it's kind of a pole of sorts.

    a) i hate God with a passion
    b) i am not sure if there is a God
    c) i do not hate God, i just do not believe
    d) i hate what some people do in His name
    e) i love God and hate what some do in His name

the results of your efforts will be posted when the thread is over big_smile

I would be a D, for I am certain God would be offended with some of the things done in his name ... sad

The only reason I did not pick E is I think that should be reserved (in my opinion) for someone who feels they have a close bond to God.

I believe in God the father almighty, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son Our Lord.  He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.  He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.  And on the third day He arose again.  He ascended into heaven and is seated on the right hand of the Father and He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the resurrection of the body, the forgiveness of sins, and in life everlasting.

I am an E.  I have always loved God, but never in a 'in your face, you have to believe blah, blah, blah...' kind of way.  For some reason or other it has just always been there.  I get a lump in my throat when I hear the song 'I can only Imagine', and I tear up when I hear a prayer.  I have always wondered where that sensibility came from because I'm never quick to cry.  My only answer?  It's from Him.  Just what I think.

I personally do not care what others believe each to there own with respect to each other. Because I believe does not make me a bad person and because someone who does not believe does not make them a bad person. I believe each to there own and that is what makes the world go round. all i am saying is that if you are 100% full of love, you can hate evil.
i found this on line, it says it pretty well.

Usage: Hate is the generic word, and implies that one is inflamed with extreme dislike. We abhor what is deeply repugnant to our sensibilities or feelings. We detest what contradicts so utterly our principles and moral sentiments that we feel bound to lift up our voice against it. What we abominate does equal violence to our moral sentiments. What we loathe is offensive to our own nature, and excites unmingled disgust.

so again, i am not saying hate the person, we are to love them, and yet abhor what they are DOING is all. the 2 can be separate but it is not easy to learn this practice. big_smile

to hate that which is evil and to cling to what is good. smile
and yet, to love all people at all times.
our problem is that we start to hate the actual person and get all bitter.

"But what is your definition of harm? Is there big harm and little harm? Is there teeny tiny harm or humongous harm? What is your definition of good? Is there big goods or little goods? I'm honestly looking for your answer?"

my answer is: harm is usually permanent and hurt is not.
    # injury: any physical damage to the body caused by violence
    # damage: the occurrence of any change for the worse
    # cause or do harm to another mentally esp. a child who you can do that to.
    # damage: the act of damaging something or someone

anything good is the exact opposite of anything evil.
i do not measure these 2, rather, i just discern them.

i separate my emotions and feelings and love them anyhow. i do not take it personally. i cannot stand to do as they do so i refuse to stoop and i still treat them with love and respect and that is what tosses coals of fire on their heads. they cannot figure out why i treat them with love if they are doing me evil.

if you hate people, any people at all, then that is your business. i do not hate people who do not believe in God or whatever else i believe in. i treat them as i would be treated. if i am sharing something with someone and they refuse what i share, so be it. i do not force feed my kids either, if they do not like what is for dinner, then they can leave it.

you say "you do not love me, show me if you do"

Because God loves, He also hates. There can be no love unless there is the antithesis of love, which is hate. Those two emotions are inseparable. For example, if you love someone, you hate whatever it is that would harm that person. If you're a parent, you hate anything that would harm your children. If you're married, you hate anything that would defile or injure your spouse. If you love good, then you hate evil. If you love God, you hate Satan. If you love unity, you hate discord.

Proverbs 6:17-19 lists seven things that God hates. In a Hebrew idiom used for emphasis, Solomon said,
"These six things doth the LORD hate; yea, seven are an abomination unto him:"

    17 haughty eyes,
          a lying tongue,
          hands that kill the innocent,
18 a heart that plots evil,
feet that race to do wrong,
19 a false witness who pours out lies,
a person who sows discord in a family.

Proverbs 8:13 "All who fear the LORD will hate evil. That is why I hate pride, arrogance, corruption, and perverted speech."

Revelation 2:4 Jesus is talking here:
"But this is in your favor: You hate the evil deeds of the Nicolaitans, just as I do."

Rev 2:15 "Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate."

these are the things He hates, i do not take issue with Him over it.big_smile

You can walk through the park and ignore the air that you breath, but it's still there and it still gives you life.

If God is everything, then that includes the air that you breath, thus one could never truly walk away from God and survive.

Of course, we don't credit the air for our own survival, nor do we mention that we breath it in, but even if we were to chose not to believe in it ... air would still continue to serve its great purpose. smile

    1. yoshi97 profile image87
yoshi97posted 7 years ago in reply to this

Well ... if we think along the lines that God is just a word for everything around us (like universe) then in that sense he (or it) does exist. Remember, we can consider things in different terms and still arrive at the same conclusion.

The spiritualist looks at the stars and sees a cosmos created personally for him by the creator, whereas the scientists sees far off suns created by the coalescing of cosmic gases.

      Who's right? Who's wrong?

What a person believes does not upset the final outcome, which is why I think everyone should decide for themselves what they want to believe in. Sometimes belief is as much perception as it is truth, as many who believe would say that air is proof of God, as it is something God created.

Regardless of which path one might follow, I still believe goodness is at the core of what's important ... and one's belief or disbelief in a deity (as I learned in our religious experiment) has no direct bearing on how much good a person is capable of. smile

Regarding the dichotomy between the spiritual person believing that the stars were created for him or her personally and the atheist seeing them as nothing more than giant gas balls, I find that patently false. There are lots of religious/spiritual people who believe God created the universe, who don't have the hubris to assume that it was all created for them personally. I look at the stars and am in awe not because I entertain the idea that the stars were made for me, but because of how small I am, as a part of the same creation, relative to the rest of the universe.

I HATE God every fiber of my being. I don't understand how the thumpers - Christians or the Bumpers - Muslims have the nerve to even voice a belief in the benevolence of God. If he indeed created everything he is sadist. Look at the evolution of bacteria and viruses to make them more deadly with every generation. Look at cancer, cerebral palsy, MS, Cystic Fibrosis, Down Syndrome, and on and on. I suppose if we chose not to treat them and just let people suffer and die, then their would be no viral or bacterial resistance. Then we world be like God. Years ago I read a story in a book, GIANTS UNLEASHED, about a scientist who created life in a laboratory. He decided to emulate God and placed hardships and disease on his tiny creatures to stimulate evolution. He didn't love them or hate them. They just a tool to prove his theories as he tormented them and occasionally answered their cries.
How is God different from that Scientist? There are only a couple of rational beliefs in the face of the evidence. Each one leaves only one response. Yes, I hate God.

I don't think Christians or Muslims believe in evolution the way scientists believe in evolution? I am not even sure Evolutionists attribute the evolving process to God? The book you are referring to is a compilation of fictional stories I thought?

That aside, so you think mankind are tools for God to prove what theories?
