According to Pope Benedict XVI today, abortion and same-sex marriage are some of the most "insidious and dangerous" threats facing the world today.

    Thoughts anyone?

Ridiculous.  Would seem he's just trying to draw attention away from all the insidious and dangerous corruption/abuse within the Catholic church.

What are his thoughts on same-sex abuse by priests?  I guess from his point of view, they are OK because they stand so little chance of leading to an abortion.

Agreed. Would like him to rank these in order of insidiousness:
      1. abortion
      2. gay marriage
      3. child abuse by you-know-who

Gee...I thought it was the crumbling economy, rampant disease, and unrelieved violence across the entire world...not to mention the threat of nuclear destruction.

      But....what do I know...I'm certainly no pope (although I played a female one onstage...hehehe).

Sexuality seems to be the new global pandemic.
Both items on that agenda are sexually based. Not surprising, since a large portion of the world is motivated or otherwise stimulated pro/con by sexuality -from child dance routines to scantly clad post-op male/female models holding icy cold bottles of beer...

      what a planet.

With everything going on...it seems difficult to place these two problems at the top. I'd say the oil spill in the gulf to those in the south, the volcano in iceland to people in that area. Tornado's in the mid-west. The economy.

The eruption of the volcano in Iceland is God's way of punishing us for homosexuals and abortion. People, get down on your knees and repent. (This post is for satirical purposes only)

Of course, things like constant wars and scaling drug abuse is of little concern to the pope. "Who cares about nuclear warfare when there are dudes DOING IT with each other!!!"

Maybe I did speak out of line. Sorry about that.

It's just that I think he should stress more on subjects that have an impact regardless of belief. The catholic church is firm on abortion issues, but I disagree that this particular problem poses a threat to society, let alone homosexuality.

Living in times where our environment is being damaged beyond repair, and when there are weapons powerful enough to erase entire nations, it looks bad to me to speak so fervently on issues that aren't as important.

As someone who strives to "rile people up" I was wondering if this topic might do it. Good to see everyone has such a great sense of humor (it's critical when dealing with almost everything in life - in my opinion)

Do I think the Pope is putting homosexuals at the top of his "Hated it" list because the next statement that's coming out of him is about all homosexuals being pedophiles and them finding their way into his church to soil children in the rectory, you bet. Here's the deal, how about criminals or those who participate in criminal acts like the Pope? He assisted in shifting pedophile priests around in order to avoid scandal for the church and himself.

What would Jesus do? I think he'd fire the Pope and the rest of the religious leaders who make buckets of money as his agent and find a good Jewish gay to represent him instead!

    1. Dense profile image60
Denseposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I am pretty sure that Jesus can't  fire the Pope. It's not his organization. He wasn't a founder of the Church and never asked anyone to go there to one to find God! Just my 2 cents. smile

If ya've studied the evolution of catholicism, the purpose of all 21 ecumenical councils (from about 500 ad to about 1500 ad) was to insure the viability of the church. The history of popes has been disgustingly "evil."
The pope is the best "crook" the "corporation" can produce.   lolol :-)

It's pretty obvious that he's right.  Both abortion and homosexuality will have an effect on the number of new little catholics.  Fewer little catholics will have a negative effect on the world.  In addition, homosexuality produces pedophiles, which eventually reduces the number of priests to preach against homosexuality.  All quite simple, really!

bad parenting produces pedophiles. homosexuals did not choose to be homosexuals, they just embraced what the already are.
