Adam and Eve, the first human beings to be created by God were placed in the Garden of Eden. Everything they wanted was there: plenty of food, water and the ease relationship they had with the animals including the wild ones. Even they had a close relationship with God. They would know God had come to pay them a visit when they felt His presence.

Despite all these, they failed the test. They rebelled against God. They disobeyed Him. This resulted to them chased from the Garden of Eden. As a result of their sins, a lot of consequences were felt: diseases, toil, pain, suffering, hatred, jealousy, anger, murder, rape, abuse and everything the world faces today which is negative. They ate the fruit of the tree God had forbidden them not to eat.

However, they were not the only beings to have rebelled against God. Devil, also known as Lucifer or Satan became the first created being to rebel against God. He eyed the throne of God, his lust driving him to want to overthrow God. He convinced a multitude of angels but what Satan forgot (or didn't know) is that God is above everything we can ever imagine. He knows everything including a person's heart and his/her motives. This resulted to Satan and his followers banished from the presence of God - Heav

Levels of Sin

In humanly terms, there are different degrees of sin: some sins are minor, others a little bit worse while there those which are regarded as the worst of all sins. They are unimaginable, hard to contemplate. These grave sins include rape, murder, sexual abuse, human trafficking to name but a few.

Despite this fact, in God's eyes sin is a sin. There is no small nor big one. He regards all of them as the same. In the world of humans, every sin has its sentence and the motive for committing that sin if it arrived at the desk of the judge. However, to God sin is a sin and the sentence for committing sin is eternal banishment from the presence of God - everlasting death (Hell).

This is the reason why the Bible says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

The Good News is, "For God so loved the world that He gave His begotten Son that whatsoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

This is Good News from the consequences of committing sin, "For the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23) "but the gift if God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

What is Sin

There are a lot of definitions and explanation of what sin is. At the same time, there is a lot of misunderstanding, misconceptions and disagreements of what is sin and what is not sin, that is, what sin is all about.

The fact is sin can be said to miss a mark. For example, Adam and Eve missed the mark, they failed to attain the standard set By God of trustworthiness and obedience by not eating the forbidden fruit.

Sin can also be said to disobey the laws set. Another is when a person does what is wrong knowing very well what He is doing is not right, instead of doing what is right he does what is wrong knowing too well it is not the right to do even his consciousness proving it is the case.

"So, whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin." (James 4:17)

"Now, the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I did warn you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God."

"The desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death." (James 1:15)

Pride (7 Deadly Sins)

The Seven Deadly Sins

Despite the fact sin is sin, mo minor nor major ones in the eyes of God, there are seven sins which are regarded as deadly. What might be the reason?

In the book of Proverbs 6:16-19, it lists the seven deadly sins the Lord hates. Seven deadly sins He loathes.

"For there are six things the Lord hates - no seven: haughtiness, lying, murdering, plotting evil, eagerness to do wrong, a false witness, sowing discord among brothers." (TLB version)

In another version it reads, "There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers."

If these sins are deadly in the sight of God, then it implies God is warning us what results when we commit these sins. When one of these sins is committed, it carries with it other sins of which the consequences are grave.

A Look at the World's Deadly Sin

a) Haughtiness

According to website dictionary, haughtiness is defined as "the appearance or quality of being arrogantly superior and disdainful."

According to Vocabulary.com, "Someone who is haughty is arrogant and full of pride. When you're haughty, you have a big attitude and act like you're better than other people."

It is further stated, "A haughty person acts superior and looks down others. Haughty people are disdainful, overbearing, prideful, swaggering and obnoxious. Acting amazed that others haven't heard of a hot new brand is haughty. The word even sounds a little like its meaning: it's hard to say haughty without sounding like you have an attitude. If you're acting like others are beneath you, you're being haughty."

Lucifer, was once a heavenly angel, an archangel. The leader of heavenly angels. Great in music (singing). However, due to pride which he harbored by thinking he deserved that throne and not God, and he would rule in a justifiable manner saw him thrown out of heaven.

Adam and Eve knew too well they were warned against eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge. It was pride by reassuring themselves they knew too well that led to disobey God. They figured God was hiding something from them.

Pride is the source of all evil. When a person thinks of himself, treats himself as better than others, knows better than others and everything about him/her is better than others, then it leads to grave consequences including murder. The reason it's listed as number one deadly sin.

The mother of all sins, pride never helps as it soughts after itself, praising itself, deeming itself better than others, wanting everything for itself, thinking it deserves better than others. It is pride that has led to many downfalls, shame and hatred.

The Bible says that pride makes a nation to fall, including in the case of an individual. And falling will one fall in shame and dishonor.

We are all equal and we need to treat each other equally deeming each other as equal. However, when one crosses the boundary to feel he/she is higher than the rest, then it is a sign of pride.

It doesn't take a lot of searching to know the negative results of pride that is too serving.

Scripture Verses on Pride

You have been deceived by the fear you inspire in others and by your own pride. You live in a rock fortress and control the mountain heights. But even if you make your nest among the peaks with the eagles, I will bring you crashing down,” says the Lord. (Jjeremiah 49:16)

Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much. (I Corithians 8:2)

But when his heart and mind were puffed up with arrogance, he was brought down from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. (Daniel 5:20)

Human pride will be brought down, and human arrogance will be humbled. Only the Lord will be exalted on that day of judgment. For the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has a day of reckoning.
He will punish the proud and mighty and bring down everything that is exalted. (Isaiah 2:11-12)

He humbles the proud and brings down the arrogant city. He brings it down to the dust. (Isaiah 26:5)

You are right, my friend, sin is "missing the mark." In fact, it is an archer's term if you look up the word in the Bible lexicon. You will see as an archer aims at a shot simply too far away (such as the moon or sun) no matter how good his aim, how strong his arm, how much quality in the bow, that archer will not be able to reach it. No matter how sincere he is in trying or what motive he uses good or bad, he will never be able to achieve that goal in his own strength. God must be the one to come to him and not he working his good to reach God. Man is simply too depraved. In his best man's good works are "as filthy rags." I voted up and useful and interesting. Good doctrinal study. Loved it. Bob.
