a lot saying uhoh....There are Christians being killed around the world today for their belief in God and what makes these people who teach rapture they are so good that will escape it ? lt's being taught by those who haven't studied their bible history enough ..ln my oponion.

Thanks for your kind comment Michele. Its good that your heart fills with joy, the Spirit of Christ is working in you.

As for the future, we need not worry. The blessed hope of Christ's return is the helmet of salvation, which protects believers from discouragement and utter hopelessness. It is your faith in Christ Jesus that is the secret of victory!

This is an amazing hub. I just stumbled upon it today, but have been thinking about it for a very long time. For some reason, I keep thinking that things will change this year, now that it is 2012. In November perhaps, of course I do not know for sure. I love God and know he loves me. But, I keep thinking I will never be older then the age I am now. As for my thoughts on God and Jesus, my heart fills with joy. I love God, because God loves so many of us. We are not perfect and never will be, but God sent Jesus Christ His only Son. Jesus was not forced to die on the cross, but He did of His own free will. Then rose from the dead three days later. If it were only a story, since the bible was written by men, then men would have found the empty tomb not women.

Ok, I am going off the subject. Please forgive me.

You have written a wonderful hub.

Thank you for sharing it with us.

Wisdom, I agree with your comment, we should be obedient to the Word of God (Jesus) unto death if necessary. Although dead no longer has a hold on us, praise God!

God's word is full of promises, one of which is "The Blessing". There is a positive side to denying one's self, because we are Christ's we are also Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise. The promise that we will be a blessing!

Make the promise of God's word your foundation for daily living, the final authority for every decision and action. Then you will see that the blessing is able to operate by flowing from you to bless others. God created us to function in this manner.

Saying only what He says continually give us the victory over this fallen natural realm (Babylon's system). As we boldly make the profession of our faith in His promises, He will give the opportunity to be a blessing and share its power with others.

wisdom 4 years ago

hi, I was thinking about your comments and how your looking forward to the rapture. As I know a lot of christians are. I just wanted to say that there is nothing in the bible that says we will not have to go thru persecution. And we need to love Jesus enough that if called to we will lay down our lives for him. Matthew 24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you, and you shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

10 and then shall many be offended and shall betray one another and shall hate one another. We as Christians have to be willing to give up all for Him, he gave all for us...That is a process of giving up things as His Holy Spirit speaks to us to give up certain things. It is a daily denying ourselves what we want, feel, think. Then if called to make the ultimate sacrifice for Jesus we will be willing....Just some thoughts to ponder and take to God... lol

You're right Lauren, believers don't have to worry. Have you heard of the rapture? If not, than you should research the subject, your worries will leave you once you learn about this great event, which can happen at any time before the seven years of Jacob's trouble.

First of all, those who are not of the age of accountability (younger than 12) will be with the Lord during those seven years, along with all believers in Christ.

Lauren 4 years ago

I know i need not be worried; but with all this talk of one world government, all i can think of is my baby. During these seven years, will I be fighting everyday in honor of Christ? What if they take my baby and make him get the mark of the beast? What do I do to make sure this does not happen in case they kill me before they take my child. I am scared and know I need not be but it's hard. I must give my concerns and anguish to God.

Amen Pradeep Boiragee, Christ can rapture christian believers at any moment, praise God. But for those who remain in unbelief, it's time to wake up and take note of the signs.

I realize that there is nothing that I can do or say to make someone believe, it's the Lord who calls one to salvation.

Pradeep Boiragee 4 years ago

When we have already accepted Jesus Christ as our personal savior, we need not be terrified by the sighns of the last days, rather we should look up to heaven, and await the second coming of Lord Jesus Christ.

I am actually doing an article on End Times Living in the Last Days and I came across this article. WOW.....its amazing!

Often, it comes as a shock to new believers that the Christian life is a battleground, not a playground.

If you're going to win the battle you must know the enemy. This means that you have to possess the power and equipment (Holy Spirit or spiritual armor) to protect yourself from Satan's attacks (Ephesians 6:10-18), lest you fall prey to the lion who roams the earth searching for those he can devour.

Christians are not fighting for victory but from victory because, Jesus Christ has already defeated Satan.

Thanks for the comments,

Great site! I can't wait for the Rapture. As you all know the world we live in is very evil. Nobody is trustworthy and material belongings mean more than human life. Jesus is Lord and we will meet him soon.

The ones taken first from the field are taken by the antichrist. True belivers are left sowing in the fields awaiting Christ's return. Remember the anti (anti means instead of) Christ comes first.

I am really and truly sick of those who look for whatever excuse they can to deny the fact that God exists and he is real. This tops the cake with their asinine thinking of how the Shroud of Turin is fake because they were able to make a mockery [replica] of it. I hope that Italian scientist enjoys his 15 minutes of fame and the money he was paid to utter horrible blasphemies. I would not even be a bit surprised if he's one of the scientists involved in making a body/clone for the Antichrist.

I encourage anyone who has ears to hear and eyes to see with to get a copy of the book called "Antichrist: The Cloned Image of Jesus Christ" by Joye Jeffries Pugh. The book discusses the Shroud of Turin and the coming Cloned Antichrist. The greatest deception that the world has ever seen is coming.

During the Tribulation period (7 years) more people will come to believe in Jesus Christ and be saved then have in the passed 2,000 years. During this period it will be evident that supernatural powers are at work. It won't be too late to come to Christ as long as you do it before death catches up with you.

When Christ comes to take his church, two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left behind. Two women will be grinding with a handmill; one will be taken and the other left behind (Matthew 24:40).

There will be no mistake about it, millions of people will simply disappear. There will be cars rolling down the road without drivers, planes will be airborne without pilots. Just imagine the headlines in the newspapers, millions of people disappearing in the wink of an eye.

Actually, there will be many small catastrophes that happen all at once.

Of course when this does happen, all believers will be gone. Those who are left behind won't believe in what actually happened. They'll look to the scientists for an explanation.

Well, that other hubber replied as follows: "But from the time that the Hebrew Nation ceased to exist is when the times of the Gentiles began. The Gentiles trample Jerusalem under foot for 42 months during the times of the Gentiles.

When the nation was reestablished the times of the Gentiles was over."

He's under the impression Jesus already returned and took His church and we're just waiting for the battle of Har-Magedon. Sounds ridiculous to me. Nobody recorded the return of Jesus and millions of MIA's? Hmmmm.

This is the most accurate hub I've seen on end-time prophecy. I am with you 100%. What you said about the fig tree and "this generation" is amazing and I will share that with a brother in the Lord that has taken this to mean Christ returned within the generation He spoke this to his disciples. Praise God ~ this gives me so much hope, that we'll be with our Lord soon and won't have to suffer much longer in this world as it is...God bless you!

We are on the brink of the most astounding breakthrough in the history of mankind. We are just months away from awareness of a spiritual connectedness that will usher in an era of peace and enlightenment. It goes by many names, but the storms are coming, and the little rivulets of living waters are collecting in the valleys and plains of our mutual inner landscape. Like some cosmic tractor beam, we are irresistibly drawn to the light.

You can see it in the resurgence of fundamentalist Christianity, in the evangelical movement, even as it breaks away from its hijacking by political opportunists. The movement is operating in New Age circles, in the Wicca movement, in the return to Native American traditions, and most of all in the oneness of mind being nurtured by the technology: the Internet, instant messaging, television, and global communications. There are all manner of study groups for modern revelations – from books like the Conversations With God series, The Urantia Book, and A Course in Miracles, to name a few. All these recent spiritual revelations are centers of light. And the lights are growing and merging into one brilliant family, recognizing the Fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man.

Yes, there are rumors of Armageddon, and whispers of the end of the world in 2012, but what need is there to worry when we know we walk with God? What matters it if empires collapse and structures implode, when we recognize our reality in spirit and the eternal life promised by the Son of God?

Some of us are lucky enough to know a love in life where we have a mind meld with our partner. We finish each others sentences and we share a bond that fosters telepathic communication. It’s not reading the other person’s mind, but rather an awareness of one mind. Now imagine that kind of love between all the awakened souls on the planet. Global warming, poverty, and war will be banished in a matter of days. Our connectedness and awareness of spiritual realities will build a new society constituting the Second Coming of Christ.
