How a conservative can be liked by almost everyone---

    This works---

Always be non-specific and ride the middle ground on your values.  Yes, I mean compromise your values if you want everyone to like you.

Never speak against the things that are just plain wrong.

Give everyone the "I'm Okay, you're Okay" speil anytime someone really needs moral advice.

And above all, never mention that The Higher Power has rules of conduct that are the same as society's general rules of conduct.

Psst---yes, I mean, NEVER mention ...(gulp).... God!   Nor the Bible either!
And if you mess up and DO mention Him,  make real sure you label Him as the namby-pamby god who says "I'm Okay, you're Okay, do whatever you wanna do!"

What is SO friggin' hard to understand about YOU being in charge of YOUR actions/thoughts and YOUR actions/thoughts ONLY?

You (and EVERYONE ELSE) are NOTHING, NOBODY...minuscule parasites crawling on the face of a marble floating in infinity. Your opinions, thoughts, and judgments about other people and their behaviors are worthless except to your own little life. The Bible makes it clear that you need not worry your pretty little head about what other people are doing:

Judge not lest ye be judged...

Remove the BEAM from your own eye before removing the mote from your brother's...

Vengeance is MINE saith the Lord...

      it goes on and on.

When are you going to get the fact that your morals apply to YOU. In the words of Betty Boop: Just YOU, and nobody else but YOU.

You get to behave in accordance with YOUR morals, but you DO NOT get to force them on anyone else. It's really a pretty simple concept, and it never ceases to amaze me when people can't grasp it.

        You're very rude.
I think it's against the rules of "anywhere at all" to call someone a parasite and "nothing".

If HubPages doesn't handle that one properly, then I know for sure they're bypassing their rules on personal attacks.

          You ain't Pollyanna.

You need to learn to read and comprehend (not just my posts either). We're all in the same boat on being parasites. But frankly, if you're so childish as to go running to MommyHP over a misunderstood bit of words on a screen...then I'm looking forward to seeing what they have to say. smile

Glass spider did not insult you by saying that everyone and their concerns are miniscule as parasites compared to the universe. That was definately not a personal attack. That was just a truthful statement on humans place in the universe.

You should be ashamed of yourself for flagging them.

And...so...you think there are behaviors that are shameful?

Why don't you think sodomy and trying to legalize sodomy and teach it to young innocent kids is shameful?

            Very confusing.

Sodomy (anal sex, whether between a man and a man, or a man and a woman) is legal, are you saying laws should be passed that make sodomy illegal? What should the government do to people who sodomize? Why should sodomy be illegal just because you think so? Why shouldnt laws be reinstated that would prevent you as a woman, from voting, working, owning property, being free?

Glass spider was just exercising her freedom of speech too. There are behaviors that are shameful. Being born homosexual is not one of them. You can't control how you are born or, if you swing that way, created by God.

I can't understand why you think being homosexual is a sin. Why would God even create you with a sin?

How are today's children being taught sodomy?

You are clearly "very confused." Private homosexual acts were declared legal many years ago. People are born homosexual, not taught. Nobody that I'm aware of is "trying to teach children to be homosexual." Some progressive districts are teaching children to be tolerant of homosexuals, however. Why would you oppose this? Is this what you believe?

          umm...

Biblically, a "brother" or "sister" is another child of God, a Christian, a Believer that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.

It's useless to debate Biblical principles, if that's what you were trying to do by "preaching" to me, with someone if you're not even a Believer.

It is a question of Tact versus Tout, not a question of who is right and who is wrong.

Ask a preacher and he will tell you. “You can catch more bees with honey,”

cliché’ I know but the point is, when you alienate your (audience with fire and brimstone) speeches, the audience tends to take you at your manner not your words.

God does not require a fiery sword to get his message across. He had Christ for that. We must follow his example and treat people with compassion and understanding. Listen, consider, and politely disagree.

The trouble is Brenda, that some of the things that you regard as 'plain wrong' are not regarded as wrong or sinful by other groups of people.  You do not hold the trump card, and your views and beliefs are not automatically the correct ones or the best ones.  If I do not agree with something you believe in, that does not mean that I should give away my beliefs, because you think that yours are better and have a divine seal of approval.

Another shocker - someone could be a conservative and an atheist! The two do not neccessarily go together

              They don't have to!

But they will hear it from me when they try to change the laws and social atmosphere of the country I've lived in for over 50 years, and where innocent school children are held "hostage, basically" at the whim of liberal teachers and other influences in the media and social settings where they're becoming afraid to speak their good moral values in public.

In the liberal agenda's quest for what they call "social justice", they're breeding intolerance for good morals amongst impressionable youths in this nation,  and I for one do not take that lying down.  Nor standing up.  Nor any ol' way.

I am insulted by that. I do not practice religion but I have very high morals. Some of those morals include not judging others by how they lead their lives. You can be as religious as you want just don't force it on me and tell me I don't have strong morals just because they are different than yours.

As Stephen Colbert has said "truth has a well-known liberal bias"

Come on, common courtesy and decency doesn't squelch your freedom of speech let alone someone who has different ideas on what it is to be moral roll

You say what you want when you want because your right and the obvious chosen mouth piece of God himself and if anyone disagrees with you let them be warned its best to stay quiet or else be called immoral. I have yet to see you show even a modicum of respect for others with differing beliefs from you unlike other conservatives here who take the lessons of love far enough to actually show it from time to time. I suspect you are the sort who prefers to preach the word of god instead of living by it.

      I have "acceptance"

The current liberal agenda is trying to force it down the throats of American citizens.

If you want to accept that, then that's your choice.
I do not and will not.
I speak out against it wherever I get the chance, via petitions and just general conversation.
The flow of rhetoric from the liberal agenda (emanating of late from The White House) is a horrible thing that, if catered to, will lead this nation down to a decline we cannot pull back up from.
I think it was a German commentator months ago who said he could tell from America's moral decline that the rest of America's standing will decline.   I agree.

Yeh, because America's decline in standing has to do with wearing condoms and allowing Gay Pride parades, and nothing to do with invading Iraq (for example).

Is this the same Colbert that called Sarah Palin " A f--kin' retard " ?...Great moral source....

Maybe you should have used Spock saying " "I object to Intellect without discipline. I object to power without constructive purpose." I would much rather heed the words of a Vulcan than a superannuated pedagogue...Larry

I think the point should be generalized: NOTHING on mainstream television is worth spit when it comes to intellectual rigour or thought of any depth... this goes for Colbert, it certainly goes for Fox, and it goes for ABC, NBC and CNN News agencies also.

Palin is a retard but. Seriously she is retarded. Tolerance means we allow others, like Brenda, to believe whatever they want no matter how bigoted. However this also applys to everyone else including gays. Everyone has rights not just conservative Christ stains. So my question is what do you do about tolerating people who do not believe in tolerance?
